A big congrats to Bajaj for bringing another great bike to the Indian market. Hope they do well.
A very good job done by the team to ensure a awesome bike gets a fantastic review. Though for me xBhp review will not be complete until I get to read about the bike in OF's words.
Thanks to Sunny, MG and Sunil for such painstaking attention to detail in the review. Its better to be a day late, than to have anything short of awesome
Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!
Give your details here if you want to help your fellow xBhpian stranded in your city

Wow you say it sounds like an RTR160Fi
Honestly I felt it was one of the best sounding bikes India but lacked the spirit when it came to performance, r15 sounds good at high revs, pulsar has the grunt but then hmmm lacks something overall .... Guess The KTM 200 recipe is just getting tastier and tastier as the discussions move forward. Nice home work by the Bajaj-KTM(mostly KTM ofcourse) in analyzing the check lists ..
Its like KTM was in Austria and one fine day they met ( Bajaj-KTM)....Love at first sight with 39% stake, Bajaj asked KTM to move in and KTM said YES ! becoz of which KTM moved to India.... I dont know how many months later, Duke200 was born in Pune
.... from what is revealed so far and looking at where they are heading in this relationship, I can pretty much surely say that
they will live happily ever after
Now last question, what is the price figures ? ...tour-master on exile

Thanks and Thats called humourOriginally posted by neil.jericho View PostNice review. Definitely the best article posted by xbhp to date. Now I need to get my hands on the bike to see if it is as good as what you guys say it is
One thing I didnt get though - the whole cop, thug, fat 40 year old part, at the end. That had me scratching my head.

Let other electronic & print media fellows come up with their 0-100 runs of the 200. The 200 is radically & nicely different from its plastic brethren.
It would have been nice from BAL to update the figures with that of N-250R's.
I am sure the engineers will park the figures of KTM between the N-250R & CBR-250R if given a free hand. Have a look at the R15's 0-100 timings from BAL.
Thumbs down.
As part of responsible journalism, a disclaimer should have been put up when review was made on-line.
Super photos
Exactly my thoughts. I wonder from where Bajaj landed up with those figs!!Originally posted by bprags View PostI am still kinda dissappointed with the 0 -100 kmph figures, I expected them to be in the 8.xx range. The power to weight ratio and the short gearing should have helped it acheive that. I would take the CBR 0 to 100 kmph with a pinch of salt, that is the slowest 0 to 100 kmph I have read for the CBR across all reviews and this figure has come from Bajaj
.
As per the figs, KTM200 is not as quick or fast as some of us were expecting it to be, especially when you have a 4V/DOHC/Short-Stroke/Ultra-short geared motor spewing out 25 PS of power on a feather light setup. Seriously 184PS/tonne is one mad figure for anyone and i had high hopes from this powerplant, but sadly BAL/KTM ruined my hopes. The only saving grace is the roll-on figs which are impressive and the handling/braking which i believe would be top-notch.
The upcoming Pulsar can be safely assumed as a modern alternative to the P220 DTSi and i am hardly expecting any bump in terms of engine performance except for may be in refinement stakes.
But then again, hopefully KTM will open up a new chapter in Indian motorcycling. Let's hope other manufacturers too jump in the race.
I still consider this as a very good second bike if i had a >250cc bike parked besides it in my garage.Originally posted by KwokFist View PostIt is still not a substitute for my current ride. It's a good second bike from what I've been told from someone who has ridden it. It has its merits but it is not a replacement.
And again let me reiterate my heartiest wishes for Sunny & Co for pulling out a stonker of a review. Two thumps up!!

I am sure BAL would have tested(themselves or by someone else) the bikes (r15, cbr & ktm) before publishing those numbers else Yamaha/Honda can easily file a case against BAL.Originally posted by sheelpriyeI am sure the engineers will park the figures of KTM between the N-250R & CBR-250R if given a free hand. Even in case of bikes tested by various mag's there is a big enough difference between the numbers for r15 and cbr.
So, lets not worry about these numbers unless someone plans to go racing.
2000 Suzuki Fiero | 2004 Bullet Electra | 2004 RX135 | 2005 CBZ | 2009 Karizma | 2009 Punto 1.4 Petrol | 2011 Yamaha YZF-R15

I feel it should sound more like its little brother KTM125.Originally posted by MG View PostThe closest I can associate the Duke 200 exhaust note will be with "RTR 160 Fi"
And guys, this report is the most precise and 'straight from the heart' report I've ever read, kudos to xbhp, I am a fan now
Just spilling one little unanswered bit off my soul, during the initial feast, they served you with 3 kinds of Duke (orange, naked and handsome), are these 3 distinct flavors of KTM200, which are planned for release ?

It's the same bike. One is without any accessories. One is with few accessories and the last one with all of the accessories installed.Originally posted by premson View PostJust spilling one little unanswered bit off my soul, during the initial feast, they served you with 3 kinds of Duke (orange, naked and handsome), are these 3 distinct flavors of KTM200, which are planned for release ?

That's awesome news, will certainly help people make up their minds to go for Duke 200.Originally posted by MG View PostJust in - Some Clarification on the peak power and rev limiter
The vehicle given for testing is still under calibration and the final product that will hit the market will have its rev limiter somewhere around the 11k mark. So the peak power will come at 10k while the rev limiter will kick in somewhere around 11k rpm.
After so many days, I've seen so many xbhpians getting excited about a new bike. Looking at the way this thread is going, Bajaj sure seems to have a winner in their hands.
Thanks for making those pictures inline now, they exude quality all around.
Last time I bought a bike after reading first impression on P135LS, didn't regret it. Now, after this first impression on XBHP, Duke 200 seems to be my next bike.Last edited by vrugonnab; 12-09-2011, 02:18 AM.Let's bring down the monster of corruption to it's knees.. please visit http://ipaidabribe.com/

all i wanna see is how will the bike looks on tall height-ed riders
cos am 6, and apache rtr doesn't suit me for my height
so just wanted to check the same with Duke
cos if it doesnt, then ill settle with p220, rather then waiting till jan!

Superb Review!!!
@Sunny & MG:-
Amazing pictures and even better words to describe your experience with the Duke!!! And I'm sure your words won't do much justice to actually riding this bike!!! I got so excited and pumped to buy this bike that i went out and did this...to my once matt black Vega off road helmet!!! All in anticipation of the KTM 200 DUKE!!! I think it'll go nice with the Orange ;-)
Also do tell us if its just the Orange that will be doing the rounds in India coz We have all seen the Black and green colored KTM too so will that be an option or will it mean a longer wait time perhaps?
And damn those accessories are expensive but i definitly wanna buy the rear fender eliminator and those tank LEDS!!! its so Unheard off!!! Also does anyone know the RON rating of Power Petrol from HP? i use it now in My pulsar 135...Last edited by joshzma225; 12-09-2011, 04:04 AM.Speed, it seems to me, provides the one genuinely modern pleasure.
