  • A few queries on the Yamdoot 350

    1) In which year was the first RD350 launched in India?
    2) Were the earlier models imported?
    3) Were these the ones known as HT?
    4) Does HT and LT stand for High Torque and Low Torque?
    5) What is the exact BHP, torque and top-speed figures (in stock state) of the HT and LT models?
    6) In which year was the HT stopped and the LT introduced (if that was the way it was)?
    7) When did the YAMAHA logo on the tank get replaced by RAJDOOT?
    8) In which year did the RD get CDI ignition?
    9) In which year was the last RD sold in India?
10)Approximately how many RD's were sold in total in India?
11)Was there any colour other than - Red, Blue, Silver, Black - that the RD came in?

Thanks for the right answers from someone who knows. I can think of only one person though...the two stroke forum moderator who can answer all these questions for me.

LOL pal i'm just a RD freak weak in history but still will give it a go-
1)rd was launched here in 81 i think.
2)no but earlier models were the U.S. spec bikes with japanese barrels and imported components.still the best RD engines here.
3)actually there was no HT till the LT came.
    4)Yes.
    5)bhp for U.S spec bike-39
    HT-30.5 and 3.3 kgm
    LT-27.5.
6)HT came till late 1984 when LT's were started.
    7)somewhere in 84-85.
8)cdi on the last few production bikes in 90-91.
    9)i think finally in 92
    10)under 10k.
    11)no
i would like to add that the LT here had a 2mm restrictor plate riveted to the exhaust port.to retard the exhaust port opening and a bigger lip in the heads gasket face, timing changed to 2.4mm btdc from 2mm btdc.this made it produce burst of power at low rpm but bike didn't rev past 7k rpm.top speed HT-160 kmph,LT-140kmph.LT has more than twice of HT's engine life and good for city use.average a tad more too.

thanks for the kind words but i say tht my exposure is very limited and restricted mostly to a kb and the yamaha 2st here.but i like learning and any guy if ready to explain something i bug him a lot like i do to chinoy.
to those having some confusion in ht and lt-easiest way is to look below the last fin of left barrel this is embossed on a HT-347 cc.on a LT barrel look for this-'347cc rajdoot made in india'.or try lifting the head and feel for the plate on the exhaust port top.heads r bit different too.otherwise both r same,we get many mix and match here now.many mystaries too associated with the bike.

forgot to mention can be done by a vernier or saada scale,on the barrel measure the distance from the liner top to top of exhaust port,if it is 36mm it's a LT,if 32 it's a HT.and prefer using a dial gauge for timing the bike and a light.if anyone interested ask and i'll post the whole process which i pay and get done LOL.

Thanks very much Rajnish, for the info. And I hope there are some RDs left in this world by the time I am able to afford a second bike! Sigh! (should have been born some 10 years earlier atleast!)

Right bout the power to money ratio, Rajnish. RD rulez when it comes to acceleration, you can easily get addicted to that. And some ppl think that theres nothing faster than their so called 'India's first sports motorcycle'. Btw I heard from Rash that there's a ron ported RX100 in Pune which produces 32+bhp???? That bike will **** the **** outta any damn Indian motorcycle, even a stock RD(in terms of acceleration).
