Apart from the fun factor, according to the manual, the bike has to be serviced at regular intervals based on the # of kms it has covered. It sure will be odd to go to the service centre with the odo showing zero and telling the guy that you wanna do your servicing.

I guess so... but are you willing to spend 100 hrs just idling your bike at regular intervals? where's the fun in that?

sk8er ruin in jus doent jus involve the engine..it involves all the moing parts in ur bike to set,for the bike to adapt to ur specific and unique style of riding..the gears to open up..an the gears to set to high and low speed...
so jus ideling for whatever time is not going to help this cause..soo u have to go through the run-in if u want u bike to perform well in post run-in period..If Speed Is A Sin Then Am Guilty Of It!!

Hi
My names Sammy and i just purchased a Pulsar 180dtsi when i was on a few days break in India. I used it for about three days and the odo showed 278 km, since i had to leave i washed it and removed the feul from the tank(dont ask how) and have stored it in my house. I just wanted to know that as i will be back only after 5 to 6 months, what shouldi do when i want to start it after this time and any ideas about what will happen as i did not get to even do my first service.
Awaiting your reply

Sammy.. welcome to xBhp
Removing the fuel was a good idea... also it woulda been good if you removed the battery as well or it might get discharged by the time you come back. You could maybe ask a friend of yours who stays here to do the same._____________________________

hi i just joined in. I bought the 180 dtsi 2 months back. odo shows 1863 kms. finished with one service.
unfortunately i hadnt read this when i was running in my bike. I kept to the prescribed speed limits for the 1st 1000 kms and then i have been racing my bike since then. i have gone uptil 8000 rpm and 110kph.
My question is what now? is the damage done or is there still something i can do to prevent more from happening?

i dont think much damage might have been made to the engine.
for extra precaution n stuff they mention 2000kms.

Hi guys. The info here is pretty valuable. I am using most of these tips in my Unicorn.
But the manual states that the run in period is only 500 kms. Do you think I should stick to that or do I generally take care till 1000 and then slowly start opening up.
I am sorry to be posting this in the Pulsar thread, but I have no other option.. It is regarding the same topic, so can you guys help me on this. And is there anything else I need to do during run in.
Thanks in Advance...Death is Nature\'s way of recycling human beings.

wing_rider I wud say do the run in period for a min of 1000kms.. If possible continue till 2000kms .. but first 1000kms is veru important... later slightly increase ur speed till 75kmph for next 1000kmph... but try not to exceed it.... Even i too did as per the manual.. it's really wonderful manual

This is quite informative. But I have just one question. Why didn't bajaj write anything about using the kick start instead of self start in the morning in their Owner's manual/handbook if using kick start is recommended?? I have 150 DTSi E/S and I've never use the kick start even in the morning. I'd appreciate very much if you could tell me if this will affect the engine in any way in the long run.Do what you believe

Hi dr_se7en,
This running guide is for the most users who use their bike just for daily commuting purposes rather than due to passion.
Now coming back to ur query if ur running is anywhere arnd 20-30kms daily then u can use the self in mrng, the basic idea is that ur battery shud get sufficently charged to operate the self in mrng
