BLAH : re-edited was a bit too rude.

RVM's are essential because I don't want to have a pic of a truck kissing my buttocks in the newspaper next day.

Example ; You can't hear volvo rear engined buses until they go PAST you so many times i see this huge thing becoming bigger and then goes whoosh past me by inches! The air drag from the bus will tend to upset the bike and the speeds these volvos do is crazy !

I can cite numerous examples where your hearing or sixth sense wont be worth a pence. RVM's are there for a reason. People who added them to cars didn't have a thing for reflecting light off planes for joy.

Honestly some of the arguments here are as good as I've heard from people in Ahmedbad who say that helmet is bad for health as it puts stress on the spinal cord and causes headache. RIGHT !

@Xenologik: properly said dude there are times when I jumped out of my skin when they sped past me without any indication suddenly.
However, I always use RVMs, sometimes while riding real cool I just forget to check them!

I have in my 40 years of being on the road, experienced many a MORON cutting across from the left lane into the right most without ever looking once into the rear view mirror . RVMs for them,is to look at their great beautiful selves. These narcissists will never change, and will be a perennial threat to others on the road..Like I said before ,if the RVMs of a biker are inclined inwards, I avoid overtaking him or use the horn a bit more when overtaking him.

I cant understand how anyone can change lanes without RVMs... Irrespective of fast moving or slow moving traffic... I believe that while riding, one needs to have a sense not only of the Traffic in front, but also the ones behind...

@ppl who can ride without RVMs, Try riding with one for a few months... Then try riding without it... You will see what U ve been missing... If you dont miss anything, then am sorry, but you are a terrible rider...

I can only say "Bandar kya jaane adrak ka swaad"

I believe people who respect the traffic rules/safety and have concern for others on the road will definetly use the RVMs.

Well, here is a culprit! I used to ride my Zma without RVMs a few years ago - till I got stopped by the cops in Mumbai for not having the same. I immediately installed them and viola - suddenly found out what a dolt I was for not having them in the first place as my road awareness and riding confidence went up several notches.

And, yes, there is a law which states that RVMs are compulsory.

i am always aware of such guys, and always keep distance or give horn when behind them.
Hey guys can u believe, once i met a guy who actually thought that these mirrors for us to watch our own face.(like the one in our dressing room)

Other creative use of RVM include
You can look at a girl standing behind u at traffic signals
IF a girl has RVM on her moped, it will be always be pointing on her face
(I hope everyone got the point :P)

The second quote is just what hit my mind immediately after reading the first quote

And, I even miss the RVMs while walking as I have a habbit (good or bad) of not turning my head towards the chicks walking sideways as a sign of some attitude and then check them out in my RVMs (after being sure that in the mean time I don't get in trouble due to that).

On a serious note, I am so habitual to the RVMs that I even miss them while walking (a part of which is already mentioned ). They are just like an extra pair of eyes to you. IMO, everyone should use them and its not a bad idea to have a rule of getting challaned for not having RVMs on one's vehicle.

To me, RVMs are a sign of sensibility or stupidity - if you have it well aligned (coming right behind u, can i see your face?), kudos to you. Else I brake/switch lanes. Ditto for car/motorcylists. Psychics are the only unique people who can manage without them.

Heck, I even got a phoren RVM for my cycle!!

It can surely serve, atleast, the purpose mentioned by me in my previous post

                        Side mirror Locking

Is there a way to "Lock" the side mirrors in the attachment socket so that someone does not try to steal it without the correct tool or without being able to access a nut or something concealed on the underside?

Before finding out any jugad to lock RVM I would like you to think why we have to rotate them anticlockwise to tight them where as every other nut or screw has be to be rotated clockwise to tight them
