there is a new technique called intralase that is like Lasik but does not involve cutting the cornea as the Lasik does.

if removal of glasses is needed just for 'fighting' even a contact can suffice. No need to take your eyes through any surgery. Not to scare anyone but surgery is surgery and will always leave some effect.

I don't know about cylinderical thing, will check my prescriptions. For first 2-3 days, you are usually sleepy and quite sensitive of light, so my eyes were mostly closed under the black glasses. Later on, they slowly started recovering, and I returned to office n increased fonts to big size for readability. In a few days, my reading vision came back, so I could read small text easily.

There are numerous resourses on line that help you get knowledge, perhaps even better than what the eye doc can tell. This is the site that I particularly find useful for PRK ppl:

      PRK post-op - D'Eyealogues

It takes 3-6 months for a full recovery, but PRK doesn't have the side effects of Lasik, and NIO doctors honestly suggest that if the eye is in good shape, go only for PRK even though LASIK is costlier. However, they do also perform Lasik, as the guy previous to me was a Lasik patient. Whole PRK thing took 10 mins, I came running in the hospital taking half day from work at 11.50, went inside the room at 12, out at 12.10, and on way to home at 12.30! So procedure doesn't take much time at all, it's the recovery that demands time!

FYI, the doc suggested that I do not go long distance riding for atleast 3 months. City riding is fine.

Fighting is one of the causes, there more reasons for which I wish to get rid of my spectacles, like - wearing sun-glasses..

The thing with contacts is, just in case by mistake I wash my eyes, without removing them, I might loose them..

Thanks for link and the tip, pal..

For some reason the eye specialists whom I've met don't recommend or guide much on eye treatments like this.. they won't even suggest me to use contacts.. wonder why?

I came to know of something called Zyoptix by Bausch and Lomb. Sounds like Intralase now, but will have to confirm. I used contacts for 4 years before getting a serious infection in the eye, leading to scarring of the cornea. Used to drive like a blind mole for many days untill I dropped wearing the lenses. Back to glasses now for a year, and the power increased since the last check.

Zyoptix is a very safe method and is a imporvement on Lasik. My bro has got that done 2 years ago and is doing great. Only pre-requisite to the procedure is that your cornea should be sufficiently thick.

Hehe... I am kinda conventional on few things.. but certainly it won't be a harm trying out atleast contacts.. thanks for the heads up!

And yeah... when I lift up my helmet's visor lots of dust particles tend to end into my eyes even though I wear specs, so yes.. covering up eyes is very necessary whilst riding..

Must be something dirty in the lenses?? What did that doc say?? the reason??

I am again confused like always.. .. I guess, I'll consult/ pester the eye specialist another time

Thanks guys for throwing light on these many possibilities to get rid of specs..

Doc said nothing, tho I think I could have put on my older lenses which were store is a similar looking case. Do research/pester consultants. It's your eye, afterall and you won't be getting a second pair if, God forbid, there are complications.

Chalo ji animeher ji - congrats dude!

I have similar vision (or lack thereof). I'm pulling along well with monthly disposable contact lenses.

Kindly take good care of your eyes. I've read of a couple of bad experiences with PRK after impact on the eyes (read of some surfers etc), but none I know! My friends who've done PRK/Lasik have been quite happy long term!

Lasik involves cutting of cornea, which I was very uncomfortable with. If at all you wish to proceed with Lasik, make sure yours is a blade-less cut. If a blade cuts the cornea, then I have read that the cornea never gains full strength, and you are not allowed in high pressure environment like surfing/deep sea diving etc. Even in US army/air force, PRK is allowed but not Lasik.

And interestingly, PRK usually costs less than Lasik, and except this NIO in pune, all the private docs were recommending Lasik. When NIO docs advised me PRK, I was very skeptical as to why they are suggesting me a 'primitive' method. It was only when I researched on net that I realized the benefits of PRK, and opted for it.

Lenses actually affect the shape of the cornea. And spending a non-negligible amount each month on lenses, and taking care of them seemed bit too much for me. So saved for this operation for almost a year or two, planned the vacation well in advance, and took the plunge!

There must be better margins in Lasik for private docs, I guess ^^^...

Just for the sake of money, people are ready to ruin other's life.. (i.e. hiding facts on these things) that's so bad..

Heyy i have had lasik done...and the same goes with me..i too was quite acceptable with the glassses on :P but the same problems...of dependance and riding in monsoons, trekking etc made me go for it.

I am very very happy with the decision till now...it has been 2 years i have had it and i have not found anythng wrong with it till now

I would suggest..go ahead with it
