PS: As stated from MotoWorld website, is it API SH & JASO MA?
I don't recall the specs, will need to check once. All I know is that it has a 5W40 rating.

How practical is a 5W40 oil in a place like India....

It indeed is. Practicality is not just about the cold temperatures... See, My Victor doesn't start easily during Winter & during rains. And I am speaking about Hyderabad, a relatively hot place in India. A 5w40 Oil spreads through the engine faster than my regular 20w40 oil and that reduces the engine wear. If it gives easier cold starts and jerk-free initial ride during such times, it is a bonus.

Also, my Victor is 51K kms old and I don't want to open the engine any sooner. Also, Victor is a relatively noisy bike and I am expecting to even out some noise with a good Synthetic oil. Now, to top that, I don't have a Synthetic Oil with 20w40 grade available.

A 15W50 has the same range as a 20W40 on the higher side with the winter range (15) being lower than 20.

^ That is just the operating temp range finwhich diff grade oils can be used. A Xw50 would be thicker than XW40 at the std reference point of 100deg C.

@Sandeep: I was just wondering and a little confused with something.

The Pulsar-200's engine oil capacity (according to the manual) is 1150ml (which is 1.15 litres). Now, if we use 1L oil (like the Valvoline or Motul or anything else for that matter), won't it harm the engine in any way since those come in 1 litre capacity. I understand the remaining 150ml is almost a negligible amount but then if the manual says so, it must have done R&D and stuff before specifying this amount.

So, how do we go about it? And people who do use 1L of oil instead of the specified 1150ml., what do they have to say? I ask this because I will be shifting to the 'Valvoline V4T' after the second service, so I was just wondering about the same.
              :)

I would always buy two cans. Initially I thought that the 150ml was not important but the svc center guys always poured an extra 200ml over the 1L whenever there was an oil change.

So I would always buy two 1L cans of whatever oil I wanted. I would keep one of them as the topup can so I would be using it only for 200ml topups while I would empty the other can entirely. That way from the second time onwards I only need to buy 1 new can....I would topup from the existing topup can till it was empty ( usually after 5 topups).

The Super Biker guys in Hyd are using AGIP Racing Fully Synth oil. It seems their mechanic gets them from Bangalore. They quoted Rs 600 and I told them I need 2 bottles but won't pay more than 550 as we get for 500 in Blr. If they agree, I am gonna get two bottles this week. If anyone else wants, pls let me know.

Joe gets all this stuff for them, actually the price is much lesser than what he charges for your super biker guyz.

The super bikers won't mind that price. But I do. DO you guys get it even cheaper in Blr? I mean, less than Rs 500?

Also, the Castrol Power1 Racing oil was launched in Hyd abt 3 days ago and dealers are waiting for the stocks. The guy quoted Rs 750 as the price.

If it is available than it is better than AGIP since the rating is more closer to recommended one.

if your preference is motul then the best option is MOTUL 5100 4t 15w40.
