As per articles on forums and blogs, the CBR 150R might look like its elder sibling but it is not based on the same chassis. It has a different chassis and suspension and is a track tool rather than a sports tourer like the 250R.
And with a peak torque of 12.56 Nm @8500 RPM, it will be a chore to ride in stop-go city traffic. For some perspective, the CB Unicorn has identical torque output (actually slightly more) but @ 5500RPM.

Also, the peak power is just 17.8 Ps@10500 RPM. This is not significantly more than the R15 V1 OR V2(17 Ps@8500 RPM) which makes peak power at significantly (2k) lower RPMs and 20% more peak torque at 1k lower RPM. (15Nm @7500 RPM).

I wonder who would buy one of these over the tried, tested, better and probably cheaper R15 v2.0 . Honda needs to come down to earth while pricing this or its no.s will be nowhere close to those of the R15.

Edit: All CBR150R specs are here:

    • Would that analysis change if I say that the CBR has a very flat torque band?

(It doesnt, but just saying) As far as who would buy is concerned, I would love to know who would buy the ZMR... :P

That is highly unlikely unless the bike sports a Turbocharged petrol engine.

And as for ZMR (minus the electrical insulation tape mod) it at least has a big cee cee advantage over the CBR150R which means that engine is far more relaxed than anything else reliable enough(you know what I mean ) to be considered for touring. And if Sachin Niar's statements have to be believed, it is supremely fuel efficient on the highways.

P.S.: I am not comparing their track usability here.

Guys .. I am unable to find the post for the 7th Jan lavasa cornering session now. I wanted to do it this time around as I missed the induction ride ... If anyone could post the extracts of it with some details that would be really helpful.

I was just making a statement, an inference based on an observation. You were arguing over something which is not true. Also.. Why can't new age powerful bikes be fuel efficient? If someone like VW is showcasing a 111kmpl (45 hp)car in the expo.. why is it so very unreasonable to demand 40kmpl from a high tech 17.8 Ps 150cc motorcycle when my crude/unrefined/archiac 21Ps 220cc Pulsar manages the same with ease? Heck Ford has showcased a 120Ps 200Nm 1 liter Petrol SUV which will most likely return 16-20kmpl depending on usage.

The point being the world has moved on from just fuel injection onto petrol direct injection, variable valve timing, and turbo-charging. Demanding low emissions and high FE is no longer the 'cheap' thing to do.

There is no 'leap' in power outputs. There is no next generation of engines being showcased with significantly higher power/lower emissions. Motorcycle industry, I am afraid, has stagnated. And I am not talking about the Indian scene.

OK.. I am mass market. I was definitely mass market back in july - august 2009. The only thing I looked at was BHP, Top Speed and FE (and Lighting and my bank balance ). This is how most people start off. The 'better' bikes only come when you graduate onto something more suited to your style. How would anyone know their own riding style when buying their first real (non 100cc commuter) bike?

With the amount of options in the market back in 2007, the best bike money could buy you south of 10lac was the 'Hummein hai Honda ka Karishma'!! If you wanted something better/faster, you bought a car. Times have changed since then. So has the customer attitude. How many people do you see on the street with R15s? What percentage of them are here on xBHP or any motorcycle forum? There are so many on the street means people understand their worth. If I look around in Pune, I can certainly find more R15s than ZMRs. That certainly shows a shift of trends.

just to elaborate dk's point, My younger brother does not know anything about what makes a bike. for him, a bike is just an intermediate tool for comuting and sometimes for show off. and thats why all that he wants is highest bhp, good looks, "not a high price tag" (which is 1.2 lacs for him, I bought a costly bike at 63000 rs :P ).

the bike that he is considering is the R-15!!
want the reason? powerfull (atleast on paper), looks like r-6 (i dont know how), fits in the amount that I will finance :P
little does he know that the bike does not have a flat torque curve and cannot take bad roads with as ease as say the zma but does that stop him from buying that bike? not at all..

most people just get a bike on its "flaunt value" rather than the utility...

heck, why should i talk about others? I did the same when i got the bike. I had planned for the unicorn, but got the Bunk instead just because i liked the looks (to hell with service, reliability, quality). :P
