Re: Cruising speed for every motorcycle and scooter

You're brave to do that. Ideally, one should cruise around the max torque range so that you have some steam left to overtake vehicles. For SZ R, it'd be around 5-6k where it makes peak torque.

But ofcoz, chasing peak power and peak torque would also mean peak stresses, heat & wear-tear. So, it's ideal to keep it below those limits for long-term durability & reliability.

How much do you shave off of the engine life span in a scenario like this do you think? Is it a considerable amount of time?

Re: Cruising speed for every motorcycle and scooter

For my Duke 390, it is around 130-140 kmph, but honestly I never find myself able to cruise at this speed, due to busy traffic on highways, and people's driving manners.
For me, its more like 80-90 kmph in the top gear, 4500 rpm, and this also returns the maximum fuel mileage I ever got, which is around 43 kmpl.
Top end is about 172 kmph, which I've seen on BIC, Noida.

Although, its terribly hard to quote a practical cruisability percentage that will work for all vehicles...
For example, Hayabusa will gladly cruise at 90 kmph in top gear, which is 30% of its top speed. On Duke 390, the same is safely doable only in 4th gear, not beyond it.

Plus, other factors like vibrations at rev ranges, max torque, etc. also determine the cruiseability-factor.

AFAIK cruising on a bike can be done by keeping the rpms where the peak torque is generated where one could enjoy a relaxed ride. ...

This makes more sense.
Can riders also list their motorcycle speed(GPS) maxTorque RPM along with bike's make & model?

Of course, wear & tear depends on engine/gearbox design & components quality; etc
