sorry for the delay in the response Jayamohan. Thankyou for your kind words. I have posted the Tips and suggestions in the Trivandrum thread and am doing the same in this thread just in case for future requirements.

I am glad that Trivandrum xBhpians are going to take up the road safety rally soon. I hope preparation is going well and fine. Anyway, in response to Jayamohan quote in the Road Safety Rally thread of Shillong the following are few of the inputs from my side which I believe would be helpful in the smooth implementation of the upcoming event.

      1. Firstly, get few of the xBhpians or members for the delegation of work which you will be coming across below.

      2. Find some sponsors for the event. You can approach the dealers of bikes, tyres, engine oils, etc for the expenditure which you will be requiring during the event. Likely areas of expenditure are for the Banners, flyers, refreshments etc.

      3. Make a small contribution each for the refreshments, banners etc if sponsors are not available.

      4. Plan out the route, venue of the event where all bikers could gather up for the flag-off and speech, venue for the refreshments where everybody can relax and have a get-together after the event. A field should be sufficient but depending on the expected number of participants.

      5. Chalk out the location where the flyers can be distributed by smaller groups. but keep in mind that the whole group should be split only after the rallying has been completed through all the route. Fro bigger impact its much better if all the riders rides together in single/double file holding the placards containing the slogans rather than to split the whole participants into smaller groups.

      6. Attain permission and support from the Traffic Department. Send a proposal to the Authority mentionind all the details of the event including the venue, schedule time, route, expected number of participants, etc and whether police escorts required. Its best to have traffic escorts for the smooth movement of the rally. You can invite Chief Guest from the Traffic Department itself who will take the honour of flagging-off the event. During our Shillong's event, we were honoured to have the DSP, Sir Herbert G. Lyngdoh as our chief guest who not only flag off the event but also led us from the start till the end of the rally. Sir H.G. Lyngdoh was a hard core, passionate biker himself during his youth and still rides his Eleminator.

      7. Get the Flyers design done. I am placing a sample image of the flyers which we have distributed during the Road Safety Awareness Campaign in Shillong Meghalaya. Flyers can also be written in English or your own local language, whichever suits best.

      8. Get printed one or two banners of size 4x6 inches. banners could contain logos of xBhp, sponsors etc.

      9. Invite your pillions: your girlfriend, wife, sister, friend or your friend because the more the merrier. But make sure to arrange a helmet each for the pillions. This was the mistake we made during our event in Shillong which I hope will not be repeated in other states. Pillions are helpful in holding the placards containing the Road Safety Slogans as well as in distribution of the Flyers.

      10. Rally in a speed of about 20-35kmph so that Motorists and pedestrians could read your slogans on your placards. Afterall, the main objective of the rally is to reach to the mass.

      11. Appoint each biker to make his/her own placard. Afterall its a team work! Well this is how its done with the least expenditure. All you need is:
      a. hard board or similar material of size greater than A3. Old Carton box, old Signboard boxes could be used.
      b. old Flex or venyl sheet where you could write your slogans with marker pen on the blank side of the sheet. This later can be fixed to the board. You can get the disposed venyl/flex sheets from the printing press, etc. If you are not expecting rain on the rally date, you can also used old wall-calendars sheets since the back of the calendars are usually blank and are white in colour.
      c. Road Safety Slogans can be easily downloaded from the internet. Just google it out and write in your own style. But do make sure thats its readable from a short distance
      d. Finally fix a bamboo/wood so that pillion could hold them during the rally. A lenth of about 3-4 feet bamboo should be sufficient enough for visibility and height.

      12. Invite other Biking groups if possible but be limited otherwise the "My Goup" attitude might just spoil the whole objective of the event.

      13. Press Release: Send a press release to the Press club so that the event may be covered by the electronic and print media. Afterall, its about the Awareness.

      14. If there are any left over flyers, hand it over to the various Bike showrooms so that the awareness continues even after the event is finished. You can request the dealers/manager to include the flyers with the Catalog/manual/receipt/ etc.

      15. And yeah! Lastly, Smile at the camera! Spread the message of Road Safety with a smile.

Now the sample of the flyers:

      Page 2 & 3 (inner pages)

Pardon me for the small images, tried converting the pdf file to image but didn't work out well. But should you require a better one, then p.m. me.

And ya, the "What is Biking all about?" portion has been taken from the thread "Defination of a Biker" posted by rennycornelius with some additions. The other objective we had in Shillong was not only promoting Road Safety but also educating young motorcyclist about the true passion of biking not in the form of hooliganism.

So, I do hope the above inputs will be of great help for any future Road Safety event. Good Luck Guys!

Ride safe....enjoy the event...and spread the good message!
