Your bike's problems are not due to synthetic oil, IMO. There is something else wrong.

@prince: do see the number of people who are using the same engine oil without problems for thousands of kms including me. Your problem might be linked to a problem in the engine itself, regardless the brand/type of the engine oil.

Hello fellow bikers,

I own a Pulsar UG III 150 cc.Bought it almost 2 yrs and 2 months ago and have clocked 35k kms on the bike so far....
I just have a couple of questions :

1.Is there any effect on the clutch plates or the pick up of the bike if you tend to fill the oil a little over the upper mark.. I normally use my bike a lot and the oil tends to burn a little faster than normal and hence the oil doesnt even last a month completely.I usually get a top up within a period of 10-15 days or so, if I put the oil till the upper mark.So I tend to fill it above the upper mark, normally full.
My mechanic avoided me to do so as he says that it affects the pick up of the bike. Is it true ? Or it doesnt make a difference at all ?

2.Secondly I feel that my bike doesnt perform as it ideally should cuz the clutch plates worn out at 15k kms and I dont feel the pick up too great when I compare ny friend's bike (same 150cc, but his is 1 .2 yrs old)

Please advise...

Not just pick up... there can be other adverse effects too. Please avoid filling more than the max mark!

And btw, your oil consumption sure seems abnormal... you might want to get it checked out. How many km do you do in these 15 days?

Please note that the temperature mentioned in the charts is the ambient atmospheric temperature and that becomes an input to choosing oil grade.

Brings up a nagging question I've had w.r.t the Karizma:

Why does HH recommend using a grade of oil that is aimed primarily at colder climes? 10W30 is recommended for temperatures up to 30 degrees Celsius for the most part, but with temperatures consistently breaching the 40 degree mark, shouldn't 10 or 15 or 20W40 be the recommended oil?

I wish HH would speak out about this puzzling switch - the silence makes me wonder if there's something they're hiding.

^^^ It is the HH's shift to 10W30 oil from 20W40 across the entire range that was bugging me for the past many months. Even pulling out above posted information was a part of that.

Though there is no information from the Bike makers about how the new 10W30 oils are suitable or better... oil companies did mention that these new formulations have high temperature protection or sort of, the known fact in the industry is that a 10W30 oil gives less friction and there by more mileage and better pickup. No explanations here though!

I am sure that there is more than that meets the eye here. A good 10W30 oil might do better than a 20W40 oil for most customers... Also, I believe Honda has to approve any decision Hero Honda has to execute... but then why does Honda themselves use 20W40 and let HH use 10W30 oil in the same engine??? and throughout the country - without the regard for local climate...! Complex questions... might be a single simple answer - sometimes money shuts technology's mouth. Just wish that HH cares to explain the true reason behind the switch...

I do not think W30 means it can be used only in climates where the temp is below 30 degrees. AFAIK, 30 indicates the viscosity index.

Suzuki is using 10w30 oil for SX4 and Swift, why so when the average temperatures in India (in most parts) are around 35 degrees??
