Re: How to select a bicycle according to your needs and budget?
Brands really don't matter all that much in cycles. Firefox is owned by Hero ad Montra is a Hercules brand. Both are okay. The bikes sold directly under the Hercules and Hero labels would probably be a bit cheaper. Btwin by Decathlon is another brand you can get in your budget. Do go and check out these bikes and ride them, shortlist a few and then decide.Originally posted by roamer View PostBiking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

Re: How to select a bicycle according to your needs and budget?
Hi Kaushik
How is your Munich 21 speed doing? It has been one month now, so I guess you must have figured out the pro and cons of it. I am planning to have test ride on that in a day or two. Strangely, most cycle dealers have that cycle but have not assembled them, may be it is not in demand much in my area.
But I feel this bike is what I will go for in the end. I wanted single speed but it comes in 'M' size, I am 6ft 1, did not enjoy my test ride on it.
Do let me know buddy if it is a good one to go for from your experience. I plan to buy my first bike within the next 7 days and I am narrowing it between Cosmic Shuffle and Mach City Munich after test riding them.
I reviewed about this bike from this link
Thanks
Krish

. Anyway after the failed attempt & trying to figure out if I could again commute on the Fixe I finally pulled the trigger on my Birthday 27th Dec!
I went to the shop with the intention of buying the Mach iBike 7s but then one sitting on the Munich made me feel much more at home than on the the iBike. The only sense I can make of this is Geometry, I think I just don't feel right about the way MTB feels. Probably many many years of just road riding has made a muscle memory such that MTB just feels different even though if I size it right.
Anyway so the Machcity Munich it is. It was only after buying I realized that there was a single speed version as well!! Anyway I'm not really regretting, since the 21s version has semi-horizontal drops which means it can be converted when required
.
A pic is in order but don't have my phone with me now.

There are many cycles in that range. You would probably want to go for a hybrid cycle for your commuting needs. There is no such thing as a perfect bikeOriginally posted by Insomnia View PostIm looking for my first premium bicycle for my regular office commute in well paved tarmac road with no offroading/trails, Ive a budget of Rs20-25K INR. Which city do you live in? Which bikes/ brands are available in your city? Let us know, it will be easier to narrow down your choices. Cheers

I'm looking to buy online as I live in Raipur (chhattisgarh) and there are not many brands and shops selling premium brand bikes are available. Please suggest the most suitable one for me.Originally posted by The Monk View PostThere are many cycles in that range. You would probably want to go for a hybrid cycle for your commuting needs. I know of a friend who lives in Bhillai. He says that there is a suncross dealer, who deals with the following brands.
Raleigh
LaPierre
Ghost
Totem
Upland
HaiBike
Suncross Bikes - International Biking Experience in India.
My advice would be to go to him and actually check out his stock, take a couple of test rides.

What Hyper said.
If you still need to buy online, think Decathlon. You will of course have to assemble the bike yourself.Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

Re: How to select a bicycle according to your needs and budget?
This is a real entry level bike. So you will get what you pay for.
As a thumb rule, most shopkeepers give anywhere between 10-20% discounts on cycles and accessories. So compare the MRP of the bike with the price you are getting it at.
Also, some of them might give a bottle cage/ kickstand/ bottle etc. complimentary.Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

Do it make it bad? Is there anyt better option? I also took a look at Lareigh Avalanch costs about 25k. What do you advise?Originally posted by The Monk View PostThis is a real entry level bike. So you will get what you pay for.
Yes, 2 servicing, accessories are given free and 16500INR is the MRP, they are providing 10% discount. As a thumb rule, most shopkeepers give anywhere between 10-20% discounts on cycles and accessories. So compare the MRP of the bike with the price you are getting it at.

Re: How to select a bicycle according to your needs and budget?
It is not so much that it is a bad bike. It is just that at this price point, this is the kind of bike you will get. Different brands will give a little extra here and a little less there, but overall the bikes will be more or less similar.Originally posted by Insomnia View PostDo it make it bad? Another thing is, you need to buy a bike which is available in your city. It doesn't matter if there is a fantastic deal in some other place. It helps in the long run to have a bike shop where you can go for repairs and adjustments.Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

The dealer told me this the best bike in the price point, next model he showed me Raleigh Avalanche costs about 25k which is hybrid. Do you have any alternatives that I should look for in the price point?Originally posted by The Monk View PostIt is not so much that it is a bad bike. Re: How to select a bicycle according to your needs and budget?
I would suggest getting something much cheaper like the BSA Mach City, which is simple and will work well. I don't know what's available in your city, but you can check out Montra bikes as well.Originally posted by Insomnia View PostThe dealer told me this the best bike in the price point, next model he showed me Raleigh Avalanche costs about 25k which is hybrid.
