Hello guys,
I am planning a solo ride to Karwar from Pune and return to Pune after 3-4 days in May. Has anyone done this route on bike? I am confused whether to take the dandeli route or the Goa route. There's another route which takes a turn at the start of Dandeli forest near Kumbarwada. Any kind of suggestion would be appreciated as this will be my first solo long-ride if I do it.

Go via goa. Avoid Karnataka interior roads as much as possible. At least the ones which are not NH. Rest you should be good to go. Do remember to fill a Tanker or 2 of petrol in Goa.

Edit: Karthik Pai was in goa practically a week back. He had gone via Kolhapur- Amboli and returned via NH17 totally. He should be the correct person to ask road conditions as of now.

Ok. Will ask Karthik also regarding the same. Hey antz I had some issue with the P220 engine stalling. Your thoughts on the same would be good. Have posted the issue in P220 thread.

Roads from Pune till dandeli are fantastic with little bit of bad patches post Khanapur in belgaum. But trust me, the roads from Dandeli to karwar are just pothole laden & not in good condition. BTW dandeli is fully dry now & until and unless you are wishing to do some activities out there(it costs a lot for activities) its really not worth a visit this season. . . Better take NH17 via tahmini . Even tahmini has got a makeover and there are little less bad patches now. But NH17 will definitely take the toll on fatigue if you are not much experienced in terms of curves . . My suggestion would be . .

Go via NH17 (Pune-->Tahmini (or) A stawberry shake at panchgani then to poladpur)-->NH17-->Chiplun-->Sawantwadi--> Goa-->Karwar

And while returning back . You can take any of the following roads.

Karwar-->Ankola-->Yellapur-->Hubli-->Belgaum-->Pune(Here you can plan to visit yana caves in sirsi & roads are in decent condition )

The above route would cost a bit extra in terms of kms but would be easily doable in one day if you leave early form karwar.

P.S I am stressing it again here that NH17 will take toll on fatigue due to the heat and the traffic , so until and unless you are an experienced tourer I do not recommend this route for doing solo. NH4 is boring but safe and sound for all the adventures

Rafting : 1300-1500 (depends on bargaining , 9.5 kms with no more than grade 2 or grade 3 rapids ! )
Safari : 500 per head + 200 for guide ( early morning safari)
Kayaking : 250 - 350

Why dont people just come down to a g2g and get it solved with all their doubts... Trust me Antz Pune is getting spoilt...

I tell you some members i know are scared of their ride being revved or being taken for a spin by other members... Samjha tu.

what i meant was since this is an exhaustive trip of yours, it would be better if you would come down to a g2g today (Since you are lucky to post it close to a g2g outing) and get it sorted out for route info and halts, Iam sure you are rider and understand that this is not a trip to the burger place you imagine at 12( I rather think never in your life)...

Btw whats holding you back from attending a one since 4 months??? good to know fellow members isnt it?? i dont think we would bombard you with water balloons... if thats on your mind.

Actually this has nothing to do with you. We discussed the exact same thing like 5 days back, but on some thread where it was deemed OT and was deleted by the mods (instead of creating another thread where this discussion would have been relevant and moving the posts there). So, the only place you can store it safely, apparently, is your own mind .
