  • [Photo Feature]: 100W HID on TVS Fiero!

    hello everyone,

the time has finally come, MY BIG upgrade is finally over, presenting the brightest ever automotive headlamps till date.

yes, you read it correct, its 100w of pure hid 4300k temp.
very bright bulbs and almost 3 times bigger than a standard hid bulb, notice the size of the ballast.

to run these bulbs, stator wasn't enough, i already winded my stator 3 times to get that perfect 8 amps in normal range, but it wasn't possible on 7 pole stator.

    so came the answer..

i installed a CAR ALTERNATOR on my bike, 35amp one typically found in maruti 800s

bike generates 35 amps (or how much is needed) at 1200 rpm itself, so no more battery draining problems .

and yes with this i also installed the best headlamp in this country (p220's) as i broke mine trying to fit better projectors.

bike is running without a stator coil, even the spark plug is powered through the battery.

the beam spread pics will follow shortly..

Comments are welcome (good or bad).

    more details will follow.
Giving a lot to a fiero.
Expecting a lot from a fiero.

I'm stumbling for words. Hats off to your extensive knowledge on the latest technology in lighting. The least I could do are, appreciate you, which I've done & will rate this thread 5 star

I would pity the truckies but lucky them that you have not put 100w on HB yet

        Congrats once again

i don't even wish to install this 100w hid on the high beam, its too bright to be used as high.

its gives a standard 14.3 volts above 1200 rpm, even if the load is 10w or 155w there's no voltage drop.

didn't check the amps though as i have a DMM

with load, it puts load on the crank, and the rpms drop slightly as it happens in the car, for now i will get a cover made.

          beam shots will come soon.

Just fantastic.. Nanotech this is simply Bucking Frilliant dude.

I don't know what to write, but One thing is for sure you have done a commendable job & set the bars too high to achieve for other lighting modifiers

            Keep up the good work..

Awesome! Finally the thread got approved!

                    Beam pics please!
Is the alternator mounted using only one clamp? The Z clamp on the top of the alternator? Is it the only mount?

Also, how much is the speed reduction from the crank to the alternator? what are the diameters of the pulleys?

Beam pics will come tonight, i need a better cam though..
the alternator has a mounting bolt on the base, as well as the Z clamp.
the crank pulley is half the size of the alternator pulley, the calculations were done by the guy who designed the shaft.

you can come over to my place to look at things first hand.

                      @ rahulingle

Thanks a lot for your compliments, the voltage is constant 14.3, however the amperage is upto 35 amps, enough for everything until 600 watts....

                      @ all

Thanks a lot for your compliments, i didn't expect such an overwhelming response ever.
I've got quite a few calls too, thank you soo much guys for all this support.

Firstly congratulations for a successful experiment on your bike ... secondly I wanted to ask if such modifications need special RTO approval as it would surely be a cop magnet and lastly I think I saw you and your bike at Reddy's Bike Care Centre (Goregaon) this Tuesday (22nd March, 2011) at around noon time !
