Mumbai Biking Fraternity Safety Meet
Around 15 guys were present for the meet n had successfully put their contribution in making our roads safe for ourselves as well as for others.
Now I made a point to discuss whatever was discussed n decided at Pune Safety meet.
4 senior guys had come from MRC (Mumbai Rider's club) on my request n now we know that one more group will fine-tune itself. "for the Greater Good", apart from xbhpians.
"For the Greater Good"
So I cleared the air n explained the things in exactly Sagarr46's words.
2)Now we started with safety discussions n finalized things on implementing of some STRICT Rules to be followed by Seniors n Newbies alike. Anyone found without proper Riding gear or valid Bike Documents during Pre-Ride check-ups will be sent home straight away, n if the guy tries to argue, strict action will be taken like putting a permanent Ban from our Clan.
3) FORMATION RIDING: This age-old argument continues to bother our clan still, so it was the first thing we tried to sort out. Its a simple fight between Rippers & Moderate Riders.
**Moderate riders: had always blamed Rippers of being fast (I thought thats why we were called that in the first place
) & they always Ripp n speed away as soon as we enter a Highway & meet only at the destination. So whats the point of group riding?**Rippers say: Dont we all come out on the weekends to have fun? to do what we like to do, to do what we resist doing in the city all the week? We ride together coz we are like minded, but most imp thing is we come out to have fun & for recreation.
OUTCOME: From now onwards we will divide into 2 to 3 groups (3 only when numbers are too high) We'll have 2 Leaders & two Tailing guys.
First group will consist of all the Rippers (riding around 90+kmph), so the Leader & Tailing guys has to be Rippers. Second group will consist of moderate riders & NEWBIES (riding at max of 70-80 kmph) having a a Leader & tali ender of the same genre.
Both groups will be meeting during short tea breaks.
4) LEADERS & TAIL'ers: A leader will check & make sure no one passes him, while maintaining safe speeds for the group. A Leader for a certain ride will be the only person who knows the road well & who rides well.
While a Tailing guy will make sure no one is left behind & it will be his duty to inform the Leader if sumone slows down or stops, so the group can come to a halt or start riding slow till everyone joins back.
By Old_Fox sir: The leaders should make sure during the pre-ride brief that everyone has to maintain the slot he/she starts with. There should be NO OVERTAKING at all amongst the group members. And if each rider keeps an eye on the one immediately behind him through his RVM's, there shall be no 'straying' of the group members.
5) OTHER RIDERS: Everyone needs to keep an eye on the person behind &religiously following the one ahead.
6) RVMs: Used to keep an eye on the Riders behind you & the overtaking 4 wheeled beasts. Must for every bike or NO RIDE.
7)RIDING GEARS: NO GEAR NO RIDE, as simple as that.
Everything mentioned below is compulsory
HELMET: Full face only & tight head fit
JACKET: Armoured OR a thick jacket but accompanied with atleast Elbow guards.
GLOVES: Riding or Leather
KNEE/SHIN GUARD: Even the skating knee gusrda will do, still try to get the full Guards.
RIDING BOOTS / SPORT SHOES: To kittos/chappals/formal shoes. Strictly tight fitting sport shoes or even better if riding shoes.
8) DOCUMENTS: NO DOCUMENTS NO RIDE, again as simple as that.
which needs to be carried (All in originals). Better keep 'em under the seat with your first aid kit.
1)License
2)RC
3)Insurance
4)PUC
7) FIRST AID: During the Pune Safety Meet, NV (senior Pune xbhpian) mentioned about a First Aid Training Camp conducted by the Government of India / Red Cross, for FREE. So we here at MSM, decided to take arange a similar camp with GOI for all the Riders in Mumbai or whoever is interested. It is not manadatory as we cant force anyone to do so, but the bigger the number, better the safety. It'll help every individual to enhance the knowledge of First Aid or What to do if an accident happens, how to deal with the victim & that will surely help us save a life if not all. A few members in Mumbai clan (Ajinkya, Harsh, etc.) already had that training as the part of their job.
8) FIRST AID KIT: It is mabdatory forEvery member to keep a BASIC first aid kit with them. The kit can rest under your seats all the time with your Bike papers causing no disturbance in ur riding & speed.
9)RIDING STYLE: Know your riding abilities & develope your own riding style n skills. Dont try to copy or imitate anyone, it will leave you in a mess in the end.
If you like a certain Rider's antics, may it be cornering on ghats, Stunting or anything, dont try to copy at first. Wait for him to stop, then go n ask him about the techniques & learn from him, practice it in safe environments n then do it in open.
10) Bike's mechanical condition: As Ketan discribes it, its the physical condition of the bike. Every month or if possible before each long ride/tour/xbhp meets, get your Bike properly checked & serviced. If you have the basic knowledge of your bike, you can check that yourself as well. The most important things to check are: Handlebar (it shouldnt be loose or bent), Rims (check for the cracks), Tyres (check for the cracks), Brakes (should work PERFECTLY), Forks (again check for the cracks n bends) etc.
11)TOURING: Nothing mandatory here but a warning & a suggestion that is very much helpful. We request you guys not to travel/ride/tour solo, take atleast another Biker with you riding along n can be very helpful if anything happens to sumone. Atleast he will be able to look out for help or call the police/ambulance or sumthing.
12)RIDER DETAIL LIST: A list which is already in the making. This will be printed n will be handed out to each memeber & they should carry it along with the First Aid Kit & Documents.
This will consist of:
*Each Rider's full name
*Residential Address & ph no.
*two emergency contact nos.
*Blood group
*Alergies (if any)
13)EMERGENCY CONTACT LIST: Another nice idea from senior Pune xbhpian Tourer_Kashif.
We should carry/note-down numbers of the major places like hospital / Police station / highway helpline numbers, en-route to Riding destination.
Even you are riding alone to some new place, try to note down the numbers provided on highways.
What more we can do is that we can make a list of all the highways around with all possible Emergency helpline nos. on that way. Get it printed along with our RIDER DETAIL LIST.
14)A MEDICAL VAN with a DOC: An ingenious idea of Sagar46 & other Pune xbhp members. During all our one day rides to ghats n elsewhere, where we go to release our weekly frustration, we'll keep a HIRED medical Van, a Doctor in it, with proper first Aid. So that if anything MAJOR happens, we dont have to waste time in calling an Ambulence or searching for a Hospital. It'll roughly cost us Rs.1000/2000 & we all contribute for that. Each individual will have to pay max Rs.200 or less n thats not much for your life. Even if someones broke for a ride, we can manage that.
Also, If arranging / hiring a medical van with a doctor for every ride proves difficult and expensive, One of the member can volunteer to drive down ( a car) for the planned ride instead and the other riders can pitch in for the car's fuel. This will ensure that a backup vehicle is always available to carry the injured immediately to the hospital in case of a minor mishap.
Though I agree its not possible for the TOURs.
For this thing again a MEET will be held soon with all the members present (specially seniors) so that we can GO with the idea from next month itself.
15)MEDICAL INSURANCE: Every Rider is requested to get a MI, as basic one covers upto 1Lac to 2 Lac & you just have to pay Rs.500/month ONLY. Not much for your life.
..tO be continued...

(As we gather more idea from around the world)
