Animals in need of help
I thought to share this with you all. Hopefully we could save few lives !
The Andheri one is located just few buildings away from where I stay ... they are doing a pretty good work !For animals in need…
(Article from Preeti Gupta, Mumbai Mirror)
The Ghatkopar-based ambulance service for stray animals, Jeevdaya Mangal Vardhini, is leaving no stone unturned to save the lives of the strays.
Timely medical attention can save lives not only of humans but also animals. This is what Ghatkopar-based trust Vardhman Sanskarsdham had realised five years ago and kick started an ambulance service for stray animals who more often than not succumb to their injuries in the absence of right medical aid. They started Jeevdaya Mangal Vardhini (JMV), the ambulance service dedicated to the strays.
This service has been operational for half a decade thanks to the public donation to the trust, which pumps in funds to run the ambulance service. Raju Shah from the trust is heading the ambulance service. He says, “This service commenced to rescue wounded stray animals and birds and try to save as many as possible by providing them appropriate medical aid. Depending on the injury we take a call whether to give them on-the-spot treatment by our doctors or take them to a hospital.”
The limited medical service for the stray animals is in sharp contrast to the mushrooming grooming parlours for pet animals. However, a service like this indeed comes across as a ray of hope for these distressed animals. JVM ambulance service can be contacted on 6525 2573 between 9 am and 8 pm. ” Even though people appreciate the service, the number of calls reporting wounded animals or birds is only a handful. The trust members feel that the service can do much better if people become more aware and take an initiative in saving the lives of strays by making a call to the ambulance service. While speaking about the service, Chembur resident Sharda Bodankar says, “I have spotted these ambulances helping injured animals in Chembur quite a few times. I was really touched to know that at least someone cares for the stray animals. The service runs with the assistance of 15 paid staff members and five doctors who provide first aid treatment to the animals and later admit them in a hospital if the need arises. JVM is aiming to expand its service spectrum across the city in the near future by increasing the number of ambulances to cover all the zones.
Currently, four ambulances are operating covering areas like Chembur, Ghatkopar, Sion, Andheri, and Vashi. “Each ambulance is providing free-of-cost treatment to about 25 to 30 animals every day. We work in tandem with animal hospitals at Govandi and Parel. In case, if the condition of an animal demands comprehensive treatment we admit him in a hospital,” informs Shah.

@Satyen: Can't make it on Saturday....prior commitment (very, very important - can't miss [going to meet parents at GoregaonOriginally posted by satyenpoojary View Post@Centaur: May be we could merge the plan...
I HAVE to meet someone in the wee hours of Saturday, then will proceed to some place at like 5-5:30 AM may be?
Shirdi is about 5 hours of ride so should be there by 11, and try getting Darshan and either stop over OR ride back... lazily...
])
And the Sunday plan also depends on Saturday, but have to be back the same day, 'cos no overnighters for a while now...
and also, Monday - office

Rony thats a lot of good info, may be you should make a new thread of it.Originally posted by Rony View PostI thought to share this with you all. Hopefully we could save few lives !

More so it helps for people who have had accident or have witnessed one with strays and are confused on what to do!
I remember an old moderator asking about what should be done long ago, and a few days later I had witnessed a small crash myself.
Would be a good repository of numbers from across the cities in a single thread!

Great info Rony. I remember some months back had gone for a short night ride to uran, stopped for five minutes at the side of the rode to adjust balaclava, just next to where i had stopped i saw a puppy which was shivering. Thought it must have been run over, so checked. Luckily there was no visible bruising. Its eyes were closed but it was breathing. I called up PETA(got number from justdial), they never picked up. Then called the animal hospital in parel, they said i would have to get the pup to parel for treatment. That was not possible for me, all I could do I wrap the pup in a cloth, was kinda helpless. Hope it survived the night. Saved those numbers in your last post.Originally posted by Rony View PostI thought to share this with you all. Hopefully we could save few lives !

@Sachin: Put me up in confirm list, but I would be leaving @ around 5ish in the morning from Malad. So, let me know if any of you would want to delay it by a hour or so. Else we could catch up at Nasik.
Lemme know the route you intend to take as well.Super CommuTOURer - Talk less, Ride more

Infact I was just thinking about this the other day. xbhp has a huge database of our interactions on a number of biking trips/events and the data is organized, categorized and searchable. Future bikers (which could include us in the future) will find it easier to look for information on routes, prep details, issues, etc by simply mining the information from the xbhp database (which is a fancy way of saying searching and reading stuff off the forum). I bet a lot of silent members already do this on a regular basis. By subscribing to the "convenience" of FB, we are making a big mistake ie moving the information to a platform which doesn't support categorization to the extent that xbhp does and making it infinitely more difficult for a future generation of bikers to benefit from our experience. I noticed the same thing with Chris's visit where FB was bombarded with images and details while very little found its way to these forums and while all of us have the images adorning our FB walls, our walls are not searchable for those that don't "belong" in our friend circle.Originally posted by satyenpoojary View PostLets inconvenience the ones who find FB convenient
make them COME back to the thread to know about all the trip plans..
Mu ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ..
Having said that, I think it's also unwise to ignore FB completely. Despite my pro-xbhp stance even I find FB to be more convenient at times. A major reason being FB is more easily accessible on the mobile platform whereas xbhp is a real pain in the butt (or maybe that's just my opinion). Furthermore a lot more people are regularly logged in to FB and all said and done it does make it super easy to share everything in one place.
The solution? Leverage the FB platform. FB has APIs that allow integration of apps into the mix (we all know that). Why can't xbhp work towards an FB app that allows you to "Create an event" and allow people to RSVP? The advantage of such an app would be that while updates could be sent to everyone's wall, the event data and the RSVP data could remain within the xbhp database (and reposted automagically to the forums as a post). Edit:Not just RSVP details, the app could also provide an interface to post responses which could then be merged with the forum posts. Ditto with image albums. One could conceivably allow users to publish FB albums to xbhp (and vice versa) through an app. I know such a platform would take time and resources to build but its possible and perhaps a more sensible way to ensure that xbhp stays relevant in the times to come because if I can think of such hooks into FB - its only a matter of time that someone else does and implements it - driving traffic away from xbhp.
Just my two cents.Last edited by alankarmisra; 04-07-2011, 04:06 PM.

What you are talking is called as a FB bridge, and already exists as a plugin for Vbulletin forums. I know one site that did try and do it too, *cough*
@Sachin: I am ok with 4AM now! My work will be wrapped before that!

I'm assuming FB bridge is a name of a specific brand of technology. I'm familiar with FB APIs and they don't mention FB bridge anywhere. Anyway if such a bridge exists for VBulletin forums (as does a mobile plugin) then xbhp should probably acquire and implement both of them!Originally posted by satyenpoojary View PostWhat you are talking is called as a FB bridge, and already exists as a plugin for Vbulletin forums.

Its an extension for vBulletin. Using it is not so difficult.Originally posted by alankarmisra View PostI'm assuming FB bridge is a name of a specific brand of technology. Infact I do remember chatting with Sunny about this a long while ago.... he said that the website would soon be undergoing a bit of change.
Mobile plugin is so much desireable, but seems like a negative choice due to lack of sponsors. Do you notice something funny about our sponsors and thier advertising here
