The seat of the FZ is not meant for long riding.... I got my arse literally kicked on my recent tour of Konkan.. and I was going on a Unicorn! which is infinitely more comfortable than the seat of FZ.. thats y the amazementOriginally posted by trustvishwas View PostWhat is so unimaginable about riding a FZ on a 4 lane national highway ?
@Shrinath: dude.. i got caught up in office work.. left thr at 1030
coudldnt have made it tonight....
@Jiten: What other mod did u get done? :O.. also interested in knowing about the boots.. which make, how much etc...
@Rohit: dude.. huge red bold post? I hope its nothing serious... I'll pick up my dog tag from u next time we have a g2g.
And as far as Lavasa goes, I have always thought it was a lil dangerous and we all must play within our limits... You see.. all u have for a run-off area is the cliff.. I am always so subdued there ... but its better to err on the side of safety

Hey Rockrz, have you got a titanium breather pipe installed for your battery or you are riding some electric superbike disguised as a hunk? There is no way that a battery breather pipe will get stuck in rear wheel and make you fall.Originally posted by ROCKRZ View Postwho crashed???
if you mean me,I slipped but that was a very minor one... just side guard has minor scratches nothing more..
btw, regarding the crash, guys remember to inspect your bike properly before and ride... cos mine happened cos the breather pipe of the battery got stuck with the rear wheel and plus since i was in a corner at that time, i could not controll the bike with a jammed wheel. I initialy thought that i slipped cos my silencer rubbed the ground when i braked, but when i reached home and wanted to check the newly fitted battery, i found that pipe had sheared off and some was still stuck to the rear wheel near the air filling valve.
eitherways, ride safe and make sure that your ride is also safe.
Anyone who has seen what a breather pipe looks like, knows that it is not fixed on battery side; just press fitted and the other end is not tied to anything. The worst thing that can happen with it tangling with your rear wheel is the pipe will break but there is absolutely ZERO chance that it will make you fall.
Can you please recheck the reason behind your minor, not so serious crash.
I would be the first person to admit that seat of FZ is meant for city riding and is literally pain over long distance but on a long tour, your body including your backside gets used to riding for long distances so there is nothing amazing about covering Bangalore to Pune in a day. It is no where mentioned that they did it without any breaks.Originally posted by s_and_m View PostThe seat of the FZ is not meant for long riding.... Those guys rode for 7+ hours in heavy rains is amazing and I am not trying to shadow their amazement. I would in no way ride in heavy rains on NH4 for such a time. I would have found a nice cozy hotel and slept off.Never argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and then beat you with experience.

