Re: Crazy comments u heard about bikes
I've experienced the same with MT when I was working at Kochi, people who own exorbitantly high priced phones made fun of me for investing 6.5k on a helmet but over the time I've somehow adapted and learnt to ignore such comments, but that wasn't it! I recently shifted to Trivandrum, and since I've been wanting to own a CT100 for a long time I got one as well along with a new Bell Qualifier, people at work are now concerned about my mental well being because the ideal thing they would've done is to settle fora cheaper helmet and invest the 10K spent on the Bell to opt for a better motorcycle. I did put in effort to convince them, but **** it! Commoners just wont understand!Originally posted by ZZR1 View PostPeople are astonished at the cost of my helmet. They feel that i was a moron to pay Rs.6500 for a helmet.
A guy curiously looking at my MT helmet starts a conversation :
Guy : What does your helmet cost ?
Me : Rs.6500
Guy :
..You can get a helmet for Rs.300/-. why spend so much on helmet.
Me: Safety
Guy : After all your life depends on luck !!
Me: Now changing my argument...why did u pay 70000 for an iphone when u can get a micromax with same features for 7000.
Guy : Brand name and quality dude.
Me : Exactly!! You are a phone freak and am a bike freak.
Guy did not seem convinced.Motorcycling Experience:

Re: Crazy comments u heard about bikes
My Saturday/Sunday night ritual consists of washing my bike and lubing the chain. More often than not, I would be in shorts with really shabby T-shirt (my weekend attire
). One day a gentleman who was new in building asked me how much will I charge to clean his bike.
I said Rs 4,000 per week. He said something of the effect of WTF? I said yes, I am a highly qualified washerman having done my MBA from IIM Lucknow.
Was really funny to look at his face when he realized what I was talking about.
Riding a bike is like flying.... All your senses are alive...

Re: Crazy comments u heard about bikes
Ahh!! The bell qualifier. You must be the guy who posted the review of CT100 on team-bhp. CT100s and Bell (any other high end helmets ) are certainly a rarity and an extreme one at that. In fact the first thing i thought when i came across your review was that..." This guy perhaps has a more powerful bike, and hence the bell"Originally posted by ashwinprakas View PostI've experienced the same with MT when I was working at Kochi, people who own exorbitantly high priced phones made fun of me for investing 6.5k on a helmet but over the time I've somehow adapted and learnt to ignore such comments, but that wasn't it! I've got a P220 that has been souped up with goodies from Sahyadri, Mumbai but I seldom use it as most of my commutes these days are intra-state. Plus I'm as passionate about the CT100B as any hardcore RE guy is about his Bullet, I was planning on getting it for more than a year before I could actually buy it.
As far as safety is concerned my next addon is a pair of Acerbis Handguards for the CT100B, I've already sourced them, but I'm yet to install. Would put up pics once I do.

Re: Crazy comments u heard about bikes
my neighbors know me as a bike freak, common around here I guess, some were talking of my marriage with my bike to my mom!!!!!
It so happened that one of my neighbors picked a new bike, BS4, headlamp on, he thought that the bike has some issue and asked me, so I explained him that the headlight on is a safety feature and blah blah, dude traveled a lot to the USA and all, but whatever, he called up the showroom guy to confirm if I was telling the truth and he was kind off satisfied..
a couple of statements he said:
"doesn't that waste the electricity?? I mean, c'mon, why would you need your headlamp on to be visible on broad daylight"
"it's not like it's foggy here or we're living in some hill station that's foggy"
"this is a stupid feature"
while on a different occasion I met one dude at night 9.30 riding around without his headlamp on, when asked what's up? his response:
"well, simply, just like that, I don't use headlight ever...!!"
and then we got hordes of folks using high beam everywhere in this city!!!!

TBH, in my whole 2.5 years of ownership, I had a pillion just under 10 rides in all the 100s that I went.... that too they were complaining like crazy.. so hell with it yeah!!!!

