xBhp was born more than 16 years ago and since then we've had a chance to ride or drive hundreds of machines running on two wheels or four wheels, and sometimes even three wheels. We are not done yet, and this list is still growing. In these pages, we take a deep dive in the treasure trove of our ride experiences and bring you all that we have ridden or driven.

Rewaco Pur3 GT Volcano

1.5L I4CC 177BHP N/ANM

Those of you following me on social media or keeping up with the bi-monthly dose of the xBhp Print Magazine may know that I am on a tour I call the xBhpPowerTour2024. For the past few months, I have been riding and driving some of the best and quirkiest vehicles around the world; cars, motorcycles, and anything else that piques my interest. The one in discussion here did just that so let me present to you… Rewaco Pur3 GT Volcano.

Last month, I found myself in Germany, the home of Rewaco. I had ridden and driven some amazing motorcycles and cars but I still had Rewaco on my mind. I have driven their vehicles before and always enjoyed them; this time was no different. It is sort of like a reset button for me. If you have never driven (or ridden, whatever you prefer) a trike before, I’d say that this is something you have to experience.

Rewaco means Racing Wagon and the numbers are a testament to that. We will discuss those later but I will tell you that it is quite powerful and quite sporty despite what you may think of it at first glance. I rode (or drove, whatever you prefer) the Rewaco Pur3 GT Volcano in Germany and around. The route was a mix of city, countryside, autobahn, and some winding roads as well.

With exotic materials comes exclusive status and the Acer Swift 5 has those in spades… along with stellar performance and endurance.

Let me tell you about the vehicle itself. The Rewaco Pur3 GT Volcano is a very unique vehicle. It is a trike but it is different from stuff that I have ridden before such as a Polaris Slingshot, a CanAm Spyder or even the Yamaha Niken. First thing, it has a very low ground clearance and you are sat very low as well so it feels like a supercar. But then, it has a handlebar and not a steering wheel so it feels like a motorcycle. But then, there is no counter-steering here, you have to steer in the direction you have to go which takes some getting used to.

That is the reason why the experience of driving a Rewaco is very unique. That is not to say it is not fun. It has a very lively turbocharged engine, it sticks to the ground well, it can corner hard despite its appearance and more than everything else, it is open-top. So while it has some characteristics of a car and some of a motorcycle, it drives like neither which makes the experience unique. It is like a mix of a motorcycle, a go-kart, a sports car, and a convertible car.

At first glance, the Rewaco Pur3 GT Volcano seems like something that breaks the mould of conventional vehicles. But then, considering Rewaco’s 30+ years of history producing such vehicles, it should not come as a surprise. It is aimed at providing people with a racecar-like experience in the easiest and most accessible manner possible. I know that some people might think that it looks like a vehicle for an oldie and I might be closing on being one. But then, those people should give it a try first and possibly, get their pants blown off.

Anyway, let us get to the experience. First of all… looks. I think this department is aced by the Rewaco Pur3 GT Volcano. Most of the points come from the fact that it looks so unique. As a result, it gets a lot of attention as well and there are a lot of people with an inquisitive look in their eyes. Some of the so-called pure motorcyclists might rain on that parade but mostly, the response from onlookers is very positive. Perhaps that is why Rewacos have found a fair bit of fame in Europe.

Despite the outstanding performance and the brilliant screen, the Xiaomi 14 Ultra scores incredibly in battery backup as well.

Now, what adds to the sportiness of the idea of a Rewaco trike are the add-ons. Take a look at the Rewaco Pur3 GT and you know what and who it is aimed at. With a rear diffuser, a spoiler, LED lighting all around, air scoops and outlets, and even the racing seat, it is aimed at being sporty and it pulls that off with aplomb. From some angles, its looks can rival that of many sportscars.

Another aspect that adds to Rewaco’s appeal is the customizability. There are a ton of things that can be done to enhance the appeal of the Rewaco Pur3 GT. Even if you visit Rewaco’s website, their own configurator will give you an idea of the possibilities one has in making a Rewaco truly their own. Finally, the suffix Volcano refers to the Volcano-orange colour. The Rewaco Pur3 GT Volcano is a limited edition though and only 100 units will ever be made.

For those inclined towards long hauls, there is a Touring variant as well. Overall, in terms of looks, the Rewacon Pur3 GT is a stunner and even more so in the Volcano Orange colour.

It is also loaded with a lot of tech. Climb onboard and you are greeted with a 7” multimedia display that integrates both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. From navigation to music to calls, virtually everything from your phone is available right in front of you. In addition, there is also a 5” multifunction display that serves up dynamic information such as speed, rev count, and so on.

Heated seats can also be had and keyless access is standard. Stuff such as switching on the ignition and opening the trunk and seat can be done with the handheld transmitter. Additionally, you get a USB port in the front and the trunk, a rearview mirror with blind spot field of vision, a reversing camera, a reversing alarm, cruise control, and a 2-speaker sound system.

Now coming to the ride or drive, it is a little strange at first. You hold on to the handlebar like a motorcycle but you actually sit in the Rewaco rather than on it. Now, with the handlebar, you have a front wheel that you control but on the rear, you have two wheels wrapped in massive 19” 305 mm tyres! This again is something you have to get used to especially if you ride a lot of motorcycles. You have to rewire your brain to keep the rear in mind so that you do not accidentally hit something.

Once you are settled in, you realise that the view from the seat is quite amazing. Because you are sat low and have a handlebar to control the vehicle, the position feels very commanding. On the move, the experience in the cockpit is exhilarating. You are sitting like you are in a car and yet, you have the wind in your face which accentuates the experience of piloting a Rewaco.

The sound from the turbocharged engine makes you want to rev it over and over again just to hear it sing. It makes for a very engaging experience. Even more so when you pick up the pace and trust us, the Rewaco Pur3 GT Volcano is good for a serious pace… even on the Autobahn. And the best bit is that it feels even faster than it is going! Talking about the engine, we have a turbocharged 1.5-litre inline-4 engine from Mitsubishi. It makes 177 bhp of power and while it is not a supercar, it is still plenty rapid, especially in Sport mode.

The Rewaco Pur3 GT Volcano feels unique in the corners as well. You have handlebars but you do not counter-steer like a motorcycle. You have to steer in the direction you have to go in. It takes some getting used to but once you do, it becomes easier and easier to push harder and harder. The confidence you have in the corners is amazing and the g-forces you feel make you want to push it further still.

This is what I meant when I said that one should not mistake it as something meant for older people. You can really thrash it around the corners and it is properly fun to do that. Since you are sitting so low and handling the thing with handlebars, the experience is even more engaging. It also gets adaptive suspension which makes it poised in the corners and comfortable over rougher roads. Finally, you get ABS as well to keep things nice and safe.

Overall, my time with the Rewaco Pur3 GT Volcano was a ton of fun. It is not far-fetched to assume that a few car guys might take an issue with the idea of a Rewaco. The same goes for many motorcycle guys. Personally, I do not have any. It is powerful, punchy fast, sounds awesome, and can go around the corners with a lot of fervour. And for what it is worth, it gets a lot of attention as well. The bottom line is that Rewacos are meant to be fun and if that is what you are looking for, some unique kind of vehicular fun, the Rewaco is more than capable of taking care of that.

Following are some photos from the beautiful locations I visited while piloting the Rewaco Pur3 GT Volcano.
