If there are any Chennai guys around here, can you tell me a good place to get a test drive? I live near the northern part of Chennai, near Anna nagar.

No idea bro. I'm not so familiar with the FZ, rode it only twice.Originally posted by Udayakiran View PostWhere IS the peak torque for FZ? Because i tried slowly increasing the throttle, but didn't feel any difference in acceleration. (Or i'm doing it the wrong way)
In my bike, (RE Machismo), the peak torque is on the lower end in the power band. And as i rev higher, the power flattens out. In the FZ's case, i didn't feel anything anywhere. On the Machismo, i can literally feel it dragging me along in the peak torque zone.
And about the Karizmas, is the placement of the foot pegs normal? Because i found myself treading air quite a few times on the FZ and had to look down to find it. I was missing it by almost a foot.
Hmmm looks like ZMR has you hook, line and sinker!!! Go for it if that's what your heart wants. In no way will it disappoint you.
But later, just don't regret not having taken a test ride of your other choices when you do get to ride them.

Bro I suggest FZ16 or Unicorn based on your requirement and expectations
FE - Uni is better than FZ
Handling - Both
City rides - Both
Touring - Both
Breaking - Uni is better I feel based on my experience
Power - Uni is better then FZ (U need to compromise Mr.Machismo Rider)
R15 is be a better option you are ready to burn your pockets, believe R15 is worth 1L>

I absolutely agree with u, except for 1 point. Though i haven't done much touring, i feel the Unicorn is better in that department, because of the riding position. I can easily sit straight on it, so i feel it is more comfortable for longer rides.Originally posted by bhargava_sr View PostBro I suggest FZ16 or Unicorn based on your requirement and expectations

Sadly, yes. Its clung to me like a devil and wont let go. I have the very bad feeling i'm ignoring the other bikes' positives because i like the ZMR too much. And the recent showroom visit just made it worse.
I really should try the R15, because it was my dream bike a few months back. I felt it was the closest i could get to a R1. (R1, WOW!)

Tried the R15. Cant call it a proper Test Drive, or even a drive, because the showroom guy gave me a display bike and didnt let me take it out on the main road, where i could test the bike actual power. Instead, he only let me try it in a small dead end lane, where i couldn't get past the second gear. Trying to make the best out of it, i tried checking the other aspects like comfort, braking, etc.
I was pretty comfortable, the riding position was not as radical as i expected. But I felt my body's weight on my wrists. I guess i'll have to adapt and find a more comfortable position.
The turning radius was larger than the FZ. That may pose a slight problem in city traffic.
I didnt feel the sluggishness i felt in the FZ. But sadly, i didnt get to try it in the higher RPMs where its actual forte is.
Brakes are amazing too, certainly better than FZ.
The size is something i was totally shocked about. It looks too small. It looked and felt minuscule.
But the overall feel of the bike was amazing.
And even the financier waved the green flag, so i guess that dept is also okay. It costs 1.09L in Chennai.
The fairing looked plasticky and didnt look well. Maybe it was just that one, but was is your (R15 owners') general feeling about it?

And wanted to mention another thing: the showroom guy said the current engine of the R15 (or the whole bike perhaps) is imported. Seems from next month, new R15s are gonna arrive that'll be manufactured in India. I felt he was blurting some half baked info he heard from his manager, or he was trying to get me to buy as soon as possible. The guy also promised delivery in 4 days after booking. Seems he has 4 blacks, a few yellows and reds. No blues
So, i had the following doubts:
1) Is it true that the engine or the whole bike is imported and that Yamaha has opened a plant in India?
2) Can this guy be trusted? Its okay to be over-eager, because that selling bikes IS his job, but delivery in 4 days??? It is as if he is trying to sell it off as soon as possible.

It is pathetic that showrooms don’t give proper TD for selling INR 1 lac bikeOriginally posted by Udayakiran View PostTried the R15. …. for that matter any bike… think they want to convey all product qualities through leaflets & display..
Manytime showroom guy don’t have half of the technical details of the bike (Real gem was when we were told in a biggest HH showroom here that stock ZMR will hit 170 kmph
).
R15 riding posture do put some of body weight on wrist…initially it will be tiring … believe me in couple hundred of Kms you will hit the sweet spot..Originally posted by Udayakiran View PostI was pretty comfortable, the riding position was not as radical as i expected. To some extent yes turning radius could be problem in bumper to bumper traffic especially for zig-zag type of riders, but I never felt constraint with it… also fairing do pose some discomfort while parking in congested spaces..(the way bikes are closely packed, handles of adjacent bikes touching each other, leaving less space for rider to exit after parking).Originally posted by Udayakiran View PostThe turning radius was larger than the FZ. Well that’s one of the trick.. makes it a great handler…lets bike to be leaned harder around and at higher approach and exit speeds at corners … plus to remember that bike was developed to be a supersport (or mini-supersport) rather then tourer/commuter, so need for managing the mass of rider in harmony with bike..Originally posted by Udayakiran View PostThe size is something i was totally shocked about. Well actually it is plasticOriginally posted by Udayakiran View PostThe fairing looked plasticky and didnt look well. Maybe it was just that one, but was is your (R15 owners') general feeling about it?
but material used is good….I’ve done 8K kms in 8 months and no rattling, cracks or whatsoever (little tightening of allen screws monthly)
Fairing given is not just cosmetic but actually functional..R15 is only current Indian that has been wind tunnel test…. fairing do makes lot of difference at higher speeds..

Quite a few ppl call R15 plastic bike etc. They do not know or don't want to know what it carries inside. That features link is good, have a look at it.

Have you checked the new Fazer out?
My 2 cents: Having ridden a RE for a while, your best bet so you don't feel like you're riding something too small is to choose between the ZMR & the ZMA. Their engines are torquey and don't need to be wound up.
Do ensure that you test ride all the bikes you have shortlisted before making your decision.
