    gr8 manual dude....
i have got a 180 dtsi and done 9200 km
well i followed most of the parts of the manual during my running in....
i.e. till 2000km...i never crossed 80....but one fine day i ripped it out with 110 and more....
i guess it would be better guys if u slowly increase the speed....
and also the pulsar faces many gearbox problems...even mine is having them....
so just a request to all u guys use the gears judiciously
dont change gears when not in the speed range for that gear...
and that applies more while shifting down....
be rev happy and not rev crazy....
and u r sure to enjoy ur bike longer

        Hi all,
Last friday. I took my bike to service station to rectify a noise. There on a ride with the service guy, he told me that I was changing the gears too less and was using higher gears at low speeds. I was actually driving the bike as per the 3700rpm funda given in this post. He said that I should change gears with speed and not by RPM. He suggested the speeds of 0-15 for first gear, 15-30 for second, 30-40 for third, 40-55 for fourth and 55 above for fifth gear !!!! If I drive my bike as per his advice, then I will be taking my bike above 4000rpm for every gear change till 3rd and more than 4500-5000 for higher gears...This alongwith giving too much stress on the engine (I feel) in the very early stages of running-in. He gave the argument that as the bike is having TRICS (Throttle Regulated Ignition Control System), so if I don't give enough throttle, it will result in knocking and poor mileage.. Pls. advise which method is correct.

I have the new 2005 pulsar 150 ex-tec. I bought it on 16th Dec. Its run 660km so far. I didnt take it past 4000 rpm until after 500 km.

I always pump the kicker with ignition off about 10 times before kick starting. I warm it up at 1000, going up by 500 rpm every 20 sec. Then i hold it at 2500 rpm for a minute and turn off choke. I let it idle for abt 15-20s before riding off. Havent exceeded 4000 rpm till 500 km. Then i took it to 4500. I'm currently getting 61 kmpl steady, under mixed city/ highway riding (18 km city + 17km highway daily + 5km for shopping runs.)

When i start the bike first thing in the morning, it always idles at 600-700 rpm, and dies when i give the choke before giving it a little twist. It wont start if i give the choke before starting. Why is it so?

Also about the wrist-ache, its because of the low handlebar. You tend to put more weight on the bar and that's why it hurts. Also the stock grips are hard plastic. CBZ/Ambition grips are far better. The new 150 has the same handle as the 180. So i too have this problem. The previous model 150s came with a higher handle, so it want such a big problem for them.

I bought my bike on 10th Dec. Its run around 660 kms, mostly in the city i.e. Bangalore having congestion problems on the route I have to take to my office. The mileage my bike is giving is not that much as you are getting. It may be as you riding it on highways too, whereas mine is an out to out city traffic. The mileage of my bike is increasing as the engine is clocking more kms. From the first to the third petrol fill, it has increased from 50 to around 54, Which I am sure will improve as the engine runs more. I am using Xtra Premium petrol. I never take my bike above 3700-3800 RPM in any gear. Will take it to 4000 RPM after the first service is done. My bike starts in the first kick in the morning without any need of the choke or throttle. Just a very light throttle is required. I warm up the engine for around 25-30 seconds by giving it gentle throttles in between.. nd then move on slowly.. One thing I wanted to ask, I am changing gears less frequently as I believe that ExhausTEC is for this purpose only, to allow me to change less gears and the engine also does not show any signs that I should change gears, It moves comfortably in higher gears too on low speeds. Is it OK..? Is this the reason I am getting less mileage..?

You are always welcome mate... Btw what mileage are you getting from your bike..? Don't worry even if its giving slightly low average. more fuel consumption by the engine's during their running-in is very common and is considered good in this period. Some people say it...

hey, that happened once on my old p180 (also had petrol lock),..exactly the same symptoms...
all my mechanic did was to take the diesel spray and cleaned out the lock and the pipes...worked like a charm after that...
                          hope that helps...

So... I got the delivery of my new blue p180 ug3 day before
                            100kms clocked....

have that happy feeling for the past 2 days...

I dont know if this is recommended or not, but i changed my engine oil after about 60-70kms, but the engine is running a whole lot smoother now with the oil change...

I feel a bit let down since the engine and gearbox isnt the smoothest ( i guess if i wanted that should ve opted for unicorn) , the bike makes a faint metallic sound once i get close to 4000rpm.
Also, manual says dont exceed 65kmph in first 1000kms, this guide says 60 and also mentions 4000rpm, I barely reach 55kmph in 5th gear @ 4000rpm. So I took the bike slowly to 4500rpm (only in 4th n 5th gear) for 5-10 seconds and then came back to 3000rpm levels. Its a marked difference... the feel of the engine between 4k-4.5k rpm, the engine runs a lot harsher.
                            Anyone else noticed this?

Otherwise, I have been using all the gears and rev ranges (2k-4k).

So if someone can give me more tips about handling the 4k-4.5k rpm range, would be useful, danke...

i think it's normal on Pulsar, because with its multispark ignition, in some rev range AFR will close to 14:1 & do some noise, by its 2nd spark... So in the 1st spark, petrol & air must burnt completely before the 2nd..
