  • Re: General SBK Discussion Thread

Saving up for a midrange seems like such a waste of time due to these incoherent, abysmal import laws of our country. In my opinion a 600 will suit quite well for our roads... not as heat producing, frugal compared to a litre class (more trippable), affordable, 600 class has gone through some of the most advanced development in the world (overall), opening the market to these will help local companies to exploit the market creating better business situations... but noooooooo... In India, our leaders make sure we don't get what the world enjoys... Its only extremities that exist in my country... 50cc and 1000cc bikes (legitimately exaggerating...)... anything in between is illegal... Disgusted and angry at this insane law.

Anyway, what I dont understand is that when Triumph comes into the market... will Honda, Kawasaki, Yamaha and the likes just sit and watch the sales of Triumph's 600 beat their sales all out in India? I already find that happening with Yamaha... Kawasaki has the Ninja 650r introduced in India, where's the Yami FZ6r?

Also just feel blessed that Triumph is finally coming in... Cannot wait to test out the Daytona and the Tiger which I have my eyes set for. Wish for more competition from Japanese Manufacturers though (already running the network they have in India)... t'will be sad otherwise.

    Cheers all.

Are they bringing the Tiger to India? Initial reports said they are not.

Triumph is legally available now so insurance would be done by the company

I'm having an idea of buying the HONDA CBR 600RR and I want to know about the bike's average FE in city and in highways and will it be possible to get the 2007 version of this bike from the showroom now? or else am I just left only with the option of buying the latest version of it??

I don't think 600RR would be available at the showroom as Honda haven't launched this bike officaially here.

                      Ride safe and have fun.

                        1. CBR600 was/is never officialy launched in India so no showroom can get it for you.
                        2. CBR600 comes under sub 800cc category so cost of importing it would be quite high.
                        3. High enough that you can buy the Daytona675 here legally or add 2-3 lacs more and get a liter class

P.S. : CBR600 and FE? You are joking right? By the way it would give around 18 in cities and 20-22 in highways. Runs on 97 Octane or higher and anything less would screw the engine.

This might seem like a silly question but why do higher capacity bikes cost so much more? Does it cost manufacturers twice as much to build a 250cc bike as compared to a 150cc and six times as much for a 600cc?

                            You seriously dont know?
                            1. CKD vs CBU Price : Most , rather 90% of these bigger bikes are CBUs so taxes are added extra
                            2. Material used : Lets explain this with an example, ever checked the tyres of CBR250 and then of CBR1000RR, the make and the quality?
                            3. Digitals and Electronics : Bigger bikes have far moire electronics = far more machinery involved while manufacturing.
                            4. Last but not the least : Man Power involved

CKD vs CBU doesn't matter because the price difference exists in overseas markets as well. I can understand extra cost for higher quality materials/features and low sales volume but I can't wrap my head around how this translates to such a huge price difference.

You missed the "tax" part and moreover the value of Rs compared to the currency of the country its being imported.
Last I knew the import duty was 110% which increased to 144% (speculated)
