Finally I am ditching hathway, FU policy and the recently introduced mandatory login has eaten my brain to the core..

    Planning MTNL wifi connection.

now they have an option of a wireless router which costs 600 bucks a month, and 50 bucks every month as its rental alone, i wish to buy my own router.

I need to keep my computer, and ps3 connected almost all the time, and maybe 1 or 2 more devices once in a blue moon, do you guys have any options of nice router that i can buy ?
Besides, does MTNL have fair usage policy ?

    @ 1000 cc

Dude, a friend of mine is using reliance, is very unhappy.
So is another one using tata.

I guess MTS is a better option, they have an unlimited plan for 999 bucks.

I have been using Sify BB for the last 5 yrs. They are pretty good with no FUP nonsense. 700 bucks for 384kbps UL. Only thing is there will be a outage whenever electricity goes off in your locality - they have a central switch in each area.

Only one better than them is BSNL - but that is while they are working. God help you if your line goes dead!

        Sify isn't good here.
The one i am using right now is (so called) very good, but i hate them, they can't even answer a silly query over the helpline.
If i ask them to reset the port or check for timeout update or something, they get confused and ask me if i am using their connection for more than 1 PC.
Too many disconnections are a pain.

I am going for MTNL, which is actually BSNL in mumbai.
        Looking for wireless ADSL modem.
i heard that their router has some firmware issues, hence thinking of buying my own router first.

Do these guys start a new drama is you bring in your own router ??

You can use your own ADSL router, but I don't think so they will configure it for you.

          BTW, what issues?

            I can configure a router.
that's not a problem at all, but i need to know what sort of router is needed ?
If i can buy say a BELKIN N router, will it work with their line ?

I read somewhere that security is a problem with their own routers, and one can easily hack into it, which can be avoided with firmware updates, but even they are not regular.
Once a terrorist plotted email was sent via a WiFi access point which was secured.
            Some say its easily hackable.

You will need a ADSL modem - the one which accepts a phone line. If you have friends with a BSNL modem, you can copy the settings easily.

Else, get a plain BSNL modem and connect a Wi-Fi router to it.

MTNL in mumbai is the best among the lot I heard. Most of my friends in mumbai use MTNL. Soon I guess even mumbai is going to have beam fiber. (A guy working for beam told me this) They are working on spreading their business through out india.

Here in hyderabad they're the best! 10Mbps for 1000 bucks. FUP - 30 gb. After which you still get 2 Mbps. I get a DL speed of 1.4 Mbps (during FUP)
                M800 - 2001 - 5787.
                Nano 2011 - 5086.
                Figo 2011 - 518.
                P220 - 2010 - 5995.
                CBR 250R - 2011 - 250.

                    MTS: Not a good choice

Hi all, few days back my boss purchased MTS (I suggested it to him), actication happened in 6 - 8hrs after purchase (they activate only after document submitted to the retailer reaches the MTS collection guys)

Download speeds (when using at off - Shivajinagar) were around 500kbps (as per the Mts software) when playing youtube videos, but the same device gave a shocking speed of 20kbps (same youtube video played at his residence) at Hennur Road (Outskirts of the city). Their customer car4e couldnot solve my issue. I called them twice and they successfully bluffed that their server is down and across the nation MTS devices would have trouble.

They assured that this will get fixed by 48hrs, its almost 4days now no call back from them, speed still s***s.

If you are in heart of city there are chances you will get average speed, but once you are on the outskirts, it is worse than your mobile GPRS.

The MTS device connects to the nearest 3G tower, If that fails, it connects to the nearest mobile tower (2G tech) and provides you at GPRS speeds.

                      Beam the beast

I am running on a plan 15 mbps for 1500 Rs per month
you will get 15 mbps until 40 GB after that the speed will be reduced to 4 mbps for more than 40 Gb in a month. Sounds gr8 right

afaik rustock bot net was brought down some time back, you may want to run malwarebyte antimalware or super anti spyware or windows defender/malicious removal tool scan just to bee on the safer side, make sure you update them before scanning
