@Rylan : I am not sure if i missed it in your post, but just a simple question.. are you running this on stock carb with larger size jets? or you have gone in for race carb from RC.?

After the ride, i spoke to Joel about the upgrades and over a period of one month I got the following installed:

          1. Free flow exhaust
          2. Simota air filter (conical)
          3. Big bore
          4. Head work
          5. High lift racing camshaft
          6. Racing clutch springs

          Free Flow Exhaust
No words can describe this piece of art. One thing kept in mind from its inception to the final production.

          1. 2. db killer has to be off to achieve the max gains. Simota air filter ( conical )Big bore ( 180cc kit)
It is a light semi forged piston made in Japan meeting the requirements specified by Joel himself. It is specially customized for the fz16. Though there is a bump in the compression ratio to around 10 (not sure of the exact figure), regular unleaded fuel can still be used with no problems at all. This piston is not available anywhere nor it is something that has been around since it is specially customized by Joel.

          Head work
This is done to increase the flow and efficiency of the fuel to the engine. The bike revs a lot more freely, it is recommended for those who opt for the big bore. One experiences a good throttle response throughout.

High lift racing Camshaft Racing clutch springs
This increases the feel while actuating the clutch, the clutch lever is a little bit firmer and gives you a positive feedback, I cant describe the feeling. One has to ride the bike to get an actual feeling once installed. The gear shifts have improved too.

I hope I have described the above upgrades to the best of my knowledge so that the members might get an idea as to what they might wanna go in for. None the less, Joel is the best man who can give you a complete heads up as to how each upgrade makes a diff.
There a slew of upgrades that I might go in for in the future, but for now am having a hell of a time on my BEAST

          RIDING EXPERIENCE

          1. The bike has a completely different characteristic. Calling it a beast now would be an understatement.
          2. The exhaust note is a lot more bassy.
          3. Power dlivery is linear and strong throughout the rev range.
          4. Once you cross 5k, the bike wants to break free of all shackles and redlines in no time at all. One might wonder if ur riding a short stroke bike.
          5.
          Reliability

          LOUD.

          Fuel efficiency

42kmpl. Post run in I started revving the bike gradually (am still not belting), I achieved a F.E figure of 44kmpl. The best I managed on a single run was 47kmpl37kmpl with my regular riding style while all I could max out was 28kmpl on stock bike.

          Top speed

          1. Post run in I drained all the mineral oil, replaced the oil filter and filled it with motul fs 15w50. Odometer: 800km, hit an empty stretch and slowly started riding to sweep for any interceptors and obstacles (happens only in India). Once the preliminary checks were done, I went flat out and hit a top wack of 120kmph.
          2. Odo reading: 997km
The same stretch, I go flat out and hit 124kmph.
          3. Odo reading: 1179
The same stretch again, flat out to hit 128kmph.

Thanks a lot Joel. God bless you.

          Cheers.

                      Hello Rylan ,

Congrats and Thanks for Sharing your mods ,
180cc mod looks very reliable ...

Just have a few questions as below : to learn more from you ....
                      1. How about the Carb , what was done on the Carb area to match with the modifications ?
                      Kindly advice .....
                      2. On the 180cc Bore , did you just Rebored the existing Liner to fit in the 63mm Piston?
The picture shows a very thin Steel Liner in the bore ......
I asked because some guys replace the Bore Liner and it looks thicker even at 66mm , then another question
will follow like which would be more reliable bore modification the one with Thin Steel Liner or with Thick Steel Liner ?

                      Thanks and best regards ,

                        Riding experience/ Reliability.

Post installation of the semi flat carb and the 50mm simota air filter
wheelied and WHOAmanner in which it gets there.
                        Word of caution

The carb pretty darn sensitive and works a little differently.
The cv carbs tend to adjust a bit. When there is changes in temperature and slight changes in altitude dont really affect the mixture. But the semi is very sensitive that ways, its purely meant for the streets and not for touring. Am sure Shiv and Joel can add useful info regarding this.

Ps:The pics of the carb dont do any justice. U gotta see that in flesh. I lost the pics i'd taken before the installation and that sucks. At certain angles the semi looks like a bugle, that was gorgeous.

This is for now, more to come in the near future. Ride safe folks and i'll be tuned at all times.
                        cheers

Nothing was done on the carb area, its a direct fit.

Regarding the technicality of the, Joel is ur man. Its not very clear to me, nor have i bothered to ask

Nice work on getting the better carb. I've got a Keihin semi flat 33mm and it is very touchy. Loves opening the throttle to WOT, hates being just cracked 1/8 throttle when I'm stuck in traffic.
There shouldn't be any issue getting the filter wet, Unless you tip a bucket of water on it or submerge it. If it gets wet you can leave it on the bike and let the engine suck the air through the filter effectively drying it out. Same as when you go to clean it, Though I use the cleaning kit's solvent so it dries quicker than water.

@ rylan: just a clarification; a more sensitive carb is not necessarily a better/ superior carb. All things being equal, a CV offers far superior fuel metering vs. a round/ flat/ semi flat slide carb.
Only a biker knows why a dog sticks his head out of a car window.

I completely agree with u buddy. My bad, if my update meant otherwise. What i meant is It's sensitive to any changes in temperature around, and many other factors which might be beyond my understanding 😊. All in all I didn't mean to say that it is superior just coz it's sensitive. But in my case, I'd like to think that way

I think that can be open to your personal interpretation, Also what type of conditions it will be used for.
If you had a option of using a CV, Round, Semi flat and Flat slides on a track, What one would be superior Vs the rest?
Same question but in bumper to bumper traffic?
                                Touring, highway speeds?

My old stock carb was CV. The response from a CV to a round to semi flat are very noticable. Though the CV is more forgiving I guess you can say I wouldn't go back to one.
Flats are designed to be constantly opening and closing, Not a steady cruising throttle position. A quick flick of the wrist and you have flooded and stalled your engine, CV you can do the same and not stall/flood.

Best to describe it as each has their strengths and weaknesses, Some people prefer the instant light switch type of response, whereas others prefer a more gentle response.
