I would recommend that not to cross speed limit of 60 kmph till first 1500 kms.... also use engine additive after every 10000kms running. Engine additive is to be mixed with engine oil. It willl surely boost ur bikes performance.

^ its rpms not kmphs. 4000 is the margin. and he is doing right by fluctuating rev range. and some rare high revs are also needed for the engine to open up. and doing it for 1k kms is enough.

@mailmardi: which oil did you change to? that makes a lot of difference. eg, if you use synthetics, the oil would slim down and metalic sound becomes common in higher rev.

thx guys wonderfull write up! very usefull for beginers
        ....

i have one question..i just bought p180 dtsi ug3 and 300k clocked on the odo.....
as this guide says don't exceed 60 for 1st 1000km but in manual its is 65..
well i parcticed that till 250km on the odo..but one day..empty broad road lured me .....and another rider was racing with me....which added fire to petrol......then i raised my throttle...n i found that itz 80km/h on the speedo....so i removed my hands on the throttle...then it cames to a halt....then it took rest for 2-3 min then i again started.....WTA JACKASS!!

i wanna know if it causes any problem.....

            100kms clocked....

have that happy feeling for the past 2 days...

I dont know if this is recommended or not, but i changed my engine oil after about 60-70kms, but the engine is running a whole lot smoother now with the oil change...

I feel a bit let down since the engine and gearbox isnt the smoothest ( i guess if i wanted that should ve opted for unicorn) , the bike makes a faint metallic sound once i get close to 4000rpm.
Also, manual says dont exceed 65kmph in first 1000kms, this guide says 60 and also mentions 4000rpm, I barely reach 55kmph in 5th gear @ 4000rpm. So I took the bike slowly to 4500rpm (only in 4th n 5th gear) for 5-10 seconds and then came back to 3000rpm levels. Its a marked difference... the feel of the engine between 4k-4.5k rpm, the engine runs a lot harsher.
            Anyone else noticed this?

Otherwise, I have been using all the gears and rev ranges (2k-4k).

So if someone can give me more tips about handling the 4k-4.5k rpm range, would be useful, danke...
Dont worry that tinny noise ll disappear once u finish 3k+ kms on ur odo. The mechs call it scisorring noise. Make sure that u change oil atleast every 2k kms.

Hey Guys anyone read that article....

              What to say about it......?

Is it really advisable to break-in in that method...?

As you will read you will find that it not only explains why but also proves it...

this sat i got my p220 dtsi delivered.have done about 630kms till now.got a couple of queries.im takin it for its first servicing tmrw morning.

i ride down to coll every mornin. Its about 25kms n i cant keep changin speeds.i mean i ride at 60 for 5 mins then i go upto 65 then get back 50 or 55.Is it ok ?

Also after a trip wen i stop my bike i hear a faint tick tick sound from my silencer ill tell the bajaj guys tomorrow n there is another faint noise from the front portion when i ride.

i usually increase the speed gradually but also take every gear from 0-4k rpm now n then once i have done about 5 mins of riding.all cool ?

your speeds are ok, but more importantly you should only be doin those speeds in higher gears. basically, for at least the first 1000kms, its a damn good idea to keep to this side of 4000rpm.

the tick-tick from the exhaust is harmless-its due to oil flowing in the oil lines, or maybe due to the cat-con cooling off or something(ask some seniors)

                          a query

Does lesser use of clutch help increase mileage n does clutchless upshifts afeect the clutchplates?
