    • Went for a solo ride to near Madurai and back on Saturday, total 570kms. The intention of the ride was to know about the bikes ability on the highways. I have manged to clock a top speed of 148kmphr on the bike. I can surely say the bike has some more juice left in it. The reason i didn't pushed it too hard was coz of the heavy crosswinds. As we all know the wind blasts on NH7 is very high. Couple of times my rear wheel got whoobled due to the heavy crosswinds. A P135 in front of me was taken away by the wind, that guy somehow managed to keep the bike under control. I stopped for him if anything has caused him. As he was a native of that place he said don't try to push too hard as the wind will take you away.

      About the bike:
I am very much satisfied by the bikes performance as the bike revved freely upto 9K RPM without any difficulty. Redlined the bike in 5th gear(10.5K RPM) and clocked 137kmphr and shifted to 6th. The bike went upto 144kmphr smoothly and took lil time to reach 148. There was a truck infront of me and the heavy windblast made me to slow down. But i would say the bike has the potential to do 155kmphr which i think is the max.But one guy reported 158 here in xbhp, don't know whether its possible or not. I think is a very descent speed for a single cylinder bike.
The best thing i liked in the bike is the cruising ability i was doing 115-120kmphr most of the time and 120-125 without effort. after that you are on the race. The adrenaline rush after 130 was mind blowing. At these speeds the bike handled really well and got a fuel efficient around 34-36kmpl.

Saw a GXR1000 and FZ1 on the way back. But i was surprised to see these bikes was loaded in a "pettiauto". Two guys in a white BMW infront of the auto was the owners of the bikes. I followed them and they took a left turn at Nagercoil.

        • Hello brothers,
Myself and a fellow XBHPian are planning to visit Kerala for a period of 9 days. Just wanted to know your views on the climatic conditions there and would it be worth a visit. I know it rains like theres no tomorrow in the Gods land and I had planned for this ride in Dec, but next weekend I am getting a whole 9 days of leave by just bunking 1 day in office. So started planning for this dream ride.

          Regards,
          Deepan

Thanks a lot Varun for the words. We are planning to depart from Mumbai on 13 by around 1 or 2 am and reach Bangalore by dusk. And then come to Kumily the next day by dusk.

Below is an extract of a conversation with Mr. Steveburnside2001 from Chennai. He has suggested me the following route :-
from bangalore, head to salem, dindugal, theni, kambam, kumily and then Thekady - this should be around 450-500 kms and easily doable in 10hrs.
ensure you start early from bangalore to reach thekady as early as possible
reach thekady by 2 and take the boat ride there
the next day from Thekady head to a place called - Vandiperiyar, then Parindumpara
in prindumpara you have a lot of places to off road
from there head to a town called - Kutikanam
the road splits in 2 directions, head towards a place called, yelapara and then to the meadows in vagamon
head back to yalapara and then to a dam called anjurili
from there head to the town of idukki, 5 kms before the town you will see a small sign borad to your left stating calvary mount
head up this mountain, little bit of off roading and the views up here are breathtaking
from iduki town ypou can head to munnar via adimali
visit places in Munnar and spend a day here and then head towards aluwa and then to coachin and allepey
from allepey you can head up north tpo bekal in kasarkod and reach mangalore
from here head towards nh4 and you can go back home

Will try and add Kodaikanal also to the trip. We plan to reach Mumbai back by 21st night.

Any suggestions regarding the route or stay would be highly appreciated.

                Regards,

All the places you ve mensioned here is praveen mathew's territory !!! you cant get any better advice other than him. he stays near idukki and has lead so many xbhpians from far and wide around those places. i m sure steve must have said about him to you ! regarding all the routes and places, its better to ping him (xbhp id: praveen memala) .chk out cochin thread , you can see his posts. AFAIH its better to skip boating there as all who went there says its a boring 3 hour boating !!
wait till tmrw, you will get some more options from experienced tourers here who have visited those places.
while going back, dont miss out athirapalli falls at thrissur.

Thanks bro. Spares is the thing which is the most frustrated thing. A left clip-on handle bar is the only thing left to get, other parts are from different bikes.
