I beg to differ slightly here. Most rash riding by ladies takes place because they consider their puny scooters EQUAL to the motorcycles that men ride. Yes, their scooters can accelerate as fast as a motorcycle, but neither can it brake as quick, nor is it as stable. So yeah, a college going girl gets her first Activa, she sees people around her going twice as fast, she tries to speed up and her bike is capable enough of doing that - and then she forgets all else. This speed becomes a habit, but other etiquette are never taught or followed. (eg. safe, steady lane changes with proper indication is something I very rarely see in an average lady rider. They always go in a panicky, zigzag manner, and you can never predict where they will swerve next). This is the most usual scenario.

In my opinion, they need to be educated about the limitations of their little machines and the style of riding it is designed to support. They need to be educated on road etiquette. I can confidently say that the average office-going male commuter in Bangalore is decent enough to indicate lane changes and carry out smooth lane transitions. Why can't we say the female riders come to that level at the very least? We do have lady bikers going on long rides on REs and Avengers and FZs. If a female has a love for speed, let her enjoy it on a machine which is designed to be fast, and on a road where it is safe to go fast. On my part I'd say it's irksome when you are commuting at 60 and a lady buzzes ahead of you and suddenly steps into your lane without warning.

Biking is not about how many Km/h you put on your Speedo. It's about how many miles you put on your Odo. Ride Safe, Ride Long!

You mixed college going girls and office going men!

Most office going girls ride in a decent manner. Yes, they don't indicate and few don't even wear a helmet. They're happy being talibanis!
The thing is bikes are never positioned for a female in our country. Else, its always an Avenger for them. Why?

I'm not taking sides for their rash riding and unruly lane changes and blaming-you-despite-their-fault attitude, all I'm saying is that an average Indian male must accept the fact that a lady can drive/ride whatever he can and hence, he must respectfully share the space.

Ettiquette needs to be imparted to both parties.
      Got a $5 head? Get a $5 helmet.

I'll still differ on this opinion. Even aunties are unreliable. But yes, there are exceptions to both sides. There are college students who ride responsibly too.

I'd say, this is only a mental block. Internationally, female riders as short as 5'3" ride the CB500X and even the CRF series which has a massive 38" seat height. So yes, an average Indian girl can definitely ride a the average motorcycle - most of the bikes here are barely taller than 30" at the seating level. And don't we have our own group of RE riding girls in Bangalore?

I will endorse this view. But I'd add that that in return, the ladies should also respect the space given to them by bringing themselves up to the minimum expected etiquette.

I recently bought a Pulsar 200 NS. After taking the delivery I went directly to the temple with my mother. There the Panditji (Priest) started enquiring about my bike.
He asked how much cc and what mileage etc etc..
Then he went towards the front of the bike for making the Satiya and he said "Are ye to chidiya lag rhi hai bilkul"
            (This seems like a bird)

I burst into laughter. And thought in mind that i thought of the bike as a Bull but others see it like a bird.

Another one on the fairer sex...

Me getting 220's tank filled at a bunk. A kinda cute girl with a hefty friend at the rear seat pull up near me. The front wheel of her scooty pep stopped square on my right foot. Girl didnt even realize it. I kept looking at smiling at her. Paid the bill and still kept smiling. The ftiend got down and started scolding me asked me to move out of the way, I very politely asked how. She said dont try to be smart. I pointed to the front wheel and both were red faced.. Then the sorries began. I just smiled and pulled away.

There is this colleague of mine who liked calling herself a biker for a span of time. Used to ride a Pulsar 150 then. One day she asks me whether Royal Enfield manufactures the R15. :-p

I was riding my bike down a flyover at about 50 kmph then suddenly a hundai verna spins around wheels locked and hits the divider pieces of a bumper go flying I see broken glass and flying headlamps... I try to stop nd some how stop hitting the drivers side door.... I don't fall down..... a crowd erupts around the car I open the drivers side door and a screeming girl on a golden I phone with the pinkest clothes comes out and starts jumping and shouting....in happiness..... looks at the crowd and the mess cancels the call...
Looks at me disgusted,...sits in her car starts it...somehow after 2 to 3 cranks and drives off rear bumper scraping..... people disperse nd I too ride off.... I still did not understand what happened that day,...
Why are these kind of people awarded cars? Just cause they can afford one?? Its like giving them a 100 hp 1 ton wepon,..

