No Inder, not this weekend but in all probability (read if I have money in my hand) I will be riding out of Delhi in the coming few days. It would be a 5-6 day ride towards the Spiti valley. Let's see what I come up with.

P.S: Your avtaar picture speaks of what you have been doing in the weekend!

Looks good. I wish you all the best. As for money, petrol, cheap stay and maggi for breakfast lunch and dinner, all inclusive should not set you back by more than 4-5K for 5 odd days. You are gonna really like it. I suppose you will be touching Gramphoo sometime, either while going or while coming back. Which means truck loads of snow at R-Pass. This is looking good!

But the Rohtang route is closed. I will be riding through the Shimla - Narkanda - Rampur - Sangla - Chitkul route. I have about 4-5 days in hand. If I can make it ahead, I will, else I will have to ride back from Chitkul, although I sure hope to ride ahead.

@Shivanshu: Naah! It's just a 4-5 day's ride; no need to take rest for that ride, right now, really..

R-Pass opens up sometime now if the BRO has been at it. If you are planning to leave on Wednesday, it might happen. You can give a call to Sunny/Anurag to find out. This has been the hottest winter in 108 years and the hottest April since 1958. I doubt if the BRO would have had too much trouble clearing up the snow. Just call up HP Tourism or Manali to find out.

Edit; Maybe we should start a new thread on "Aryan's Spiti valley conquest preparation 2009"

Aryan, i would suggest that you wait for 1 more month. Rohtang La would be open for vehicular traffic by the 7th of this month hence in most probability kunzum would also be opened by May end.Opening of Kunzum would allow you go via shimla and return via Manali(including a visit to chandrataal) rather than re-tracing the same path.

                  • Although it is somewhat OT, but I would like to know, even if R-Pass is open, how far ahead would I be able to ride given the condition (snow, perhaps)? Any pointers on this would be great!
                    :)

                    • @Kurt: Riding back the same path would really be the most boring bit of the entire ride. I sure wanted to visit Chandertal (more than Leh/ Ladakh itself ), but I am not sure whether I would be free by May end. Hence, I want to ride as far as possible NOW, as I am free at this time.

                      • Rohtang pass should open around end of April and start of May.
But snow can fall anytime disrupting the traffic. It the pass is closed you wount be able to ride further. But i guess they clear the road pretty quickly as it is a major Army Link to Leh also

                            • It was my first ride with the Gang. I dragged one of my fren.... reached toll plaza bit early 6:30 am. I was happily surprised to see LP, Kunjal & MJ there. sunny turned up later, followed by GODS. I had never seen so many SBKs together so it was a sight for me.

We started for McD at 7:20 and guys started ripping upon reaching highway; we had to go through Mall Road.
We all were constantly maintaining 90+ with occassional jumps to 100 & more..... LP was the photographer on NH8. Frankly, I hardly do 90 on my bike but this time it hardly went below it. It took no time to reach McD, breakfast wasn't upto our expectations.... some technical jokes & we were ready for dhaba at 8:45 am. Then arrived GODS & so the departure was extended by good 15 min.

Return ride was slower & easier.... dhaba was again the right place for feasting. Chintoo Bhai, Shivanshu, Addy & others (sorry frens don't remember the names) were present.
I stayed only for lil time & left early. It was a good ride & looking for more.
My moment of the day was spotting my fav bike; DUCATI.
