        I was at this fuel bunk yesterday filling up(I normally do a tank fill, saves me the trouble of visiting the bunk every now and then). There was this guy on a splendor standing next to me. this is how the conversation went:
        (whatever is in the braces is the Splendor guys look on his face after my answer)
        Splendor guy(SG): what bike?
        Me: R15
        SG: How much cc?
        Me: 150.(Gives a nodding approving look)
        SG: how much bhp?
        Me:17(same look)
        SG: How much gears?
        Me:6()
        SG:Top speed?
        Me:130()
        SG: Cost?
        Me: 1 lakh()
        SG: Mileage?
        Me:40 - 42
        SG: Only 40??

        Now, this guy gave that 'I-own-a-superior-machine-than-yours' look. I dont know why, but it exactly looked like the Bajaj XCD ad. I then looked back and said, "what do u expect, 100 like ur moped?". This guy then frowned and stared at me and went off.

        Dont know why, but wanted to share it here. Just goes on to show our mentality

        Mods : If u find this OT, pls delete it. Since this is for off-topic discussions I put it here.

                I dont expect the prices will come down anytime soon. especially if the tumbling down prices are due to a slowdown in consumption. I mean if the govt is waiting for the companies to get into profitability, then the lower consumption (if it is the case) will make things all the more difficult.

                PS: Ever had quality issue with Shell? I somehow never found Chennai shell better than other bunks, only their service was better!
                I have never used Shell fuel. but if the difference is only the quality, then the best choice is to try a COCO (company owned and company operated) fuel stations of the sarkari firms. The "probability" is more that you will find quality fuel, which I am 'guessing' will be as good as the quality you get at Shell fuel stations.

                  It is so simple, they will reduce the price of the fuels just before elections for political gain. They will pocket huge money before that happens. Daylight robbery.

                  I have had a very bad experience with Shell Super in Hyderabad. My car's engine started to knock when I filled tankful of Super. Thought some problem with the clutch and engine and roamed service center to service center but was never able to rectify it. The Service guys told me to check with the petrol, and I argued them that Shell is the best fuel you can get. Afeter I completely used the Super fuel, I filled in regular fuel from a good COCO outlet. Immediately I noticed the knocking gone. Since then, I never went to Shell again.

                    aircraft fuel is now cheaper than the petrol. and crude prices are playing in the 53-56$ per barrel prices. and dollar rate is 49-50. what people see is the crude price. but the cost of conversion to petrol/diesel also has to be taken into account. since india has no provision for this, we are exporting.

                    what people are thinking is when crude was 140/barrel we were paying 57 now its 55/barrel. but people just dont understand that companies were giving petrol under loss.

                    what news i got from an unknown source is they will reduce 4-5Rs in the next month. otherwise it will hamper the election.

                      You are very much true!!! SHELL provides excellent quality but not a good octane fuel. Even my earlier Pulsar used to knock with Shell(it had 210 psi compression), but not with SPEED or XtraPremium etc. Guys of Chennai, who came with me to Yelagiri can very well recall the whistling sound it used to make.

                        AFAIK, Speed is nothing but Normal 87 Octane fuel + Additives, but Xtrapremium is 91 Octane fuel.

                          If it is normal fuel, then why would the machine (in this case the P-220) knock? I mean these machines are designed keeping in mind the usage of "normal" petrol, isn't it? I have been using normal petrol since the time i have got my P-200 and it has NEVER given me any problems whatsoever..

                            Apar's bike is the one thats complaining (in this case a modified P-200), since it was running a higher compression it needed a higher octane fuel! And shell being 87 octane it was knocking, read his previous post.

                            What I am wondering is how did speed hold good as its a 87Octane fuel AFAIK???

                            The 220 has run on all sorts a fuel and does'nt have any issue at all, more so as its got a knock sensor that advances the ignition timing depending on quality of fuel!

                              I used to feel a dramatic difference in the NVH levels of my bike between SPEED and SPEED 97. Used it for 4 tankfulls, till that month's credit card bill came. After seeing the bill settled for SPEED or XtraPremium

                              Edit :
                              @Praful : No idea man, but u know the whistler!!

                                The Shell Super Unleaded is 91 Octane rite ? (IMO)
                                As far as i kno 220 is 10:.5:1 for which i believe 91 octane shld wrk fine, not sure bout 200 thou.
                                Also i have been using it since past 300Kms and thrs a huge diff between Shell and others like Speed and Power which i have already tried.
                                Shell feels much better at higher RPMs no knocking wat so ever !
                                Donno how ppl have got so many issues with Shell....
