I stopped immediately and luckily no one got hurt but the boy's mom who came after the boy slapped her son for running in the roads and then she also shouted and complained to the near by people that "these freaks (we bikers) should not be allowed to ride on normal roads and our license should be ceased since we possess threat to their children's life" she also shouted at me when I took off saying " go get yourself a hired race track, this is not race track.." although I went very slowly and always expect such things to happen while driving through a street and be very cautious.. still we are blamed pointlessly just because we gear up when we ride.. :-(

wow guys this thread is an eye opener.
till date i only used to wear a decent full face ninja helmet ..... but after going thru this thread and recently helping a guy search for his missing digits on the road in a RTA sent shivers down my spine and i am thinking of buying at least a pair of gloves before i go for an upgrade from my P135 ls.
though i will look around for proper gloves still if anyone can give me a heads up on where can i get decent gloves in delhi....... my online search right now gave me gloves which are about Rs.500 - Rs.800. are they any good ??
i can shell out upto 5k for proper riding gloves if they are sturdy and durable.
needless to say i would hate to be that guy..........
about the thread i always have envied riders in full gear but thought that probiking stuff can wait till i upgrade to a ninja, not anymore.

I still remember the way my mother's face went when I asked her whether she can give me some cash to buy a riding gloves..... and the first thing that came from her mouth is "are you going for any bike races???" these kind of questions comes due to Sure ignorance and my mom them thought that helmet was just a means to escape from the cops,..!!but then I decided to educate my mom on the importance of these safety measures and now my mom calls out from the kitchen when ever I go out "nandhu... did you take your helmet??"

When I had Yamaha RX100 (2 years back), I always wear helmet when I am riding.
& till date I have noticed only 4 to 5 RX100 riders (including me), who were wearing helmet. So this kind of staring,
I have noticed so many times.

They stare because riding gear for any driving any vehicle as such except probably military aircraft is alien in India. I would have stared if I didn't know much about motorcycles or safety.
Plain ignorance, little unwanted attention but no big deal.

Cops too are very ignorant, I was riding pillion with my friend and we were stopped for wearing helmets, according to that nutcase cop only the rider wears a helmet, if the rider and pillion wear helmets, it means they are upto some mischief

Not just the aam junta, cops in ECR (Chennai-Pondy road) fine you for wearing riding gear (and racing )

racer thing and hyper young kids with big bikes.. This is normal for every geared rider..
nothing can be done in this regard..
From not long, govt has made helmets to be worn by law and this forces the bikers to wear them.. Like-wise, other gears should also be made a as important as helmets..
only then when more people are saved in accidents, the society would start accepting propre riding gear..

If you wear riding gear, YOU ARE A RACER! Nothing else, you're a menace to the society, young kids would see you and start racing on the streets. Couple this with your Dhoom bike, you MUST be jailed for doing this lunacy on the road!!!

Guys try riding with an equally kitted pillion and touring luggage. The owner of a dhaba would not belive that I had come from Ambala. I guess we Indians believe that we are indestructible or maybe we are fatalists. Expecting riders to accept riding gears is a long way off where people find seat belts and helmets to be unnecessary and helmets at considered best adorned stuck to the elbow and not on the bqd
