The first lens is with image stabilization and the optics are very much improved than the second lens. The second lens is without IS.

Go for IS version which is a very good lens and value for money.
i think he asked for a 17-55/2.8, and not the 18-55s
the 17-55 is a much more expensive lens and in India would run close to 45K i suppose. maybe even more as its US price is 900$

Yes i asked for 17-55/2.8 and not the 18-55 IS or non IS plastic lens... not to hurt or disappoint anyone, but i think the 18-55 is pretty crap, might be good for very basic starters though.

anything around 45k would be a very high price in my opinion...in US its easily available on store shevles at around 750.. online seems to be on higher side of 850-900.

Ah damn! Yes, I also think he asked for the 17-55mm lens rather than the kit lens (18-55mm). I still remember when I went to get my Canon EOS 400D, I wanted to get the 17-55mm lens instead of the 18-55mm because the 17-55 is a fast lens (with fixed f2.8 aperture), but then the price just DID NOT fit in my budget. So, I thought it's better to get the IS (18-55) lens than over spend on something that I really couldn't afford at that point of time.

        • if it is 750 in US stores, it will be atleast 50-55 in India *proper canon reseller*

If I can somehow sell off my 18-55mm IS lens for "some" value, I would love to get my hands on this one, for sure! F2.8 would really come in handy..

P.S: We don't get 2.8 apertures on ultra wide angle lenses, like the 10-22mm, do we? I ask because I have been contemplating on getting the 10-22mm as my wide angle lens, but would've loved a faster aperture for the same coverage (10-22mm).. *Sigh*

Just make sure you check out the stuff thoroughly before you go ahead and pay the dealer.

It would help if you have a look at the image count; that way you can make sure that it hasn't been used prior to your purchase. Normally, when I go to purchase, say a lens from the gray market, I check for smudges on the glass and the general condition of the lens which gives me a fair bit of idea about the lens.

I am a pretty regular customer of this particular shop, hence, he makes sure that I get "good" stuff.. It helps to have your own network everywhere..

Naah! Need something wider than the 16-35 for sure, coupled with a seriously fast aperture!

As things stand right now, it seems I'll have go ahead and get the 10-22mm only..

                          • The 10-22 is an awesome lens. So light and feels just right on the XTi (and the 40D). Its beautiful. I've used it a couple of times now (my roommate has one). Its a must have for everyone.

Meanwhile, 55-250IS (held back from a 70-200 f/4L on purpose) + knockoff ET 60 hood, 430ex II, BG E3 grip are on their way to me. Scarily midway through the exam week

                            • Hi all

I own a Panasonic Lumix FZ 28 and i am looking for the additional lens .

                              DMC-FZ28 | PRODUCTS | LUMIX | Digital Camera | Panasonic Global

I am looking for DMW LT55 ,DMW LC55 & DMW LA3 for the time being .

The camera was bought from UK and the accessories that i am talking about are not available in shops and they say that they will have to put the order for the same which works out to be around 8 grants for the 3 items . Is there any other place in India that i can check for the same or can any otehr cameras lens and adapter would sute for me . I am in coimbatore .

All your advice would be of great help .

                              • DONT do it. Such adaptors generally are overpriced and not worth it qualitywise. Instead I'd recommend spending on a sturdy tripod, a spare battery and some petrol to go for a nice long ride to take pictures of
