Yes, the DSG Phoenix/falcon are quite good. But wait before you commit; I visited the DSG showroom in Pune and Vijay Chikkara told me that they would be intro a new series of touring jackets in November.
Among the present ones, I preferred the Maze personally; with the inner lining, it is good for winter and without, for the summers. One has to wear a rain cover for the monsoons in any case unless the jacket is waterproof but then I suppose it would not be adequately ventilated for our hot summers.

I just checked the Skoyco jackets JK 27, and man those are really awesome jackets for the LEH Trip. The fit, finish, ruggedness and the liner protection against cold are quiet good for the price they are selling it.
They will be coming the same model with chest protectors provision somewhere in Jan 2012 retailing close to the same price of 6500/ - and i believe its a good buy considering the leh trip.

Yes, but since you are planning to ride in cold weather I don't think these will be of much help. Trying them out will be a good idea. On the other hand they offer good protection, so coupled with good thermal uppers, it would be a good option. Also, the gloves you have mentioned are not waterproof so you might want to look into that.Originally posted by xRohit View PostRiding jacket at 2.3k????

You might want to buy a size slightly larger than your exact body size as you are going to need to wear many layers under these.Last edited by vikhyath; 10-22-2011, 08:23 AM.In today's world, quotes don't matter. Quotas do!

Material for gloves has to do double duty - permeable to air for ventilation and impermeable to moisture for rain. But in my experience, no waterproof LEATHER glove is truly impervious to rain; leather is porous and absorbs moisture. Only rubberised gloves with an outer layer of Neoprene (used in SCUBA diving) are truly waterproof.Originally posted by vikhyath View PostYes, but since you are planning to ride in cold weather I don't think these will be of much help. My technique for the coming ride would be to wear my DSG waterproof gloves (whatever they are worth) and try to avoid riding in the rain. Hence the timing for the ride - June - when the monsoon is yet to reach Leh.
One gentle request. Could we PM each other about such issues which are mostly personal and individual based rather than post in the thread. Thank you for cooperating

Am sure the above discussed topics are one of the very basic issues faced by many!Originally posted by icemang View PostMaterial for gloves has to do double duty - permeable to air for ventilation and impermeable to moisture for rain. Which is true but in my opinion, that is why this is not the place to discuss gear related issues. There is a humungous amount of stuff on gloves in other threads. This thread is NOT for that but rather acts as a meeting ground for persons interested in Leh in 2012. It is better to search for and visit riding gear related threads and discuss specifics on them than do it here.Originally posted by me is rossi View PostAm sure the above discussed topics are one of the very basic issues faced by many!

Hi Sumit , i am also interested for the ride.Originally posted by Sumit_B View PostI am interested for this ride. I am researching about Leh-Ladakh and nearby places from the last 3-4 months and have also read many articles related to roadtrips to this place. Me and my frnd (both tourers) are ready to join the ride if more people are willing to ride from Pune.
I have few questions:
1) Is Khardungla (world's highest motorable road) somewhere in between the places we gonna ride?
2) If you can provide an estimated amount of the expenses it will be helpful.
3) I own a yamaha fazer, will this 153 cc engine be able to roll tat distance and conditions
??Desperate for a date with "LEH LADAKH"

Hi friends
I did Leh this year (June/July 2011) with some friends from bcmtouring. Here is my budget/planner for a Leh trip.
My two bits:-
Plan at least six months in advance. The rider is the most important part in trip and get yourself fit. These are detailed in the May/June issue of XBHP magazine which I found to be helpful. You can choose any four stroke bike of at least 150cc or better. If you can get hold of a fuel injected one, the better. If you have a carburated bike, learn to clean the carb and to tweak it for high altitude adjustments. Lean some clutch adjustments as well as puncture repair.
I went in my 2009 RE STD350 CI. Well..everybody takes Bullets to the hills; but that doesn't mean they are suited to the hills. My ideal bike would a naked off-roader with good power and torque at lower rpms. Most the travel from Manali to Leh will be in first, second and third gear only. So we need power and torque at lower rpm.
I am attaching my list of things for the trip. This for a budget trip. I have not included Pangong Tso, Nubra, Suru, Zanskar etc. This is for a basic trip from Delhi_Bilaspur_Manali_Darcha_Pang_Leh_Kargil_Sonam arg_Ramban_ Amritsar_Delhi. Of course, you can add variations and alter the trip.
My ideal pack for the trip is three riders/bikes. If more number of bikers are there, they can be divided into three. My take is that larger group is tend behave like hooligans at some point or other. But this is strictly my take..so please forgive me if you feel I am wrong..I am a 40 year old confused soul..
Most important..Everybody who get Leh'd will carry some part of it in his/her person for the rest of their life..Its been more than 4 months since I have returned from Leh.. But I am already yearning for Leh.. who knows.. I will be back there..
ride safe
