It is 512kbps and not 256kbps...they revised their plans a few months ago... discard your connection and apply for a new UL750 Plus plan...you'll have 512Kbps UL with no phone rent.

@All:- Any tips on increasing the downloading speed of torrents?? Although my specified speed is 256kbps the max download speed i have achieved is 100kbps only even after closing all the applications except torrent.
what is the download speed you're getting around 25KBps? ..if yes then it is the normal speed you should get.

      @nanotech:

I've been using YouTele Broadband for years now.

they were called Iqara Broadband back when i first got them

      I've got a...

      Plan: Unlimited 1mbps broadband connection

      Modem: Dedicated Modem

Connection type: Static IP (no dialer, it's always ON)

Price: INR 1734 per month (they've also got a 512kbps for about 750 bucks)

I've virtually never had ANY downtime.

in the event of any issue... their service is prompt.

I can download a 100mb file with a premium Rapidshare/Hotfile connection in under 6 minutes.

for Torrents... 1GB usually takes about 90-110 minutes if the Torrent has a lot of Seeders.

Browsing with Google Crome is instantaneous.

      .

I think my plan's the best: indicom broadband. night unlimited(9pm - 9am) with no caps at 2mbps at only 300Rs.
This plan was discontinued for new customers three years back.
I have downloaded 11 gigs in single night many times.

Well 256kbps is my normal internet speed as claimed by the service provider (bsnl). But the download speed never exceeds 100kbps even after closing all the internet apps.

As i suggested earlier. BSNL is the way to go. Other option you can consider is tata docomo 3G stick. Docomo is a bit costlier than bsnl but it has good speeds.

                          Docomo gives max

21.1 Mbps Rs. 2000 15 GB FREE at 128 kbps speed 30 days

That 15GB includes upload too i think ---whats the use of giving 21Mbps and then limiting the plan to just 15GB---i have downloaded more than 15GB in a single day on BSNL 3g---if the OP chooses 3G then the only option left for him is BSNL 3G which offers TRUE unlimited plans ( no fook you policy).
