last saturday @ 6.30pm, i was walking along the f. c. road, pune & i already felt some 20 odd years getting knocked-off my age calendar...
when everything else is done & over with & i grow even older than what i am today, i plan to retire @ a two-story row house @ manali w/ 2 housemaids in their early 20's!
have had enuff of mumbai, pune, thane for that matter!

I am interested in the Sunday ride that is happening. However, need clarification on a few points.
1) What is the groups attitude towards pillions? If positive, do they need protective gear too.
2) As per rules of the forum I must register on the SMS channel which google seems to have blocked due to rise in bulk SMS costs.Can this be waived?

I am interested in the Sunday ride that is happening. However, need clarification on a few points.
1) What is the groups attitude towards pillions? If positive, do they need protective gear too.
2) As per rules of the forum I must register on the SMS channel which google seems to have blocked due to rise in bulk SMS costs.Can this be waived?

answer 1: i.m.h.o. there is no group. except for 4~5 people out of the 20 odd respondents, i've not even met anybody in person - but am looking forward to meeting them all @ the ride. every individuals attitude varies however i have not found anybody yet, who is not amicable or is disrespectful towards others.

we are just a bunch of bike fanatics who love to ride as a group so that we have the added safety & benefits of riding in a group + added perks of making good friends + extra bonus of talking a lot about our common interests i.e. motorcycles & touring.

i look @ the rider & the pillion w/ equal dignity & respect.

we do *not* race. we ride responsibly. the fastest member of the group, always waits for the slowest member of the group [that's me] @ pre-decided nav-points. how fast one rides is the last thing on anybody's mind. nevertheless, a pillion rider is just as vulnerable to injuries in case of a fall & hence he / she is expected [& rightfully so] to be fully geared.

answer 2: let aside the sms channel.., the least u can do is to list out ur name, ur forum handle, ur real contact details, etc. on the ICE sheet @ post #1 of this thread.

this is obviously for ur own safety & everybody else's convenience. out there on the open road, god forbid, if anything goes wrong, the least one should know is, whom to inform about the status of things.

trust that u agree.

in case u already have a friend on the confirmed &/or the tentative list who is joining the ride... u riding pillion should not be an issue.

Hi. Welcome to xBhp! I assume this would be your first ride? To answer your questions:

1. We most welcome pillions, but protective gear is mandatory for them too because they'd get hurt the same way a rider would in case of a fall. For BOTH the rider and pillion the minimum protection required is:

a. Helmet: Has to be in good condition and preferably ISI/DOT certified and full faced-
b. Thick Jacket/Riding Jacket: Must have inbuilt armour or external armour is also allowed
c. Gloves: Must cover vital points like knuckles and wrist. Cut/half gloves not allowed
d. Knee Guards: Either bionic or regular flex type. Should be worn inside trousers if non bionic.
e. Riding Boots/Sports Shoes/Army Boots: Anything that covers the foot well.

Apart from this make sure you have the following documentation:
a. Valid Driving License: MUST have and carry at all times

plus if you're bringing your motorcycle:

b. Bike Registration Papers: Original or Attested Photocopy
c. Bike Tax Certificate: Original or Attested Photocopy
d. Bike Insurance Certificate: Preferably a comprehensive insurance, personal insurance would be a plus.
e. PUC Certificate: A valid PUC certificate

2. There is no need for you to register on the SMS channel as it's defunct. Just enter your name in the ICE sheet here:

Finally, add your name to the existing list by replying with quote to the appropriate post.
