The compression ratio on the 220 is 9.5 (+/-0.1) : 1. So 87 to 97 octane is not a problem, moreover I mentioned about knock sensor in a previous post of mine.

Maybe we should email Shell and find out what the octane ratings are. This would anyway be good info to have.
Praful, most of what the above people said has to do with the octane rating of Shell fuel, not the quality. AFAIK, Shell quality has always been the best, and every ad and every sign in their pumps scream quality. This is also undisputed.Originally posted by prafultripathy View PostProbably shell like others now is inconsistent with fuel quality!

There has to be tried and tested bunk somewhere man where you can be assured of good quality fuel. Btw, give speed97 a try for 2-3 tankfills, just maybe your bike is being overdemanding....
Well go back a few pages and apart from there is Ravi too whose faced issues with fuel from Shell.Originally posted by rossiter View PostPraful, most of what the above people said has to do with the octane rating of Shell fuel, not the quality. And whats good on the outside might not necessarily be the same whats inside, so even if the Shell bunks are surgical clean, that in no way is going to ensure that their fuel quality is top-notch.
No doubting here that shell has been giving exceptional fuel almost everywhere, there might be some bunks that could have quality issue, despite it being COCO!Last edited by Praful; 11-18-2008, 03:51 PM._________________________

i had mixed experiences with shell.
shell regular and super helped my rx 100 run smooth and gave me few extra kms of mileage
but the same fuels gave me the same mileage with normal petrol(Hp,indian oil) and the engine was normal as well with more smoke from exhaust though.
and paying that extra buck for shell, i feel is worth though.Bikes don't spill oil, they mark their territory.

xBhp Pre-server crash I had shot a mail to BPCL regarding the octane number of speed.
I got the reply from them, I had posted it on xbhp also, which stated:
For the tier 1 cities speed has 93 octane number and for other cities, speed has 91 octane number.
I some how lost that mail too. Trying to locate the mail so that I can post it here again.

I remember that threat & thread too very well...Originally posted by sumit.pannalall View PostxBhp Pre-server crash I had shot a mail to BPCL regarding the octane number of speed.

Anyways, if what BPCL has told you is true then Speed is fantastic!
But then which cities would they be considering as Tier-I cities? And I am curious as to why would they have differential octane ratings under the same brand?Last edited by Praful; 11-18-2008, 04:36 PM._________________________

One complaint is freakish compared to the data on the other side. No offence meant to Ravi, maybe there was a genuine issue after all.Originally posted by prafultripathy View PostThere has to be tried and tested bunk somewhere man where you can be assured of good quality fuel. And yes, thanks for the gyan about the inside outside thing. It was enlightening. What I meant to say is that a company which is so hell bent on advertising it's superior quality (hence justifying the higher price to an extent), will not risk selling a bad product.
Now, let me leave it at that, lest a famous troll pop out and accuse me of selling out to Shell.
