Madhavji... Primary function of Action cams is for video recording while riding. It is not for taking pics (though you can do it with many action cams when you are stationary). If you need pics a DSLR may be better for you that you can carry in your tank bag and STOP when you encounter that great shot and take a pic and ride on. Almost all action cams allow you to take at least 720p vid recording while riding. So decide on the basis of your requirement. But I think Cube is not suitable for you. For one it does not even have a view finder. You can checkout SJCAM SJ4000 for around 8000 bucks (original). Otherwise if you are ok with generic chinese cams, go to ebay and you can find them starting from 2000 - 3000 bucks. But of course you get what you pay for.

Thank you deejayrox. I just feel hesitant to stop and take a pic. 1. Safety (Also breaks the rhythm of riding). 2. Time 3. On a route like Meppadi to Gudalur, I'd be stopping every 100m to take shots

I do not want to buy a DSLR as I do not want to learn the nittygritties of photography. I thought there would be some cheap mountable camera with a timelapse function which would click pics every minute or so. Is some device like that in the market? TIA

almost all the action cams have timelapse option with duration till 1minute to max, but then if you use it, then you will use most of the time finding the correct shot out of 1000s of shots it will take,
Or best option would be get action cam with wi fi, get the phone mounted in front of you, whenver you need to click, open the app, click and continue riding.

Yes my concern was also about stopping for a click and restoring the Ride which kind of destroys the rhythm. Xiomi yi wifi (240fps slow motion) is now available in India for 6-7k which can do all of what gopro hero 4 can do. But lacks accessories at this time. But I'm aiming for that

Can anyone guide me as to where I can get a bar mount for my SJ4000 camera in Pune or perhaps for GoPro which I understand has mounts which are compatible.

Are there any SJcam dealers in Chennai? Please let me know I am finding so many fake products online and I would love to purchase an original one in person if there are dealers in Chennai

On the other hand, people who use action camera, do you guys use an external mic and speak as you ride and record? Isn't that too noisy with wind also blowing against you?

Otherwise if you voice over after recording, then wouldn't it be tough to sync your hand gestures/movements with the voice?

This one is genuine (SJCAM SJ4000WIFI Action Camera 12MP 1080P H.264 1.5: Amazon.in: Electronics)
Mic placement plays an important role in cutting wind noise, I have kept it covered with two sponges, that too helps.

And if lucky like me, one may never get the goods at all. Happened twice and I decided to not trust China Mail. Rather Hong Kong post/Sweden post should be preferred. And if shipping for a >6k item is <1k by reputed posts with a quick delivery time (1 week); I'd prefer that. (Rough estimations)
Got a $5 head? Get a $5 helmet.

I've been following this thread for quite sometime.

I wanted to know how good the SJCAM SJ4000 is for motovlogging where both audio and video comes into account.

Can someone rate the audio and video on a scale of 5 ?
Its better to sweat than to bleed...

If GoPro is a 5/5 (video); then SJCam is ~4/5. Night performance is 75% as good and daylight performance is roughly 90% as GoPro.
Audio quality depends on a lot of factors which have been discussed by prateek2210 in the past. Mic placement, insulation and overall quality & sturdiness of the set up matter a lot.

Thank you so much for your thoughts.

I am planning to get one soon. I was initially planning for the GoPro but later when I went through this thread, I found the SJ to be a good camera to start with motovlogging/recording rides etc.

I will get some tips/help during installation.

I have installed a mono mic in my SJ4000 and its working flawlessly. As DivyaSharan said, its yes 4 out of 5 overall. As startup cam, its bang for money.