guys, i could not word my last post properly and hence I guess is some misunderstanding here.
I am not trying to defend myself or argue with anyone(and yes accept that I was riding very close to Vipin when we were riding to lavasa), but never did I intended to cross my line. I do understand that even the smallest of mistake can cascade to a huge one. But seriously, I never intended to show off.
I truly respect and appreciate what Tenhut, Rohit and what everyone else said that what I was doing cannot be justified just because I crashed because of some battery breather pipe. But guys seriously, I did not intend to write or do anything that would harm the reputation of xbhp. You guys have seen more crashes happen that me and so you know where exactly the limit of exuberance is and hence it’s the respect that I have for you people. And hence you have every right to bash me if I did something irresponsible. But believe me I never even thought of being irresponsible.
Let me put forward my part of the story since it will explain better what exactly the problem was.
When we started from chandni chowk, I was riding as the second member. First was Vipin on ninja, second was me on the hunk and third was phoenix flight on r15. I knew that I had to maintain this position because I could not lead and I did not know the way. That was exactly the reason why I could not be at the tail. I have got really lost a couple of times in my earlier solo rides (50 kms on the wrong way to be precise during my first solo lavasa exploration ride), so I know how much of trouble it would be to find a fellow rider , and hence I did not want to get lost in any way. Till the time we reached the first petrol pump when vipin and phoenix topped up fuel, I was at a minimum of 8 meters distance from vipin because I knew that technically and practically, he could brake better than me so I was in my limits of minimum of 8-15 meters. But when the climb started from the bypass to lavasa, I realized that the distance had increased to about 20 meters. And since I did not know the route to lavasa so I was shit scared to ride third because I did not have phone numbers of either of my riding buddies (mistake 1). Now when I saw that I would be third, I started speeding and at that time (reaction of the first mistake). When we crossed the first village (and when the real climb starts) there was a dense fog and then all I could see was a very faint tail light of vipin and no headlights of phoenix’s R15. Hence I got even more scared and started to ride close (mistake 2). I knew what I was doing was a quite dangerous but had no option, since 85 kg on my bike does not go well with the acceleration and hence I tended to brake later than I normally do. But to avoid getting to close, I had to ride diagonally opposite so that even if vipin braked suddenly, I could steer clear. this continued for about 10 mines till about 5-10 kms before the dam when I could not see phoenix’s headlights, and when I slowed for him to regroup, I lost the sight of vipin’s tail lights and so I stopped riding but after some time, I saw a faint light and knew that it was phoenix and so started speeding again. I wanted to tell him that “buddy, I don’t know the way” but did not because I thought he would simply laugh at my shit scared stupid looking face (mistake 3- not trusting your buddy). Now since he was in my tail, I started speeding again to so that he would not have to ride very slow. This is I feel I think he thought that I was being irresponsible. Now the fog was very little. I remember seeing him trying to come close but did not realize that he was trying to say something. Maybe he might have tried to say something to me at the dam but since I was more interested in not losing the sight of the ninja taillights, I did not pay attention him, I just kept checking that I could see a r15 headlight in my rear view mirror and continued riding. In the tight right handlers just after the dam, I really got very close to vipin’s ninja but never in the sense to cut across his lane. And finally when we reached the top and stopped at the breakfast, phoenix mentioned that I close I was riding but I did not answer him back because I knew I was riding very close at times, but guys, I knew what I was doing. I was extremely alert at that time for even a hint of braking from vipin,s ninja and I did this only till the fog was there otherwise I did maintain atleast 8 meters because I know that’s the braking distance for my bike plus my limits of reflexes.
I am not trying to say that I am right. Not even slightly. I know I did a mistake and I have pointed out in my part of the story. I may have seemed to be riding very close to vipin but believe me that was for a very short time when I did not have any option like FOG + GETTING LOST or 60 KMPH +CLIMB+ TIGHT LEFT HANDLER. I came close to vipin only when I did not have an option. I did not want to put anyone to trouble. Guys do forgive me for my ignorance, but as soon as i was told that i should not be crossing lanes (when we had the breakfast), after that i never crossed my lane .
For the advice from Phoenix, buddy, I am really sorry that I did not notice that you were trying to convey something near the dam but trust me buddy I did not mean to disrespect you. I know that riding skills cannot be gained in a day and I don’t intend to be the best either. It’s just that I try to improve with every ride I do. I assure everyone here that never again will this happen. Especially because I now know the route till lavasa and partly because I know it’s better to confess your fears rather than face them without any idea as to what they can make you face one day.
Now coming to the crash, as I said that it happened because of the batteries pipe but later roger told me that I was trying to take the stick to the line too seriously. So after the crash, I loosened up a bit and when I, roger and sharan went downhill to refuel and then returned again to the cornering heaven, I was sort of more in the groove. And I felt I was taking the corners better.
the battery breather pipe on the hunk is a bit long, it actually dangles a bit below the main stand, just 1/2 feet above the ground. the pipe is about 2.5 feet long. i had fitted a maintainance free battery on my bike and hence i did not need the pipe. but instead of throwing it away,i took a tie strap, and coupled it with the surrounding pipes.
what i presume might have happened is this pipe must have rubbed against the tyre and then must have been entangled with the alloy way before i cornered. and then somehow, it got stuck in the fine gap between the rear drum brake housing and the wheel causing it to jam. this is just a theory interpretting from the tangled pipe with the alloy. also, it was torn into long fibres along its length. so this is the only theory i can reason. maybe some of the fibres must have got tangled with the wheel. cant be very sure but one thing is sure that i did not brake when in the corner. but still the wheel jammed in an otherwise smooth corner. i wasnt even at high speeds at that corner either. my speed was about 45-50kmph. i had taken the same corner earlier thrice at 50.Last edited by ROCKRZ; 09-28-2010, 11:00 AM.Suffering from Parked Motorcycle Syndrome

@ Rockrz - What are you trying to defend?
Ever since the first meeting, senior riders have told you not to chase the guy ahead of you. What would have happened if those guys had gone ahead and you were unable to find lavasa? I believe that you have the ability to ask villagers road to lavasa and follow their directions.
The question is not primarily of reputation of xBhp or its riders. The question is about your life. If you want to throw it away, go ahead. I have seen a rider die (not a xBhp rider) because of a head on collision when he was just couple of feet on the right of his lane. He was 18 years old. Now go ahead and tell me that the hue and cry raised is not justified.
Till the time, I pointed out that your battery breather pipe could not have been the culprit of your fall, you chose not to disclose it and now you are saying that roger informed you that because you were sticking to your lane you fell down. Why you didn't disclose it earlier?
If you are falling down because you stuck to your lane, you should try reducing your speed or improving body positioning or whatever but not crossing lanes.
You most probably will find above statements extremely harsh but trust me they are necessary. Motorcycling as a hobby is extremely dangerous. Why not try and reduce the danger component?Last edited by trustvishwas; 09-28-2010, 11:06 AM.Never argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and then beat you with experience.

