  • Budget Tourer Discussion (under 1.5L)

Hello everyone,Hope you all are doing great!

I have always been a fan of Naked Sports like the Pulsars and Apaches but at the same time,Loved Budget Tourers like the Avenger 220.Also now the Dominar 400 which is simply an amazing bike that renders the entire Royal Enfield Product line-up irrelevant (Sadly,REs still sell a lot more, but let's keep that aside).

    I was thinking -
We have the Avenger Twins and Intruder We have the GiXXeR SF,Pulsar 220F,200NS and RS.etc,Apache RTR 200 ABS -All of them doing great work in touring.
Above all of these,We have the Dominar 400 ABS which I think is the best bike one can get under 2L.

The Avenger and Intruder are very comfortable for touring,More than the Apache and Pulsars. But the Apache and Pulsars (except for the 220F) all come with better and newer Technologies which improve the reliability, refinement and safety aspect - I feel like there is an imbalance here. What if consumers want both Cruiser style + new tech from the modern Pulsars and Apache ?

Do you also think this is what TVS is aiming with their first cruiser - The Zepplin Concept ? Would this also be what Mahindra is aiming to do with the return of JAWA ?

For solving this imbalance - I feel that a bike with a 200/220/250cc Single Cylinder SOHC Carburetted/Optional Fi Engine (with a Balancer Shaft,Bassy exhaust note) paired to a 6 Speed Gearbox with Slipper Clutch,A 16-20 Litre Fuel Tank,Digital Console with features like Time,Engine Temperature,Fuel Efficiency Indicator + DTE,Dual Tripmeters.etc,Safety aspects include Single Channel ABS Standard (Dual Channel Optional),Tubeless Tyres.etc.
Most importantly,Price it just above the Apache RTR 200 with on-road coming up at 1.25L for the Base Carb+SC-ABS and upto 1.40L for the Top-end Fi DC-ABS

I think this bike can cruise comfortably at 100+kmhr and hugely undercut the Dominar.Maybe this is what TVS is going to do with the Zeppelin.

Also quite sad about the Hero's amazing HX250R.I guess the project has been shelved. They didn't see the Dominar coming. It was one gorgeous bike and would have sold like hot cakes if priced under 1.5L but the Technology it had, just wouldn't allow the price to be that low.

Thanks for the read and please do suggest and share your opinion too.Always happy to learn

Give a thought on FZ25 or the Fazer 25!

Comes with FI and LED headlights! Apart from that, the bike is beautiful in its own way! It is also reliable and buttery smooth!! Good for highways as well as city rides! Sounds good and! Yes, yamaha

Yes,Good choice! But the FZ25 looks very Plain and the Fazer25 is very ugly to me (Looks are subjective).Very reliable, yes, Great build quality.Sadly lacks 6th gear,Slipper Clutch,ABS and isnt as comfortable or 'touring-focussed' like the Avenger.I wouldn't also say 'butter-smooth' because riding the FZ25,I felt good amount of vibrations above 6000RPM,sure,it's not something that makes you uncomfortable but the competition offers better. Also the engine felt strained at higher RPMs,I guess it attributes to Yamaha giving it a calm and relaxed state of tune.

I'm not falling for that 'Yes Yamaha!' - The performance, features and other factors of the actual Product matter to me more than the brand itself. There are segments where Indian bikes are better than the Japanese ones (Current 150-160cc segment)

Looks like you have never toured in your entire life! I guess the RTR 200 is the bike that you would recommend!

I have ridden the Fazer25 extensively and have gone on some long rides! So, i know what i am taking about!

Regarding looks, to me both the bikes look better than the RTR200! Looks are subjective are and this is my opinion!

Regarding bike feels strained at higher rpms! Yes, because it isnt both city and occasional highway touring! The competition is always better my dear friend! The bike can run at 120 kmph all day long. Lacks 6th gear and that is the only concern to me. Which bike doesnt vibrate? I guess the RTR200 is the only perfect bike in the world!

