A sailor by profession,(marine engineer to be precise) I grew up riding the Bajaj Chetaks, LML Vespas and Kinetic Hondas.
The first bike that I had for myself was quite later, a red Kinetic GF 170 Laser. Yep you read it right, I owned one of the biggest market duds of biking Industry in India. That said, the bike was real fun for the very limited amount of time I could enjoy it. Had killer looks for the time (yeah the fuel knob was a sore point for some), I remember people enquiring about the bike at signals, some even went to the extent of asking "Imported hain Kya?"
The joy however was short lived as maintaining the bike turned out to be a real pain, with the indifferent Kinetic service at first and then lack of spare parts. All those played a part in relegating my beloved bike to a permanent dust gatherer in my parking lot.
"I will restore this one day", I used to say to myself, but that was not to happen. Meanwhile we bought a Swift and I developed an instant liking towards things on four wheels. The restoration had to to take a backseat as I was reveling in the joy of my new found toy.
''Do you plan to do anything with the bike?'' My Dad used to ask.
"I will turn it back to its initial glory one day dad", I used to say.
But the day never came and once when I was off sailing, my Dad sold off or rather gifted it to one of peons in his office. I was sad, but life had to move on and so it did. The swift kept me happy, so much that I did nt really miss my red beast.
Things are taking a turn and has been quite some time since I was thinking of buying a bike which was nt really materializing. They say some times you need a push in life, for me my necessity seems to be the push. I m at this juncture where I need a second ride which at this point of time cant be one on four wheels. This might be the push that indeed takes me back to the roads to be a rider again.
I ve been out of touch with the biking world and would take some time to find my feet. What better place than Xbhp to start the quest of regaining the lost love. Looking forward to learn from the community and contribute too in my own ways.
Cheers
Ride safe.
