  • Thanks bprags Eagerly waiting for the week end

synergizer, no lenses in mind as such. Given my budget, i'll stick to the kit lens and then move on as and when i have money to splurge.

    but i'm just curious...
If i manage to get the body only for say 17K (factoring in that i convince him to keep the kit lens for 3K). The max i can push my budget to is a total of 22K.

What can i get for 5K? I am not looking out for any primes now. I need the AF-S.... any fixed focal length you have in mind? Was checking out the sigma HSM range for the nikon mount... 50 - 80mm f2.8 i guess... but that would cost me USD 350 which i cant afford now.

    Thanks. You both.
    Regards,
    Sai.

I would advise you to use go for the Sigma 50mm 1.4, though costly the bokeh that it generates is wow better than the new Nikon 50mm 1.4d, but then the lens is costly too, it should cost around 25K.

      • Hey guys,

Im thinking of buying the Sony A200K or maybe A200W which retails for 38k. Would i be able to get the A200W within 30k in the grey market? I also looked at Nikon D40 and reading reviews about a few more DSLRs. Any suggestions?

Just out of curiosity, what is the availability of Konica Minolta lens?

i think konica minolta is sold to sony and sony just sells the lenses under its brand name!
i think you shouldn't take risk by buying it from grey market! A200 is only compatible with sony lenses which are really costly.
i think you should also look for Nikon D60 and Canon 1000D

Yeah Minolta lens are sold under Sony now and all Sony products are damn expensive. What about Tamron or Sigma? I liked the Sony A200 body basically. Awesome battery life(boon on long rides) and performance.

The EOS 1000D/Rebel XS is excellent too. Very good details and colour reproduction but how does it handle highlights? Read that it burns them up.

What is the price of Nikon D60 in the grey market?

I think there is a Sigma 18-200 F3.5-6.3 lens around 10K.. that will be a really good pick...

I think its too much here.
Try to get it from someone who is coming from abroad - maybe the US, or UK.

dont know why but all the DSLRs are priced Rs 10k-11k more than what it is abroad. No relative is planning to come now man recession fears and all that. So grey market is the only option.

i saw in amazon that even the A300K comes within my budget!

Yeah!!! It is a tad bit heavy compared to all, but you also get the robust feeling as a DSLR. The build quality of the this cam is very good, which you really need.

I would advice you not to go for the Sony Superzoom, because you have better cameras than the sony. Check the link provided by you.

ravi, could you tell us if you have experienced the FZ 28 and its comparison with SX 10. Besides featurewise, the image quality, sharpness and CA.

Right now, I am completely sold on the FZ-28.

@Samyaza: I would advise you to wait. Do not go for a grey market camera at any cost. I have contacted them. They have told me to wait till next week for the MRP for the A200W.
