I recommend a rethink of your plan in the interests of greater safety and enjoyment on the ride.

So what is the best time to go after august!.. Because Before august I cannot plan for any thing.

You don't have options, so will have to do it in the Aug window. Just try to be with a capable group so that when you fall in streams, there is someone to pick you up

I'm planning on riding to Leh from Delhi with my friend on his KTM Duke.
Planning on doing it on my Ninja, is it a risk for the bike? Or should I go for a bike rental from Delhi?!

I don't see any problems there. You would need to be a bit careful in not grounding the front lower fairing.

KurtRules had gone on the new CBR 250, a similar bike. You could ask him about his experiences.

Rentals have their pros and cons. I would prefer to take a bike to Leh that I know well and face hassles confidently than a bike I don't know at all and risk falling prey hassles

Your FZ-S will be okay for the journey. Others have done the trip on this bike earlier and have not reported any problems.
Oh ya, that was OT, wanted to mention it

Thats great to hear FZ-S is okay for this trip.

Also got full riding gear recently which should be enough for Leh trip to take over extreme climate there.

Universal : Riding Gears Thread

Apart from this I have got GPS mount for bike with waterproof cover, which i can use with my MapMyIndia navigator and also battery tender/Connector to charge the navigator or mobile phones, These things should be useful in Leh.

Hmm, I have actually did a lot of Off-roading with my Ninja. What's making me rethink is the engine getting over-heated... Anybody got any insight about it?!

The advise regarding retal bikes are true. I agree.

You see, May, June and July are the months which see max riders going there. So, even if you are single, you can mingle. Obstacles of all types are more easily overcome when numbers of riders are present to help.

Secondly, there is no dearth of accommodation to suit every pocket.

Aug onwards, the season tapers off and ends around the first week of Oct.

I remember when I was commanding the detachment at Pang, the annual winter stocking convoy drivers would be full of stories about riders of all garbs on the road. Then, suddenly, they started feeling lonely at the end of Sep - no colour on the roads, no smiling civilians to help, back to the grind and time to face the winter.

I had hosted 3 scientists from Bangalore in Aug 1996 at Pang. They had been closer to the Almighty than to us that night, I recollect. I had had to fortify them with a few shots of brandy to rejuvenate their spirits. One of my jawans had to monitor them throughout the night for any medical issues; my doctor was worried too. But they pulled thru' the night and the next morning, were fit to ride to Taglang La and Leh. Those were the days...
