I get my stuff for gray market, and each of the lenses I've got works like a charm! Although I've got the camera body 'officially', but all the lenses that I have till date are off the gray market. No problems, whatsoever.

Actually, almost all the people I know (who are into photography) have got their stuff from gray market, else the prices that these lenses sell at, officially, will kill us!

There are many shades of grey. In Bangalore, as far as I have heard, its the darkest of them shades! I agree they charge exorbitant prices here in India. I think getting from someone who is coming from abroad is the cheapest way. The way I have calculated, getting the cameras shipped to our location is cheaper than buying them here.

The place I have contacted, Foto Circle, quoted 17K for a Panasonic FZ-28, a good deal if you consider the online US/UK/Singapore prices.

What about the warranty those cameras come with? I mean the ones from us or uk. Will it be valid here?

Which DSLR and lenses do you use? How is the Sigma, Tamron lens availability?

I use a Canon EOS 400D and three lenses, namely:
            a) Canon 18-55mm f3.5-f5.6 IS (which comes standard with the 450D)
            b) Canon 50mm f1.8 II
            c) Canon 100mm f2.8 USM macro lens

As for the availability of Sigma, Tamron, etc. (third party lenses), everything is available. You want it, you got it!

P.S: I also use a digital camera - the Canon Powershot S3 IS.

Warranty will be valid anywhere I guess. The problem is, in case of damage, claiming of warranty will be difficult. Grey market cameras, I don't know how cheaper they will be comparatively. But I'm sure, outside, it's still cheaper.

                  • Hey frenz.. with all that discussion on this thread for the digicam.. I hav finalized Panasonic Lumix FZ28..

                    I have currently two options..
                    1) Get it from UK thru my friend
                    2) Get it from US thru my sis..

If I get it thru my sis it'll cheaper than getting it from Uk. But the prob is there's no friend of my sis comin to India in near future.

So can anyone tell me how much will b the cost of getting the cam to India via some shipping/courier service?

                    Is if safe/reliable?

Also I hav heard somewher that the cost depends on the weight of the article... Is it true? If yes then with an approximate weight of 450gms of Cam and over all weight of say 700-800gms including accessories what would b the cost?

Guys i need this info soon..
                    Plz guide me thru this...

Xeno, Panasonic Lumix LZ8 is also a better option along with Canon Powershot A590IS. LZ8 you will get for exactly 7999, well below your budget of 8000; you can save a rupee. Check this.

Pranay, Both SX10IS and FZ28 are very good cameras. SX10IS has hot shoe, which allows you to use a flash gun. Also, SX10IS has a multi-rotate screen which really comes in handy in akward camera positions. More over, the view finder of SX10IS is slightly better than FZ28. Canon SX10IS also has a bit of more zoom at tele end than FZ28.

Other than these, both cameras are very good in all departments. If you really like FZ28 and if you get it cheaper than SX10IS, you can close your eyes and go for it.

in such a situation..best thing is to order online.now a days shipping is usually low.try adorama.com for latest prices.i think they ship from hongkong for india even if they are in US.thats what my friend told me when he got his lens.

sadly our exchange rate currently is running on 49rs a dollar.so invariably u will have to shell out more if u ordering.it ofcourse includes shipping.

i would say that Uk will be a costly affair if ordering.since again exchange rate.but if they ur relative and stuff then its other story.

US would work out bit more cheaper for you than UK . Buy always from trusted source . That helps a lot in getting genuine stuff