One more incident... im standing in a red light and the signal turns green I slowly start off behind a car.... go to its right and increase my speed to overtake it.. suddenly the passenger rear door swings open and I hit it nd fall down,,. The car stops just ahead,,. The male driver comes out kicks my bike and 2 or 3 elderly ladies follow... shouting "dikhai nahi deta road ke bich mein darwaza khol re hai kuch fekne ke liye" I get up trying to reason that you could have used the window... and wack... the guys smacks my head ( still in a fullface helmet),,... pissed off I head butt the driver full force still wearing the helmet.... blood streams down his face and nose and a crowd gathers.... the crowd shouts bike dekhe awaz suniye (free flow exhaust) and ask me to leave.... I pick up my bike and leave,,...wondering why da fck it happens to me.....

I mean elderly ladies hai so they cant be wrong??
Why is the public against us bikers??? Trust me bikers ride more safely than car drivers because of the risks involved..... sometimes it just feels bad and disrespectful.,...

I have given lifts to old people wading waterlogged steets on my bike when people in cars have splashed water on them and moved passed without notice, I have stopped to help injured animals on the road when they have been hit by a car or any other vehicle.
I have given policeman lifts and I have even helped a stranded pizza delivery biker deliver pizza, I have helped students reach exam halls when there is no transport available.... I have given joy rides to street side kids and bought them my old clothes and bike toys... no one sees all these things.... a loud exhaust biker is always a menace it dont matter if hez at 20kmph or 120

India is a country which highly inflexible, and highly illogical norms. They see hooligans riding bikes in movies and conclude that every guy who rides anything apart from a aam janta 100cc "bike" a hooligan. The problem of car vs bike is even worse. My mum's driver always keeps complaining that why are people wearing helmets because according to him helmet makes vision narrow and makes riders deff. He always keeps shouting that he will someday get a truck and run over every helmet wearing rider on the road.

The attitude of elders is no more matured than this guy. My friend's jijaji (brother-in-law), everytime he sees me wearing a helmet, he asks me "checking ho rahi hai kya?"(are the cops checking for helmet?) I politely replied one day that when you ride a bike you should wear a helmet for your sake because its your head, not the police department's. Then his wife, my friend's sister appeared and said "ye bohot tez gadi chalata hai na, isliye pehnta hai"(he rides very fast, thats why he wears a helmet). I felt offended and just rode off. Somehow wearing a helmet makes me a rash rider. However, jijaji, who cant even swing his leg properly on a cd-delux, because he was riding a chetak all his life, never touched 4th gear even in a scooter, cant even brake if his life depended on it, is a safe and responsible rider.:banghead::banghead:

Anyway the incident was Funny(?) or not it's upto you people. Today being a Saturday I always have some customer meetings to do.At South Kolkata Balygunge Xing i was coming with my electra at 60+ speed cause signal just gone green and one Kind idiot on his I20 felt he have to throw his panmasala spit on road and opened his door and next thing I can recall his wobbling door and a broken RVM and I'm checking sky...and the driver want to act smart.Put my bike on center stand taken off my helmet(I'm having a crew cut hair with a handle bar mustache) limped to the driver grab him by his color and ask him to pay me!!!( ) cause u damaged my bike's color and my right side RVM gone.. and if you are not paying I'm taking you to standing Sergent of Kolkata Police( Who was just looking at the incident). People gathered by this time and all are up arms against the I20 driver "why you oppened the door on Xing and bullet guys are good guys and he is from Army we know(???) pay him now" etc etc.I20 driver suddenly felt he need to go some where and rushed off with his tangling RVM and then KP Sergent came asked me whether I'm OK etc, thanked him and I too pushed off from the SIN.
