This is a 2 day road trip. Starting point will be HP Petrol Pump opp Utkal heights on NH5 at 4am. 2nd meet point will be OMP Square CTC at 4:30 am [take the underpass and stand on left]

Mahanadi Dhaba - instead of going to breakfast shop we went to dhaba [bad planning ]

and the dhaba guys offered yes yesterdays pakhal Bhaat [water rice] and alu bhaja [fried potato]

. Luckily we found a dahi bara shop in front of the dhaba. Lots of riders returned from here, rest of the bikers move on to the 3rd spot.

12th June 2016: Weekend Ride to Padmapad Mundia

Padmapad in Sanskrit is the divine feet of the Lord while Mundia refers to bald hill in Odiya. This small hillock has a temple of the Mahima Cult on its top. It also has a hypaethral temple of Lord Ram, where a stone slab is believed to have the imprints of the Lord’s feet. There is a small temple of Hanuman nearby which is of recent origin. The whole setting is amidst thick old banyan trees & rich vegetation.

As the days are quite hot. We have decided to start early and finish early.

After a short ride of 10 km from kiit square we reached Padmapad Mundia

Stairs to the hilltop

On climbing to its top one can get a bird’s eye view of the Bhubaneswar skyline, the adjoining Chandaka forest and elephant reserve. We didn’t shot the Bbsr skyline but in this pic you can see the "Asian School of Business Management" & the Chandaka forest behind it.

This small temple on the hilltop is called the Akhand Bati Mandir. The few Mahima sadhus who stay at the tungi have kept the eternal flame alight since the last century. These sadhus roam around nearby villages to propagate their religion, never spending more than one night at a place. While they do not believe in the caste system and accept food from all, they are habituated to get up early in the morning before sunrise and pray to the rising sun. They wear saffron clothes; fall flat on the ground, keeping their head straight towards the rising sun and stand up with folded hands looking at the sun repeatedly for some time. They repeat the same practice in the afternoon praying before the setting sun. They do not take any food after sunset.

The lotus feet slab in Padmapad temple has been there since ancient times. It was inside the thick jungle, hidden and secluded for years. Legends have it that Lord Ram spent some time of his exile in this place. Local villagers worship the place.

There are small rocks cut idols of Ram, Laxman, Sita & Hanuman in a niche of a large rock. The priest lives in a nearby hut and you can call out to him to come and do the puja.

After breakfast we decided to have some off-roading fun.
