  • A 150cc Dilemma!! Now solved by pulsar 220 S

    Hello All,

Hope you guys having fun with your rides and gears.

I have a dilemma which I hope members here would help me out.

I am looking for a 150cc bike to replace Splendor. The new bike would be used by my brother most of the time and once in a while by our father.

Here is what i am looking in bike

Good ride quality, Good performance in city, Fuel Efficient, Problem-free for 5-7 yrs atleast, Easy to ride in city.

Here are some options i have considered:

Pulsar 150 dtsi, Suzuki GS 150 R, Unicorn, FZ, Hunk.

Don't like cbz xtreme, dropped rtr 160 as we all are 6 foot plus. Any other bike that i missed? Any new bikes to be launched soon that i should wait?

Budget is not yet certain, but need to have a good VFM. So please don't suggest R15 or something expensive. I am looking to test drive some bikes, but which ones? i need your suggestions.

I would really appreciate members opinion here. Need to narrow it down to 3 to finalize.

    P.S: Have a 2003 p150 dtsi, will be sold in Dec 2010.

    Sorry for long post.

though i am new to the forum but ofcourse not to the bikes. how old is your brother? if he is a college student he would go for a stylish bike, below is what I suggest

Unicorn - a refined and smooth bike, fuel efficient and decent performer. very good for city commuting. cons - prone to aging and dont expext whooping performance
Hunk - same engine as unicorn but tweeked to some performace. Honda's reliability, stylish, decent FE.
SUZUKI GS - couldn't lend my hand on it. cant even see much on the road, so NO COMMENTS
YAMAHA FZ - a very stylish bike but power couldn't stand up to the looks. not good for your father.
Pulsar 150 dtsi - here comes the winner, got everything you need (more or less ) personally i dont like it for being available in abundance on the roads but it is worth being there and absolute value for money. one more thing we realise after buying bike is gear paddle, you can change gears using your ankle and toe without spoiling top of your shoe (most of us get facinated by sports looking gear paddle and end up ...##$%&@ )

want to say a lot more but let the experts take it up from here. THANKS

Guys, i need to make a shortlist of which to test. I have been off the market for 3 yrs so am not aware of recent developments in bike world.

From above views, i am putting Hunk, Unicorn dazzler into consideration. Any other bikes?

              How is GS150, P-150, FZ?

Some points to ponder which i forgot to add to my main post

Father prefers GS150, Bro prefers FZ, I prefer GS150/P-150/Unicorn/Hunk.

My brother is 30 years old. So he is not like performance hungry. But he strives for good efficiency, vibration free bike. He wants a balanced bike that doesn't burn a hole in pocket and keeps accountants happy.

Also we already have a 2003 p-150 dtsi. But it will be sold by Diwali. Its not that we don't prefer another p-150, experience is awesome with it, but we are ready to try some other bike too.

              Which one's your preference?

              Thanks

I'd say unicorn , My friend owns the first generation one(not alloys) ,he's had it for a couple of years now , completed about 20k kms on it , its still pretty sturdy , engine is also in good condition , i suggest that you go for this , it is also more comfortable than most other bikes due to the monoshok tec .

As @Ajey says, any day got for Pulsar. Since you have that it is better to have a UNICORN DAZZLER. Wonderful to look and performance wise. Even your dad will not have any problem in that.

We haven't considered 135 cc because it will be a bit punny for our load. Just think of it, a total of ~150 kgs on a 135cc bike. I shudder at that thought. 85% of time, there will be a pillon. So body weight will exceed 135 kgs most of the time.

I am gonna push my bro and father for Unicorn. Lets see how it goes. Will come to know tomorrow after test rides.

fz lacks power when u compare it with a 180 or 200cc+bikes.its a great torque machine,,,u can flip through traffic with ease with great braking capability,..and it can make all de above mentioned bike run for their money when it comes to real performance.

Go for GS. It has decent power & good FE, refined engine, very comfortable seating & is big enough for a 6 footer. Another reason being your father prefers it & its in your shorlist as well.
Im sure it will be cheaper to a Honda when it comes to spares or servicing. I personally trust Suzuki reliability than Honda. Hope this helps.

I think P150 is the choice.. even though you are ready to try other bikes.. most of them are not VFM. The fact that you have 2003 P150 and positive about the experience suggests that you maintain the bike very well. So, why not replace it with a more powerful and refined upgrade?? One more thing is that next upgrade is not far away for Pulsar series, considering that 4-valve p135 has hit bulls eye with the sales.. so it won't be a bad idea to wait for some more time (as you already have a bike) for the 4-valve lineup of Pulsar.
