Don't know if its posted before, but here's what I remembered from the (again) old XBHP jokes thread.

(Some time < 2008, since it was from the initial few pages)

2 blokes were discussing about the 'then' newly launched Bajaj Pulsar 150 DTSi.
The smarty pants had his expert opinion: Bajaj Pulsar 150 DTSi has 1000cc and 150 is the amount of DTSi in it!

        ------------------
Now, what on earth is '150 amount of DTSi'?
        Got a $5 head? Get a $5 helmet.

Yesterday i had been to my client's office in Kandivali.

I entered the office, removed my Spartan Icarus Jacket, Cramster Gloves and left them at the reception along with my LS2 lid.

Went upstairs, had a word with client and was ready to leave when the client said that he is also coming down for a smoke.

Went with him and collected my gear from the reception. Looking at the gear he asked me what bike do i ride and why so much gear. Told him abt the safety part and my ride (Yamaha SS 125) which he was not able to visualize. So went downstairs and showed him the bike.

His reaction: yeh Bike !!! is pey sey gir k bhi koi tutta marta hai kya? nahi rey. Kyun itna darr k jeeta hai. agar bullet hoti to samaj sakta tha. (This Bike !!!. I dont think so that any body will die if he falls from this bike. Why live so scared. I can understand if it would have been a bullet)

You should have left before he even finished his cigarette.

Seriously when will the indian mindset change about safety gear on bikes. Atleast a helmet dude! And the most probable reason for them is that they cannot show off as there faces aren't visible in a helmet..

Even from that perspective, I think a fully geared up biker looks way better

@Deathmate.Zed: Cant do that...After all he is my client. Also, I am used to such comments and stares. I daily commute from Borivali to Andheri (To and Fro) in peak traffic hours and people stare as if i am an alien.

The Indian mindset will never change. Here people wear helmet with faces as it is a rule and not for safety. That too they will wear only if there are cops...else the helmet is an object for dandling on the mirror or on their elbow.

I have seen people wearing helmets literally plastered with brown cello tapes/ cricket helmets/ safety helmets used on construction sites...just for the sake of wearing a helmet and not getting caught and because it is called a HELMET.

And yes: a Fully geared up biker looks better any time and in that case, I am always in Black shoes, Black trouser, Black Jacket, Black and red LS2 on a Black & Red Yamaha SS 125...so obviously: people term it as show off.

Yeah we cannot avoid such people always. Reminds me of my manager's BS comments on my bike and gear

And about make-shift motorcycle helmets that's funny actually! Reminds me of an ad in which guy wears a half-cut watermelon as a helmet to escape the cop's fine

Although your client is a well educated man, that's how their mentality are. For these people gears only meant for bullet(biggest bike in his assumption). Be what you are!

Im writing this because a couple of posts up i read something about peoples outlook about riding gear.

I was riding my bike one day in the hot summer inside city limits there where some riots going on and a policeman asks for a lift. I give it to him and drop him about 2 kms ahead. After getting down he asks me what is that? Pointing at my elbow guards and kneecaps I tell him what they are and that I always wear them and my helmet. He says show me your licence and papers and his fellow policeman there surround me. They ask me if I am wearing that cause I was involved in the riots back then!! I tell them where im from and where im going and they check my papers and finally tell me im getting a fine because im not wearing shoes while riding a bike,....

They dont know what riding gear is and harang me for , half an hour claiming im involved in the riots because im wearing and these are my protection gear and yet im fined for not wearing shoes while riding a bike!!

Ps:- I was wearing sandles because shoes are difficult to open in a mandir and laces are a mess.

It isn't a crime as per law (i think)

But one should never ride with sandals. Make shoes as imprptant as helmet. Our ankles are most hurt in case of a fall.

                              Ride safe and have fun.

Yep no more sandle riding for me....and definitely no free rides to cops!
And yes its not against the law to ride without shoes. Hell people in india ride bikes without pants! (Read pandits on dhotis!) But police here in kolkata find reasons to fine ypu. If your papers are ok the wil start checking your helmet for isi mark and your shoes. If they find nothing still they will mock you and try to pick a fight. If all else fails and your calm as the himalays then maybe you can go freely abeit with a lot of wasted time.
