Maintain the bike properly (services, oil changes, etc.) and try to improve your riding skills. That's about it for basic biking advice.

As for engine performance upgrades, that's a different matter altogether. You should ask a more specific question for useful answers.

there are various ways to improve the engine or the overall performance some of the most feasible ones are:
1. K&N air filter
2. Iridium Spark plugs
3. Splitfire cables
4. Free flow exhaust
5. shifting to semi synth lube
others inculde:
big bore engine
nos system
changing the stock sprocket and chain etc.

but with every increase in performance there is a drop in the mileage...

Default fazer nearin 6000kms 3rd service

Guys my bike bought on november 2009 clocked 5900km now due 3rd service anytime now.my bike started heating up after short distance of 7 to 10km after 2nd service.service centre guys told this is normal but i dunno.a friend of mine told to change the oil so at 4000 kms i changed the oil to castrol active 20w40 semi synthetic but heating up still continues so i have few questions regarding the oil
is there any damage to the bike if i do not use oil of the prescribed rating(20w40)
which oil should i preferably use....?
i was thinking of a)motul 15w50 factory line
b)castrol power1
c)i visited an oil shop there was valvoline sythetic blend oil which doesnt have any rating they said its very good, costs around 300+bucks
d)or should i stick to the prescribed yamalube??

any1 here in the thread have same heating effect after short rides?
awain your replies

no such problem till now... but one thing is you should not change the figure after w i.e fz runs on 20w40... so the options u should go for are 15w40 or 10w40 and not 15w50.... and when you visit a center for valvoline they will always say its very good....

Default 5th service done

I got my bike serviced on monday with complaints about the gear shift and mileage. The gear shift seems to have improved a bit but it's still not as good as it was before the previous service. The tuning has been changed and the throttle response and acceleration have suffered. I have to test for mileage today.

Thanks in advance.
I did my puncture on Old Madras Road, Opp RTO office near petrol bunk. I am not facing any problem till date. I did do a back to back 390+350 kms=740 kms to Trichy. I got only 35km/l mileage. I did rip it though above 100 speed. Believe it or not I covered 170+ kms in 2 hrs while coming back. FZ is really AWESOME

My fz beast is on a downhill. I have recorded the lowest ever mileage of 33kmpl on my bike ( instead of the normal 45-48kmpl ). The problem is that I don't know whats the reason. The speed is normally 50-55km/hr with no rash driving.
The only reason I can think is of my chain is very tight. Apart from that there is no reason. Whats the solution to my problem. Please do reply

The SVC guys detuned your FZ completely.....i think they simply turn the A/F screw to lean......
thats it....they dont TUNE it in the real sense....same thing has been done to my bike....now am thinking of doing the tuning myself....
just not getting time from work.....do let me know the mileage though>>>
cheers.......

It's not the idle mixture screw that they adjust. It has little effect on the overall performance of the engine. I think it's actually the neddle jet position that they have adjusted.
