      • Test ride

Just had a test ride of the bike. The power is distributed evenly. Quick throttle, you will be in a different world. Light weight, good power, low profile (the crowd generally biased over bikes with huge fairing). Just wish the breaks were bit more sharp (not sure if it is the test bike's fault because it has done some 450kms only)

Just went to checkup and now completely in love with it. What do you guys think on buying this bike as an upgrade to Apache rtr 160? For 1.33L (OTR chennai), I feel it is a steal. Waiting period is just 90days.

P.S - I felt slight vibration. Is that common or something wrong with the test bike? The sales manager was telling me someone dropped the bike while testing it.

          • Duke 200 - Test Drive done @ PBK - Bangalore on 18th Feb

            Guys,

I did the TD of Duke on Saturday (18th Feb) @ PBK Indranagar Showroom in Bangalore. Was there at 10:15am so not many people were there. Infact the showroom was just opening and had to wait for 30 min for the Duke to be washed and refueled! During this time TD formalities were completed.

My wife was with me for the TD, I specifically wanted her to feel the pillion comfort before i book the bike.

Currently i have a ZMR and she sometimes complains that rear seat is cramped!

By the way below is my feedback on the TD:

            * TD was taken by me with my wife sitting in the pillion seat.
            * Its definetly a good looker. My Wife liked the thick rear wheel a lot.
            * Tank is huge!
            * Rider Sitting posture is comfortable but I felt the foot rest little back when compared to ZMR. Riding stance is forward facing different when compared to ZMR.
            * Gear & Brake Levers are tiny!! just by looking at them i was wondering how many times i will miss them during the TD. But i didnt. Though they looked tiny and small, I was able to reach them when needed. May be my mind already knew it was small so made the extra effort not to miss it. I was wearing a Woodlands shoes and i definetly thought i will miss it.
            * Bike is very light easy to ride in traffic.
            * Exhaust note is different. At low RPM's it feels like a TVS Luna sound but when you start Revving it the sound becomes better.
            * FE was showing 18KMPL before i took the TD & once my TD was done it was showing 19KMPL
            * Console looks good but RPM & Fuel display is tiny!
            * Pillion seat is small. My wife didnt like it at all. After sitting in Duke she felt ZMR pillion seat is a Sofa!

Overall the bike needs to be driven in high RPM's to enjoy!

Pillion comfort is a big let down for me. My Duke dreams are gone now

As of 18th Feb morning there were 260 bookings done in Bangalore.

Once the Duke TD was done i took the Ninja 250 TD. My wife liked the Ninja pillion seat better compared to Duke's!

Even i had a TD yesterday. Agree to all your points except one -
In my case, the console was showing 21 KmpL. I switched off the engine & started again & covered ~ 2-3 kms. The new reading was 35 KmpL.
I guess in your case, you might have been revving it hard or someone before you might have done that.

It has Fuel Injection so no fuel tap.

                    • Duke 200 TD

I took TD on Saturday. The bike is definitely quickkkkkk and good for city ride.

I wanted a fun bike for everyday office communting, without worrying about the bike underneath. So basically a quick and light ride with soft suspension.

Rear suspension felt good, but front suspesnion are hard and I feel it will shake hands on potholes and gravel roads.

I would like to know about others openion on bike's suspension.

Thanks for the reply. I feel duke is pretty comfortable. And comparing it with 200NS, the later is heavier, and taller seating position (from the pics). I am a short rider and I feel duke just has the right height and weight. I am not sure whether I should go for Duke, or should I go for CBR. I love CBR too. It would be great if someone can throw some light. Bike is for city and highway rides (office 50kms from home having both city and highway roads). I want a bike that is easier to maneuver in traffic and surprises me in highways.
                          Thanks

duke will be easier to maneuver in traffic and cbr will surprise you on highways.but i am really concerned about the mileage of duke, someone here reported 19 kmpl while test riding.that would definitely go up after proper run-in but to how much extent,i wonder.

FE of 19 Kmpl might be on TD which is constantly revved hard by visitors... Sane driving might fetch ~ 35 KmpL

                              • With the collective TD report it seems KTM 200 is really going to be an exclusive bike. Reckon once there were exclusive RX100s when SplendoRs were mass selling. KTM 200 is seems to be an upgraded RX100 with similar behaviour of being quick and light. With this short revving nature the rider may not love to do constant high-rev on highways.
The initial no of bookings were huge as many of the exclusivity lovers have already booked it. Expecting the later sales to move slower and P200NS to be mass selling. Bajaj is their own competition now.
