Jokes apart,i called up the TVS factory today and asked them to connect to the customer care. I told him my situation and asked of the specification of the paint and the process of repainting. He said he was neither aware of the process nor the paint specs. I asked him to give me a solution for this as the dealer has rejected any paint jobs and a new silencer assembly costs 6k.
He said he had indeed got the alloys and silencer of his RTR powder coated with a matte finish paint and he did not exactly know any other terms used for this.He said the whole process took him 2-3 days, like you ve mentioned, for coating and curing and the exhaust alone costed around 750 bucks. He suggested me to take it to a good paint booth where they do painting for cars and they would know it.
So,ninja chacha and others please suggest a good place for getting this done and i am assuming they will be able to remove the existing paint.
I got the bosny from a hardware store in empire estate complex, chinchwad. There was no mention of it being a heat resistant paint and the color code was No.39-Black. Assuming you have an R15 from your profile pic,AFAIK it does not have a chrome exhaust ,correct me if i am wrong. And after this experience i do not think spray paints are the way to go for exhausts. In fact the paint on the front most part of the silencer (entry) has already started peeling off,I ve just noticed.
Guys anyone...??

Now the last thing left out is the place to get this done. Hey buddy,Originally posted by Revverend View PostGuys anyone...??
I had the same problem with my karizma,
I ordered a heat resistible paint (matt/flatt black) from probiker, Pune (M.G road beside ABN amro bank)
believe me, its worth the money,
My engine was steel colored, I painted the whole engine with it.. total black matt finish, just like showroom finish
take a look at my album

The best thing is that it stops rust - as it is printed on the can..
the paint stays as long as it is not rubbed rigorously with a cloth..
I'd suggest you to paint your exhaust with this paint over the glossy layer.. or scrap it with sandpaper and then paint it...
You are NOT What u ride.. you are HOW you ride...

Replies in BOLDOriginally posted by Revverend View Postimpressive indeed.
Thanks
How much does the can cost
The can costs around 280-290.
and did you paint the whole thing yourself.?
Yes i did it myself, in just bout half an hour
What make is it?
its Bosny
I have an extra sealed can with me, was meant for my friends apache, he never took it from me..
I'd be coming to pune on 21st
Incase you need 1, let me know.
and yes, it needs heat to be totally cured, so after applying the paint, you need to rev in mid range, for bout 2 minutes, just so the exhaust would heat up and dry the paint,..
bout the smoke from the paint, it just happens for 1-2 days max.

Thanks for the info. I have an R15, Have fitted an after market exhaust from Joel which is chrome. Did you sand paper your exhaust before painting or else it would peel off fast. My paint has no issues so far.Originally posted by Revverend View PostI got the bosny from a hardware store in empire estate complex, chinchwad. For a silencer, I don't think this would work.Originally posted by pronoy_banerjee View Postthe paint stays as long as it is not rubbed rigorously with a cloth..
Please finalise whether you wish to powercoat it or spray it. if you wish to get it powder coated, will try and find out addresses. There are several workshops doing it.Originally posted by Revverend View PostI ve already posted it there .not much help as of now.but the tvs customer care and ninja chacha have suggested powder coating is the way to go. Point 1 and 2 are incorrect... and are some of the worst misconceptions that people have about rain riding. Please correct your post.Originally posted by vkavadia View PostRainy season rides are fun only when its not raining
As for advice...
1) If you don't like riding slow then you could reduce your tyre air pressure a bit. It'll give you the extra surface area you need while braking.
2) Use the front brake very gradually since its much more likely to lock the wheel.
3) Be weary of potholes and don't ride fast unless you know the road (like vishwas sir said)
4) Be extra careful while turning on blind corners because if some vehicle's stuck and you see it at the last moment, emergency braking or swerving can be pretty tricky.
5) Ride slow.
6) I guess you already know this but the road is at its slipperiest when it *just* starts raining as the water mixes with the oil and debris on the road. Takes a few minutes of rain to wash all this sludge away and then its much safer.
That's all i can think off..
I had blogged about some tips of rain riding (check link )
PS: Rain riding IS fun! Just like every other aspect of motorcycling, it tests your skill with the bike and ofcourse makes the journey cooler and the destination greener!
