There hasn't been any power cut except for the regular roster in Noida.
coal fired power units will be be fine, they get supplies by railway. and power is supplied back to the railway so its a closed independent operation. even the diesel run engines need not fume since railway itself stocks millions of liters of diesel

I do not know if I should feel happy for the RTR or sad about this fuel state. Gotta check HPCL and SHELL bunks in the afternoon time.

@Leon : Totally agree with the alternate fuels and stuff, but thats atleast the status of tomorrow. What will be the status today with our regular fossil-fuel powered vehicles running out of fuel?

@RedApple: In such cases u can forget about subsidies man. During the hey-days Petrol will be sold for 100 a litre and diesel for 50 a litre. Can u live with it?
Bicycle + Daal Roti + Lassi = cycle away for 12 kms

anyhow i was LUCKY that in rural areas people arent that much aware. so i could tank up at Krishnagiri easily. i still have 8-9 litres of fuel left.

pumps are already dry in tumkur. petrol is being sold in black in bottles wow

no using the bike now.. ill walk or cycle for short distances , ill be at most doing 50kms in next two weeks so i have petrol for the entire month of jan...

The situation is tough right now no doubt about that. But this is not what the future will look like. Today we are entirely dependent on fossil fuels which have to be refined. And if the refineries do not work, we do not have fuel. Today is the 3rd day of them shutting down. It is a drastic fall in production. From all to nothing at the drop of sundown. The future will not look like this since it will evolve.

I was not even aware of the situation. But thankfully I have half a tankful in all my vehicles. I think I will last 4-5 days.

Not to be insensitive to the situation here, but in Nepal, the situation of shortage has been going on and on since more than a year. People actually sleep in their vehicles in queue. Sometimes waiting in the queue means parking your car in line for 2-3 days. Sometimes, you reach 4-5 car lengths to the pump after 40 hours of waiting then the fuel runs out.

Government vehicles saunter through and tank up their vehicles as we mere mortals stand in line for days. They also have the nerve to bring 20 - liter jugs and fill that up too saying its for official purposes (they would be giving it to relatives or selling it off for double the price). I personally have done 6-hour shifts routine for 3 days, swapping with my brother or dad (when he's not in office) to fill up the car when I had gone home twice last year. Also, when your turn arrives, you can't tank up, four wheelers get 10 liters max and two wheelers get 5. That's the situation in Nepal.
              Here's a video:

Fuel shortages are gripping Nepal, with motorists and taxi drivers forced to queue for hours to buy strictly rationed petrol. The landlocked mountainous count...

I hope for both our countries that this fuel disaster ends soon.

              P.S:-

The international media is under the impression that the new government is doing well in Nepal.

Kathmandu, the capital, gets 12 hours of load shedding a day at this very moment, and other areas gets 15-18 hours load shedding a day. Thats 6 hours electricity per day. Its going to be 18 hours a day next month in the capital as well.

I was supposed to have year's first tour this weekend.....almost 700km... I have around 4 liters of petrol in my ZMA now. But that will not do anything. Yesterday I went to the pump. They agreed to give fuel worth 100Rs only....

                        @Pranay

That's a bad bad situation even to imagine... brings back memories of situation in Hyderabad during the Gulf War days... the one the senior Idiot Bush started... Petrol price jumped from Rs 13 to 18 and then to 21 and there was a severe shortage for some time...

                          1) Always I take a pillion while going to office.
                          2) Once in a week I use public transport to office ( metro rail)
                          3) Most of the weekend I use public transport for shopping / get-together
                          4) I never use bikes if the distance is less than 2KM ( I used to walk )
                          5) I use staircase (11 floors) rather lift as its keep me healthy & save some electricity.
                          6) I switch off my PC while going home.

These are few steps I follow in day to day life. Please feel free to add if you have / follow anything like this.

@aparjith: it prolly wont be 100 per liter. In the US at least..every station gets to set its own price..and therefore competes with every other station, both of the same brand and others. Therefore there isnt much variation in prices...unless you go to some place in the middle of nowhere. I dont see why the american system cant work here.

@RedApple: Mate, am not not just blabbering something. I have enough contacts. My uncle is one of the directors of ESSAR OIL Ltd. As for the US, most of the oil fields are owned by US companies like SHELL, CALTEX etc. Also US has a much larger local oil production than India. And who said US does not subsidise? For instance, they can get away with a much lesser import duty on the fuel being imported. So lots of complications exist to implement the US system in India. The price value I quoted may be an exaggeration, but its only slight. Cos that was almost the money that was spent by these private oil companies to import fuel, refine it and ship it to every bunk around the country when the oil cost was very high and our Govt increased the fuel prices.

@Pranay: I seriously do not know what to say about ur plight man. Not to rub salt in ur wounds or something, but am very happy that am in INDIA!

Won't petroleum be covered under ESMA ? Last time there was a strike by pump owners and ESMA was invoked.I think it will happen this time too.