Re: Crazy comments u heard about bikes
My first comment here at xbhp.
Once I was in my first love rx-135 with roots horn. Was honking the whole road just to keep pests away from my way. Suddenly a mid aged woman on her new scooty pushes her indicators and takes a sharp right . I was just overtaking her and then hit her at 50+. She fell and over her the scooty and me too.
I stood up and shouted wouldn't you look whether anybody is coming behind before you turn.
Then comes a shock from a novice
"Why should I see"
I started bursting in laughter then later rolled my rx135 to my mechanic friend and left home.
These women are always to be watched for, they're like a Pandora's Box, anything can burst from their brains....

Re: Crazy comments u heard about bikes
My house is on the main road so most of the time it is clogged with traffic even sometimes a human being cannot pass through, once I got caught up in the Jam and I decided to go by small street and I saw two girls coming on entrance of the street and both girls were busy gossiping and drinking some type of shake, so seeing that I honked twice so that they know but they did not gave a damn and both the girls stopped with a distance of one inch from my handlebar. Girl: Arre chadaoge get kya (will you run over us)
Me: Dikhta nahin hai kya(can't you see)
Girl: Arre chadaoge kya
Me: Dekhoge nahin toh Chad he jaayegi (if you will not see you will definitely get run over)
And I left the scene as I was getting late.
Second scene
I was traveling with a pillion with 20kmph on odometer because it was a type of U bend and I saw a 12 year old guy speeding his TVS Vicky I honked him twice but this guy was thinking to just bang into me so i stopped 1 metre back and this guy just did a U type skid whatever we call in front of me as it was a really scary situation and he stopped then I asked him
Me: Are you out of your brains.
He: smiled
I Became more angry
Me: driving with no sense on road.
He: toh kya ho gaya jao na(what happened go now)
Me: slapped him.
I tried to teach him politely but he was just too arrogant.
Mods please feel free to delete.
Third case
My bike is BSIV and it is AHO obviously and i bought this bike at the time when you could barely see any two wheeler with AHO so I used to get the gesture commonly, I would call it as squeezing fruit so I just used to nod my head that I know what you are saying as I don't have the patience to make people understand what the feature is and once I was on a road which is mostly empty and this gentlemen was coming on an Aviator from opposite side
First, he gave me a dipper two times
Second, he gestured
Third, I nodded as usual
Fourth, He just came so much in my Lane to make me understand that I had to go off road to let this gentleman go or we would have crashed.Last edited by revvharder; 06-09-2017, 08:22 PM.

Re: Crazy comments u heard about bikes
Last day was having dinner with my sister and her friends. Was telling about my new agv helmet and told the price. My sis friend was like, why you want to spend this much. Then i explained about the riding gears n its safety for almost 15 mins
But it was like pouring ink in sea water.. no change, she is telling its just show off... Jackets n helmets...

Re: Crazy comments u heard about bikes
Most times about the gears!
I recently got a Bell Qualifier, this one colleague of mine who feels he is some distant cousin of Harvey Specter (usually dressed up in designer clothes and wears Rolex), asks why did you buy this new one, did you have an accident that you had to replace your other helmet. When I told him that the old was already 4 years in running and that's the end of its life, he was quite puzzled. And then the famous - "how much is it for" question. You know I am not as terrified of relatives asking me "Beta shadi kab kar rahe ho" as I am of being asked how much for the gears. In a very Ekta Kapoor TV show style - all heads turned in my direction when I announced the price reluctantly and almost everyone in my small office came to my seat to touch and feel the helmet. Anyone familiar with Bell knows that the visor is quite expensive and man was I breathless to see a horde of my colleagues fiddling with my lid, extremely worried about its safety. In the end, after the monsters satisfied themselves, I inspected the lid and sighed. The entire day I had to answer why did I spend so much, whats so special. The Rolex guy asked very seriously "ki itne me head massager bhi hota hoga in built, nahi".
I left early from work that day :P

My usual answer to anyone giving me a hard time about the price of my helmet is to tell them it's still cheaper than a new head.
And someone else here actually has, as their tagline, a version the aphorism about "if you have a cheap head, buy a cheap helmet".
Just lecturing a non-biker about how important proper safety gear is, is just going to cause their eyes to glaze over. You have to frame your answer in a way that makes them think about the helmet/jacket/boots in terms of an actual risk. This gets them past the hurdle of believing all riding gear is nothing more than fashion.ATGATT: All The Gear, All The Time!