No,I haven't toured with the FZ25.It was owned by a friend of mine who gave it to me to take for a spin.I definitely enjoyed riding it.Also no,I would recommend the RTR200 Carb+ABS for touring because it is the only bike in the segment with Dual Channel ABS + Slipper Clutch which can be a life saver out on the highways as the bike does over 90kmhr.Also 120kmhr on an FZ25,Definitely needs the engine to do 8000+RPM which is little too much, from that engine. It is tuned to be more relaxed. The RTR's and the NS's engine feels more lively. Both of them had that 'Fun' factor which I felt the FZ25 to be a little more calm. The RTR also has the upper hand when it comes to NVH Levels. Also didn't say that the RTR200 is the most perfect.

That FZ25's engine + a new 6 speed gearbox with ABS would be awesome.Perfect icing on the cake!

            Different tastes and riding styles

It already exists. Its called the Mahindra Mojo.

And TVS isnt doing shit with the Zeplin. There simply isnt enough market for a cruiser.
The low end is taken by the Intruder, Mid-end by Enfields, hid-high end by the UM motorcycles, and Harley Street 750s and Vulcan 650s are pretty much within a serious enthusiasts reach, with rising salaries, and easily affordable loans.

My title clearly says under 1.5L.The Mojo is priced a lot higher than 1.5L.The Intruder 155 isn't selling all that well here (thank god I don't get to see that horrendous looking bike often) and there is quite a big gap there (From 1L-1.5L) which is what I wanted to get opinions from people here.

Yes,But The Mojo XT300 is over 1.5L and the UT300 also over 1.5L for on-road price. The UT300,I have never seen a single one yet. Both are not selling well at all. They are squarely inside the Classic 350 Territory - I believe most people who are in that segment of Market, are not really looking for an 'alternative' there - Because 'Hey,It's a Bullet' mindshare. Also if they are looking for a better alternative,The Bajaj Dominar 400ABS is better than the Mojo and vastly better than the entire RE Lineup = Probably why the Mojo isn't doing very well in sales.Very hard to compete in such markets. This is what I have also said in the JAWA-Relaunch Thread. They are about to go head-on with a product whose mindshare is bigger than the brand itself and even the brand loyality from people is very very strong.

Yes,I am 19 years Old now.Got my License last year as soon as my 18th Birthday.I ride my father's 2009 Royal Enfield Thunderbird 350 TwinSpark
Not in the best condition - Engine has a head leak (I suspect Valve seal gone kaput),Exhaust has a whistling sound when revving,Tacho and Fuel Gauge doesn't work.etc.The bike runs well and I am not very confident of getting it to a Mechanic just yet as since it's a 'Royal Enfield',They very well know how to loot my purse[emoji23] I am earning a little now,Good enough for 2 full tanks of petrol and some evening snacks at college per month.Once I earn more,I can work on the bike

                      Honestly speaking, I disagree.
As a tourer, I'd prefer the Mojo over the Dominar anyday.
                      More relaxed ergos.
                      Bigger fuel tank 21 Litres x 30kmpl = 600 km approx vs 13 litres x 25 kmpl = 325 km approx

Really appreciate this sentiment. Pretty rare in today's self-entitled generation.

Yes,I agree that the Mojo has a better and relaxed ergonomics. Also the much Bigger fuel tank is Perfect.I also like the exhaust note of the bike and the bike looks better than the Dominar too.

The Dominar needs atleast a 16 litre fuel tank. Also it does more than 35kmpl out on the highways.I believe it can do 100kmhr on 6th gear with the engine at ~6500RPM (Not tested myself,I am not sure). There is this awesome channel named 'The Sportztourer' - He owns an RTR 200 and he did some touring along with the Dominar 400.He uploaded videos about the Dominar - it's efficiency and a small review about the overall bike.Really nice channel,Do check it out!

Rtr 200 is the most attractive motorcycle in 200cc segment. Dont be a blind follower of yamaha. Also it has 4 valves than your yamaha [emoji53]
