[What Bike]: Budget upto 1L, Details in thread

It took me about a year to get good price for my TB. Now finally it is sold.
In the past year many bikes were launched and accordingly my preferences have changed.
Please fellows suggest me some thing.
I am looking forward to buy new bike.
Budget up to 1.5 lakh. 40000 will be down payment rest will be EMI
.
Dialy riding -40km (mainly city, bumpy roads, moderate traffice)
120km on weekends (smooth link road)

Bellow are the requirements.

1. Good millage(35+ will do)
2. Very reliable machine. Do not want to see service centre for any other reason but servicing.
3. Personally i love torque more then bhp?(may be because i have never had any other bike but RE's, But this can be changed if i get more fun riding my new machine)
4. Decent acceleration. Wild acc will be preferred it confidence level is high.
5. Head turner.
6. 150cc or +
7. Want to enjoy it in city as well as on highway.
8. Pillion should feel comfortable while touring.

I am fed up of my RE after sales expenses and now i want a reliable bike with minimum after sale expenses, i dont want any unexpected expense once i borrow it?

Machines i dont like are ZMR, Dazzler(no offence to owners, these machines are good but not my type).

Please guide me to right machine.

looks like u've just described a P220... which will give you everything u're looking for.

torque... an under 1 lac price-tag... 35-40 kmpl mileage... and it's pretty reliable too.

if you can wait & save up for the CBR250R by August...

then u'll get a bike that's a head turner too.

Looks like youve ruled out most options that would benefit from your budget

Since youre looking to ride 40+ kms daily in all kinds of roads , I guess you're looking for a nice smooth ride. Wild acc, head turner, low maintainance etc would be secondary I suppose. Now, you cant expect to have them all in one bike(somewhat because your couple of your criteria is subjective). Heres your options:

1> Suzuki GS150R.... I've owned one for more than 6 months now. Great comfort and smooth ride, good mileage(not on mine but its a general consensus), low maintainance(my opinion), great for highways, decent but not wild acc.
A couple of points to note would be that its apparently not very comfortable for short or skinny riders owing to its height and weight because of which some people find it hard to manage in tight traffic. Personally I find its handling brilliant (I guess its a matter of getting used to).

2> Yamaha FZ / Fazer.... Great ride and handling, good acceleration(its got the most torque among 150s), no idea on maintainance(insurance is a pickle because of the abounding fibre and plastics on it), decent on a highway, definite head turner, ok mileage.

3> TVS Apache 160/180.... Brilliant acceleration, nice handling, ok ride(lots of vibrations at higher speeds), ok mileage, a head turner if one can do something about that fairing, no idea on maintainance, no idea about highway riding.

Generally, most bikes nowadays are tough and low on general maintainance...but you might get an occasional lemon depending on your luck.

The above would be my personal preferences. Then theres the rest...

Bajaj...the pulsar and avenger 220
Yamaha SZ.... a budget 150
HH...the hunk and CBZ X.

All of these more or less fit your criteria...Id lean towards P220 among the rest but you might want to try avenger 220 since you had a RE.

Take a test drive of what you shortlist before you buy...nothing beats personal appraisal. Good luck.

It was a nice reply by 2strokerama, but I would like to redescribe EZ/Fazer and RTR180 here.

FZ/Fazer: Considered as a wonderful looking machine, also its really smooth ride, being a Yammie I don't think it requires any clarification on reliability fornt. But, I didn't find it interesting in terms of acceleration. Surely its not bad at it but not that good to count it as a good acceleration machine, let alone wild acceleration then . Also, on highway rides, its okay if you are patient enough to let it go calmly to the cruising speed once brought down due to obvious reasons. I found it to be a little lazy when it climbs above 70kmph (some might say 80+ and some might 60). However, if you want smoothness and don't go 70+ usually then its a great machine to have



RTR 180: I just love this machine (I love it not coz I own it, but I own it coz I loved it ). Reason being superb and wild acceleration, quite decently distributed torpue which pulls it effortlessly in all gears even to higher speeds. On handling front, I think its the best after R15. Mileage... I get around 38-42 depending on how did I ride it, gives 38 easily even if I ride it a bit insanely . About Highway riding, I've done trips doing 300+ kms. in single day till now on it and never had any problem. It doesn't loose acceleration even high high speeds. But, being an unbiased person, let me tell you If you can't bear the vibration thingie then don't go for it. Yes it vibrates and some people don't like it but I'm okay with it and I was quite a natural thing to adapt it for me. If I'm getting great amount of power and acceleration with this, I don't have problems.


And, I would also suggest you to consider P220 but as everybody knows and says, It may make you go round round to SVC

About Suzuki GS150, I would not comment much coz neither I own it nor did I ride it. But, as much as I heard, its a decent machine and Mr. 2strokerama described it nicely


Anyways, nice to see another Kamboj here. Generally, we don't find any Kamboj easily specially in Delhi and all.

Pulsar 220 faired or the RTR 180 abs and i guess you can tolerate rtr vibes since you are an ex bullet owner

Thanks for approval.

For me reliablity is at first place.
I just want a problem free bike but what i have experienced with RE, every single bike seems problem free.

I like 220 but i want refined machine.
I am looking for a machine which i will be retaining for atleast 7 yrs.

My minde is thinking of cbr(bit expencive) or fz(power is low) or zma dont know what to do totally conf

Guys please suggest me what to do

looks like u're stuck between a P220 and a CBR250.

i have a P180UGIII... and it's almost 6 years old now.
but it feels like it's virtually brand new.

NEVER had ANY hassles with it.

if well maintained... i don't see why a P220 won't last u 7 years.

@ TS: man, in your first post you gave the impression that you'll be holding onto it only for a short time. *need bike, urgent!!*

If youre looking for long term, better take some time and consider carefully..........Id suggest you pick a weekend or take a day's leave, get a friend or two and go for a long test drive on every option you fancy, shortlist whichever you like and come back here with the final list to get 'professional opinions'.

Anything more Id say is that the GS150R is a good candidate for a long termer. I've got nothing but good words about my bike on the refinement front.... 6th gear and engine balancer means that you can cruise on 100+ kmph and only feel minimal vibrations. The parts are damn tough even if it means some extra weight. +1 to suzuki for that. This weight also adds to the bike's stability at high speeds. And for all that weight, its actually pretty fast too. On the mileage front, while others claim as high as 60 kmpl, mine is a dismal 40kmpl. But thats probably because I rip the nuts and bolts off it....I drive it crazy! And I havent encountered anything but minor niggles in all my hard riding on it which speaks well of its toughness. There are other GS owners who ride it harder...one guy has even done a SS1600 on it, no problem. One thing that would be a put off is that theres no guarantee on good resale value. But I bet thats nothing worse than what HH is\will be now that H and H have split.

@mr. garry menace: Ive got my eyes on the RTR 180 too....especially considering Joel's work on the RTRs.
