Hi, I'll be buying a new bike in the next 2-3 weeks. Hoping for some advice.
My 7 year old RE Machismo is starting to give up on me due to driving in heavy city traffic. And with my new job, I don't have enough time to take care of it. My heart breaks to see it suffering. I spent almost 10K to get it back to shape and a month later, it was worse than before, with a bevy of new problems. So I finally hardened my heart and decided to sell it and get a new bike. Now, I'm faced with a problem. deciding between the r15,zmr, zma-r and the unicorn. For the next 2 months at least, i wont be going on any tours. My bike's only use would be the race to office and back, racing against time. My friends are suggesting the unicorn because it gives comparatively good mileage and is cheaper. But it is too common. I've always loved the power and the looks people give when they see the Machismo. I considered the zma-r due to its price. The r15 is good, but it looks too small and its thin tires r a great turn off. I love the zmr and I'm heavily biased towards it. But my friends r against it due to its price and mileage. I'm not sure about the lighter 150cc bikes, because i feel exposed and uncomfortable on them. They feel like bicycles with abnormally powered engines. I'm dead-set against the Pulsars. I don't know why, but it may be because they are too common. Every wannabe and even the not-wannabes has a pulsar. And now for the personal info: I am 5 ft 7 inches tall. I weigh 64 kgs. I'm not very muscular. I drive a bit fast, though I'm not the kind with a death wish. I learnt riding on the Machismo and i have little experience with other bikes. (Thats the reason for insecure feeling on lighter bikes.) I've been riding for almost 6 months now. I had a bad riding style because i learnt riding all alone, but i feel it is better now. I work in HCL BPO and a 1+ lakh bike will burn a big hole in my pocket. *sigh* But then, its all for the love of riding. ![]() I request u guys to help me out. Maybe a little nudge towards the zmr, or a huge pull away from it. Last edited by Udayakiran; 11-02-2009 at 08:12 PM. Reason: Wrong height info. |

1. Please dont under estimate R15 based on tyre size , they are super stable on road and having awesome grip
2. For your purpose there will be other bikes that will be available at much lower rate. Rtr 180 will be very much suitable for your type of use/purpose but i am not sure about the comfort it gives you as you are 6 feet and 7 inch .Just take a test drive of RTR 180 before you make a decision. If you feel comfortable it will server your purpose well and you can save a good amount by not buying ZMR. (can spent some amount on buying riding gears ) Now regarding karizma , it is a very comfortable reliable bike that will make you happy every mile you munch. You will love almost all the aspect of this bike the comfort , power , relaibility , accelaration. Before making a decision please arrange a karizma from any of your friend and take it to highways. You will simply love it. But the point is that how much you can utilize the potential of the bike. TO enjoy karizma fully you should take it in highways or take it for long tours atleast once in a while. But as per your requirment you are mostly riding only on cities i really doubt on how much you can enjoy the bike even though the bike will perform well and makes you happy. SO as i told above consider RTR 180 as well and take a test drive. Now regarding ZMR if you are ready to spent 1 lakh i cannot point out any single negative point about ZMR. It will give all features of karizma plus a lot of new goodies like FI , rear disk , new design , tubless tyres and after all with an attractive mileage. As far as we know now the ZMR will better karizma in many departments and is a really good bike to invest 1 lakh. It has the potential to serve you for many years and make you happy every time you ride it. The only thing i feel against suggesting you ZMA-R or ZMR is your type of use. I doubt how much you can enjoy the capabilities of these bikes if you ride only in cities Same is the case of R 15 if you only riding in cities you cannot enjoy R15 fully .In my openion at lower rpms (in city use) i feel ZMR/ZMA will be more fun. But R15 is an awsoem machine if you are hitting the higher Rpms. If you want to know more about R 15 there will be many R 15 owners here who can help you out. But let me remind you R 15 's fun band lies in High Rpms. You will not be doing justise To R 15 if you are limiting it to the city which has a lot of potentials and fun at higher Rpms. So consider other options like RTR 180 or Fz16 which is more suited for your type of use and will save some of your hard earned money. But since you are a tall guy DO take a proper test drive on all these machines and ensure that you are comfortable on it before making a decision.

mate, honestly it would be really tough to jump to another bike after riding a bullet, they just dont feel right, but the new ZMR should suit you just right. or you can/should have a look and try of the apache 180. Be different!!!

A 6.7 on a R-15? ...Naaahh!
RE is out. so is Pulsar (p220 could have been a serious contender). Don't want a tinniwinny 150. That leaves you ZMA-R & ZMR. Toss a coin. Heads..ZMR wins. Tails...ZMA-R Loses.

he wants a bike which he can keep for years. Because the initial years of his possesion aint gonna allow him much touring due to his job doesnt mean he settles in for a city bike like someone suggested here. Once he has enough dough collected for touring he WILL want to tour and then find himself in a soup trying to tour on an F16 kinda city bikes.
The ZMR is your only option I think. 220 would be cool too. 220s are not that common either !
