    Anyhow, the gray market dealer gives about a month's warranty. If anything has to happen, it generally happens during the first 30 odd days of it's usage, generally.

    It's a personal choice in any-case. Someone wants to get his equipment with warranty, etc., then he/ she is free to do so.

          Thats what i have done and will be doing Amby.
          Purchased my 500 D and even the 1st lens 50 mm 1.8 with with bill. The coming lenses will be from grey market.

            I am thinking of buying an entry level DSLR probably EOS1000D it retails for about 22k what will be the price difference if i buy it from gry market?

                  Varun, what other lenses are you planning to get? And how do you find the 50mm f1.8? Any particular reasons for getting the 50 mil. and not the kit lens (18-55mm IS)?

                    Even I am thinking of getting EOS 1000D but I will get the body wil 18-55mm lens from authorised dealer and the lenses from china!:O china border is near from here!

                    anyway price will differ 8-10k

                        @Nipun: That's just a guess. Actually, the more expensive the equipment, the more difference there is between the gray-market prices and the billed prices. However, for the exact price, you would need to enquire.

                          No,I was saying that here when I inquired in gray market here he quoted me 16-18k..and the prices were varying.Moreover these goods come from china via Nepal which is near here and if I get it from Nepal it may be more cheaper!

                            i heard chandni chowk is the best grey market for cameras and optics.
                            you know any trusted shop to which i can go or from which you purchase your equipment.
                            it becomes lot easy if i know a shop which is good then i can bargain at other shops.