I feel this indecent again brings forth the problem of a rider getting carried away seeing the corners at Lavasa, even though he is not aware what type of corners are coming up and at what speed he will be able to take them. New riders have been cautioned time and again about the perils (there is no such thing as a small/minor crash) of riding at Lavasa.
@All new members- Please keep in mind that when going to Lavasa (or any other place for that matter), stop and regroup after short intervals. Keeps these unnecessary fears like getting lost, out of the equation.
P.S.- Always, and i mean NO MATTER WHAT, wear all protective gear. Its better to have a scratched up bike and torn jacket than having a scratched up knee or elbow. Lavasa is a place to learn and enjoy and its the only place we have. Lets not fcuk it up.
Peace.

battery breather pipe is plastic/rubber as per my knowledge. at d max it would have taken battery out of housing,. and broken plastic pipe can not stop bike's wheel spinning at 50 kmph. can u imagine 50 - 0 in 2-5 sec. ? and u say it was a minor crash its same as crashing into something if u r coming 50-0 in some sec. please accept if u were not riding properly this will only help u to improve and if u think ppl will laugh at you we wont we have had our crashes too but we learnt unless and untill you learn you will be giving excuses and false reasons for ur crashes and lead towards bigger mor disastrous ones... did every one was wearing gear?Originally posted by ROCKRZ View Post

@All: Guys, Give the guy a break. It was his first time and he erred. Don't try to scare him away. Even I had crashed on my 1st ever ride to Lavasa(& I was solo). I hope he is more careful next week. Where is that outlook calendar! I want to add my name too. Can somebody please teach me how to corner?Advice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

my comments in boldOriginally posted by trustvishwas View Post@ Rockrz - What are you trying to defend?

yes, sir, i do remember it now. And as i have been trying to put here that it was my mistake. I am not denying the fact that it was my mistake. I assure that this wont happen again. I thought it was better to speed things up rather than accept the fact, which is essentially the mistake I made.
The question is not primarily of reputation of xBhp or its riders. The question is about your life. If you want to throw it away, go ahead. i cannot agree with you any less. and as i have put in my last post, "what I was doing cannot be justified just because I crashed because of some battery breather pipe"
Till the time, I pointed out that your battery breather pipe could not have been the culprit of your fall, you chose not to disclose it and now you are saying that roger informed you that because you were sticking to your lane you fell down. Why you didn't disclose it earlier?
its again not what i wanted to convey. what roger was telling was about "me trying very hard to follow the distance between me and the white central strip on the road in general" .In the c3 corner, before slipping, I was under the impression that i slipped cos i leaned too much and i said it very frankly to everyone who asked me.
please note that i am not trying to conceal anything. i understand that concealing info now will mean that sometime later i will someday not understand what went wrong and that is exactly why most of us are here, i.e to understand what mistakes we are making and then try to improve upon them. please correct me if i am worng
If you are falling down because you stuck to your lane, you should try reducing your speed or improving body positioning or whatever but not crossing lanes.
+1, roger demonstrated this to me and then i tried first getting the lean part right. but this was after the crash that i realised that when roger noticed the way i was cornering and he asked me to get it right, put forward a demo and then I tried it again. its a different thing that i am a slow learner so it took me another 30mins of trying and a ride up and down the ghats to get it better.
You most probably will find above statements extremely harsh but trust me they are necessary. Motorcycling as a hobby is extremely dangerous. Why not try and reduce the danger component?
not at all, My respect for senior members will not fade without a reason, you can be assured of that
. I sincerely understand that you are trying to help me.
I was being stupid in my endeavour to not cause trouble,I took a series of stupid and idiotic decesions and ended up causing more trouble to others.
What I am trying to put forward here is that "This is the mistake I made and I will never want to repeat it again".

Seen in that image is someone who has never gone for a longish motorcycle ride ever before this ride. He was asked to just ape a select few members and he did well.
A first ride which he will never forget, crash free… shit loads of fun.
In the end it boils down to this
1) If you are going to lavasa for honing your skills, avoid taking noobs with you
2) If you are going to lavasa for having a good time, take noobs! Let them know when and where they err. Pull over, kick them in thier nuts if they refuse to learn (lol you wont get to do this too often!)
3) Don’t be ashamed ever even if you are not half as good as the rider ahead/behind!!!
Problems happen not when you are unskilled… problems happen when you are not willing..
@Antz: How to corner in 3 easy steps
1) Find a Corner
2) Put your chair and sit there
3) Stay put!
Lol I cant corner either
